Things are limited with Covid-19 so the lounge for elite members doesn’t offer a real breakfast.I think more could be done here perhaps to offer delivered eggs or something upon request... However, overall would come back here with my family again. Having lived in New York it was great being back as a tourist and staying here. Thanks Essex House! Read less

My husband and I are New Yorkers (well, we moved abroad in 2018 but we were raised there) and we could not recommend this hotel enough to anyone in need of a short or long stay in the city. During the pandemic, we have stayed at the Bryant Park Hotel, Aloft, Hilton Millennium, and JW Marriott Essex House is hands down the most comfortable, safe and beautiful place to stay. Not only is it perfectly located on Central Park South so you can get all the exercise and fresh air you need every day, but you are also a block or 2 from Columbus Circle where all the shops are open and the best Whole Foods I’ve ever been to is located downstairs. We were able to get groceries for our son any time because WF is open early and closes late. If the endless cold and hot selection at WF is not enough for you, we were able to order anything we craved from DoorDash and UberEats AND the hotel staff would bring our orders to our room. Housekeeping was available every day until 2:30pm but we didn’t bother because our suite was provided with enough amenities and towels from the first day. I have Marriott status so we were upgraded to a junior suite from the King room I had booked and we were given a beautiful room (no view, but a girl can’t get everything she wants in Manhattan all the time) but we needed a bathtub for our baby and the room was huge but we needed to work so some division of space was preferable while our baby napped and played during the day. The staff was incredibly responsive and moved us to another suite immediately. Although the restaurant and other facilities was closed, there was always someone at reception and a bellman/security at the front doors to help in whatever way they could. The hotel has a very convenient back entrance on 58th Street as well. Tons of COVID testing sites are around the hotel which was appreciated since we needed to get PCR and rapid tests to return to Europe, and the hotel staff printed out all our necessary documents we may need for our flight. The manager also approved a late checkout for us since our departing flight was at 8pm from JFK and so we were able to have our baby nap in our room and have sufficient time to pack up and tidy up before calling a Lyft. Drop off and pick up is also very convenient at this location because Centra Park South has so many lanes unlike most other NYC blocks. We benefited from very mild weather so we meandered through Central Park to feed the ducks, watch ice skaters and even walked up to the Museum of Natural History on 80th St which was open to the public by reservation. For the more touristy people, Rockefeller Center and Time Square are a short walk away. The Apple Store is a block away as is the Plaza where I used to enjoy a fancy afternoon tea. Lincoln Center is also very close but closed because of COVID and for renovations. Our room provided a much needed respite and was very quiet and came with 2 big TVs so we were able to play YouTube kids videos on one while I watched HBO on the other! Lavazza coffee, bottled water, fresh fruit and other snacks like KIND bars were provided every morning until 11am and was much appreciated for us jetlagged travelers! The hotel is gorgeous and incredibly clean and well kept so we enjoyed our stay thoroughly. We have stayed at the JW Marriott in Hong Kong so it was nice to see some familiarity/consistency like in the Aromatherapy bathroom products. On our second day, the hotel staff gave our baby a puzzle and little stuffed animals which he absolutely loved, so thank you again! I would recommend booking this hotel before prices go up again once borders open up and tourists flood back into NYC! Read less

Spent four days in NYC. Decided to spend one night at the JW Marriott and then extend if I liked it. After one day I was already packing my bags. I have spent 30-40 nights / year in Marriott hotels (Platinium status) over the last 5 years and this was the worst experience I had. I have spent 30-40 nights / year in Marriott hotels (Platinium status) over the last 5 years and this was the worst experience I had. Cons * Very understaffed and it feels like 10% of the staff is doing 90% of the work. * Unpleasant room service on the phone * At 12:15pm, someone was banging on my door aggressively to ask me to check out * Pricey rate ~ 450$/night esp. during covid * Got a super noisy room next to the outdoor ventilation/heating(?) system with no view * Rooms are quite small Pros * Location * The lobby is beautiful If you are looking for a premium experience next to Central Park, the Ritz Carlton is amazing even though it is closed temporarily. I wanted to try the JW Marriott but that was a mistake. Read less

I continue to come back because the staff is helpful, friendly and approachable, the premises are impeccably clean and neat, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and they always recognize my lifetime Marriott platinum status with upgrades and offers. All of this is in addition to the most convenient location across from Central Park and 1 block from 5th Avenue. In a 15 minute stroll, I can get anywhere in Manhattan by turning a corner or two. This place has been a NYC staple for over 20 years and they’ve still got it! On this trip- I was upgrade from an Essex king to a Junior Suite (pics below). Read less

Pretty good hotel if you have the right opportunity/occasion to stay. Pro: beautiful hotel. feel of lux NYC apt, location is excellent for central park stroll, times sq (if you are into that), interior equally as lux con: outdated.. smart tv is really slow (never seen netflix lag this much), bathtub water was brown when you fully open the faucet. service: hard to put it into words but it felt oddly uncomfortable. the front desk was courteous, but I didn't quite like the way manager (?) was sitting by the corner monitoring. maybe it's covid precaution... also puzzled as to why gym is not on the top floor with central park view. Maybe that's newer trend. Read less
