My husband and I have always been a fan of JW Marriott (it all started when we had our honeymoon at JW Marriott Khao Lak). Since then, whenever we have the opportunity to book at a JW Marriott hotel in our destination, we lock it in! Let me start off with the splendid art deco ambience of JW Marriott Essex. Its pristine atmosphere is awe inspiring. New York is the epitome of hustle and bustle and in the conclusion of your day, you would want to shut down and rest with utmost comfort which you will at JWME. They havr plush beddings, spotless clean room and a marble bathroom with a shower that has the perfect water pressure. The view of central park is one of the amazing selling point of JWME. It is very relaxing just to stare at the views in the morning and ponder while watching the city lights at night. The location and the vicinity is another selling point, the hotel is a few blind steps from Central Park, around 15 minutes walk from Times Square and Rockefeller Centre. Thefood at Southgate is scrumptious that offers a variety of choices. They got the best wedge salad and the central park mule (cocktail) is a must try. The customer service is beyond fantastic! This is the main reason why we love JW Marriott, their staff are well trained especially with interpersonal communication skills, efficiency and hospitality. They are simply the best! Thanks Greg and the team ❤️ Read less

Iconic uptown experience at Essex House! Couldn’t get over the swanky, historic vibes with unbeatable views. Clean, comfortable, and responsive hospitality. During our stay, some of the rooms had scaffolding blocking the windows, but we requested a change of rooms and we were accommodated. Glad they are taking care of such a landmark!

We spent two nights here for a quick stay. We were a group of mom friends with daughters doing a little holiday trip. We chose this hotel based on location ( wanted something uptown & slightly quieter than the. Plaza or Ritz) and the price point was great. I did see the hotel was under renovation & it appears to be minimal. The hotel is a classic beautiful well kept space. The curbside luggage handling was fast, the front desk was friendly & able to accommodate our request of side by side rooms. We found the rooms clean & well kept. Relatively modern. The one improvement that can be made is the bathroom. The Tub didn’t hold water very well and the shower head did leak a bit while the kids were bathing. Otherwise we had no troubles. Housekeeping was thorough, but no turn down service. Room service ( dinner) was quick and pretty good. Avoid the soup.. but everything else we tried was good for what we needed for a quick meal the first night. Front door service can be improved. There were many times we were trying to enter or exit with strollers and couldn’t find anyone to assist, or if they were there we had to prompt to help. Street & hallway noise are to be expected a bit in NYC, and were prevalent but the white noise on my phone did cancel out most of it. The location is great if you’re looking to do uptown activities, dining or shopping. A really competitive nightly rate for the location for sure. We would stay again if we’re in town. Read less

What a shame... A bit of a disappointment. It seems that THE Essex House has changed from a Hotel to a Motel. Too bad. A big loss for all of us that have always loved the QUINTESSENTIAL experience of an old-world "grand dame" hotel stay. With the excuse that the lobby and restaurant are being renovated breakfast is served now in either the ball room foyer or an upstairs meeting room. One is bad. The other is worse! No ambience; poor food quality; and offered with as much enthusiasm as a bottle of great champagne that lost all its bubbles. The lobby is no more. A few chairs scattered around and a settee or pair of chairs in the center hallway is all there is. Seeing guests sitting on the floor or steps to ancillary spaces just seems wrong. The idea of the bell staff handling bags discreetly through a service entrance and staff elevator has gone away... the entry hall (can't even call it a lobby) and the guest elevators are now as elegant as the baggage claim carrousel at the airport. And finally the room... a low floor park view king... nothing like the pictures on the website. Ridiculously small (room 814) with just ONE window, was just enough for me to know it's NOT the place I would want to stay NOR one I would ever recommend to others. Read less
