We stayed at the Essex House for our trip and it was a very nice hotel. It was beautiful on the inside and outside and had multiple floors for rooms. We had a suite and it was a bit smaller than most of the Marriott suites are but was still large enough for my family.

Essex House is a great location but underwhelming for what you pay for which is a lot! I have stayed at a few JW Marriott's and this property doesn't live up to the standard. From an Executive Lounge with ridiculously limited hours and options to standard at best housekeeping/amenities it was a disappointing experience. As Bonvoy Platinum member I… Read more

From an Executive Lounge with ridiculously limited hours and options to standard at best housekeeping/amenities it was a disappointing experience. As Bonvoy Platinum member I requested to use a couple of my free upgrade nights booking over two months in advance only to find out less than 24 before checking in they wouldn't honor my request I couldn't even get a room with a park view again very disappointing. If I known earlier my request wouldn't be honored I could have booked at another property. My recommendation is either spend a few extra bucks and stay at the Ritz down the street (which I will) or pick a less expensive hotel you'll get the same product. Read less

The JW Marriott Essex House New York Hotel has been classified as a New York Historical Hotel since 1931. They must be doing something right. So my wife and I decided to spend the last days of our visit to New York City at the 160 Central Park South address, across from Central Park, in Midtown Manhattan, minutes from 5th Avenue, Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle. It features elegant rooms and suites, a spa, Art Deco-inspired decor, views of Central Park and a new restaurant, Bourbon Steak New York, a creation of noted chef Michael Mina. The hotel features a fitness center, concierge, gift shop, lounge, laundry room, dry cleaning, currency exchange, ATM bank, complimentary transportation and a multi-lingual staff. We booked an Essex Room King with a king-size bed, marble bathroom, high speed wi-fi, mini-bar, work desk, hair dyers, deluxe bedding, room service, TV, iron/ironing board, microwave, safe, internet access, refrigerator, safe and free newspaper. You can't ask for more, except two tickets to a Yankees game. Read less

A long overdue review. Last May, my daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at the JW Marriott Essex House last May for her birthday in NYC. I can truly say that every single person on staff that we had encountered was friendly and welcoming: front desk, lunge staff, maintenance, housekeeping, doormen…everyone! Upon check in, Felix greeted us, acknowledged my level and was able to upgrade us to a park view. We arrived very early, so understandably, rooms were not quite ready. But he did direct us to the newly renovated lounge that was still open for breakfast so that we could recharge before heading out into the city. Our room was bright, clean and offered a nice view of the park and street below. I noticed some previous comments about the hotel needing updates. But I didn’t feel that vibe at all from the spaces that I’ve seen and been to within the hotel. Yes, it is older and iconic. So to compare it to some of the newly built properties doesn’t make sense. I found all the spaces to be classically decorated with modern amenities. There is a resort fee attached to the rate, but the benefits that comes with it, more than makes up for it, so be sure to take advantage of it. Visit the concierge desk to get tickets to MoMA, Central Park Zoo, rent a bike, or take a yoga class. Carol at concierge was very happy to book our included experiences and also offered some very good advice when it came to exploring NYC. The resort fee also includes food credit that can be used at the onsite restaurant or room service. I want to give special recognition to the Bonvoy Elite Lounge staff. From the first day that we arrived, we were made to feel like family. We could tell that they are very proud of the newly renovated space. It sounds like an exaggeration, but when you are recognized and greeted each day, asked about our stay, asked if there was anything they could take care of (aside from just lounge area), and with the pride and enthusiasm they displayed, we truly felt at home. Alicia, Anna and Roseanna always had a bright smile. Julette, Robert and Dee made sure our time at lounge exceeded our expectations. I certainly can confirm, that they all went above and beyond to make this trip a truly memorable one. My daughter and I were sad to leave after our 3 day stay. But I will be sure to return back to the Essex House for our future NYC stays. Read less

We had a lovely, quiet room on the 24th floor which was a good size and comfortable. The breakfast in the new concierge's lounge was wonderful. Robert in the concierge lounge was great. He was friendly and helpful. When we checked in, Alicia at the front desk asked us why we were in NYC and we mentioned the wedding and my wife's birthday. The next day there were two incredible pieces of cake delivered to our room to celebrate my wife's birthday. What a lovely touch! I highly recommend this hotel. Staff is wonderful. Read less
