We have stayed here before and found the location to be very good. The rooms, albeit a bit shabby, are comfortable. Bathrooms are also a bit shabby. We could walk this area safely quite late and there is a Whole Foods just down the street which made taking care of family easier. We could walk this area safely quite late and there is a Whole Foods just down the street which made taking care of family easier. As Westin timeshare owners we used to have breakfast included. Marriott merger has now downgraded owners to gold status. This meant the kids could no longer get breakfast as they were accustomed to. They did enjoy being across the park, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Read less

Probably the best part is the concierge lounge (yes, I'm Platinum). I've never seen a better selection of food and drinks. The location cannot be beat - right across the street from Central Park. The only down side is the resort fee - didn't get much in return for it. Read less

For our first visit to New York, we spent half our time at the Essex House and the other half at another Marriott property. Beautiful lobby, room was gorgeous (used Suite Night Reward upgrade), wonderful location! I was definitely impressed with the concierge, very kind and helpful!! Just because we love our JW, I’m a little critical—plus the price, you’d think it would check the boxes. My little negatives would be for the price, the room has some issues—peeling wallpaper, only 2 working elevators for 40 (estimate?) floors of rooms. The biggest let down was the executive lounge. Other reviews said is the nicest they’ve seen, not at all. Maybe I’ve just been spoiled at the places we’ve visited (Nashville, Sydney—much better). I understand food and snacks can’t be out all day, but there was food and trash all over the lounge-each time we visited with the staff just standing around leaning against the walls. Not good at all. We just have higher expectations than this. Overall, I would recommend this property and would consider staying again but didn’t live up to our traditional JW expectations. Thank you for helping make our first visit to NY memorable! Read less
