We booked to go to NYC in December through virgin and was pleasantly suprised to see that the hotel had been renovated and renamed before our visit. We chose this hotel because of the location and the positive reviews We was not disappointed. Check in was a breeze and easy, we was allocated one of the lux rooms which was a nice touch. The room itself was a good size and there was built in storage for shopping and cases. The bathroom was also a good size and the shower was brilliant. The mini fridge and coffee machine were really nice touches too. The bed was super comfy. I always worry about hotel safes but these ones are brand new and seemed very secure. The location of this hotel is beyond amazing. Macy’s is a a couple mins walk away and there is a subway station night next to the hotel. Plenty of good restaurants and tourist attractions within walking distance. Andrews was the best place for breakfast as recommended by the Kixby staff. Also try the coffee cart outside the hotel, best coffee and doughnuts! This trip was especially special as i was planning to propose to my girlfriend, I decided somewhere private would be best on the hotels rooftop bar. The staff put my mind at ease and helped me plan this so we could have that special moment The staff really make this place. The reception staff are helpful. Would like to give special thanks to Christian, Kelvin and Leo for their recommendations. Would definitely rebook this hotel again, and this hotel will always have a special place in our hearts. Sorry we didn’t post the review sooner, hope you guys are all well. Read less

I stayed at the "Kixby" in early January this year and it was a fantastic experience. As this was my partners & I first time to New York City, we wanted to make sure we found the right hotel and we certainly did! As soon as we walked through the door we were warmly welcomed on what was a cold night! I had previously emailed asking that if possible we could have a higher room floor and we were certainly given one. Our bedroom was good. It wasn't one of the new refurbed ones but it had all that we needed. The shower room was lovely, bed comfy, condiments provided and the best part of the room was the view it gave us of the Empire State Building! We couldn't really ask for more. On arrival we were given a voucher/token to have a breakfast with the neighbouring restaurant to which the name has escaped my mind! Again the breakfast was perfectly fine. There was fresh fruit, cereal, croissants and more. You really don't need much as im sure youll be eating throughout the day! The rooftop bar wasn't open but you can still go up there and enjoy the fine views. When I say "fine" views I mean incredible views. You are so close to the Empire State Building you could almost touch it. Macy's is also right next to you which im sure youll go and check out! Location wise I also couldn't fault it! Far enough from Times Square that you weren't on top of it but close enough that the walk is incredibly short. Please take this review from someone who will read every review about a hotel before booking it. I really can't recommend the "Kixby" enough to anyone! Thank you for giving us a warm welcome and we certainly will be back one day! Christopher Y & Angel H Read less

Stayed here for a week in early March, just before NY shut down. Staff were fantastic, room lovely and room service delicious - especially the Impossible Burger. Huge thanks to the team at the Kixby for taking such good care of me at a very strange time

Stayed for a week early March for our wedding anniversary (a big one), booked our trip of a lifetime with Virgin last year when the hotel was still known as the Metro. This was probably the problem I had with our stay......the room with Virgin was classed as "premier" and at time of booking I would have expected our room to be as described on the virgin website, which is actually the hotel's old "classic" room. However from booking to arriving I had seen the transformation from Metro to Kixby and was hoping for a new room, even though these are classed as "Lux" by the hotel. On arrival I was disappointed to find we had been allocated a classic room, but equally delighted with the view of the Empire State Building, and the lovely fizz, card and chocolates. However, the downside to the view was the street noise, its a busy city so be aware of the level of noise you can hear. The room had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, but it was niggling about Virgin's room classification and I sent Virgin an email, as I don't believe, it was right to complain to the hotel. However when I spoke to reception they had received communication from Virgin and explained we had been given a bigger room, with the view. The next day they then offered us an upgrade to a new room free of charge (Soni must have been sick of me, but he didn't show it). We had a look at the room, and they are lovely, and made our classic look tired and shabby. If we hadn't already spent a few nights in our first room, and hadn't been so tired from sight seeing, I would have swapped, and thought this was a generous gesture. Which kind of sums the Kixby up, quite understated, relaxed, but underlying good customer service. The front of desk staff are reserved, but polite and willing to help, (extra coat hangers, sorted; broken blind fixed immediately; lost remote control, replaced straight away) you just have to ask. The guys on the door were excellent, really friendly and helpful. Cleanliness of the room was great at first, but did start to notice a slip by the end of the week, such as toiletries not replaced, cleanliness standard drop and the removal of the tv remote, but we put this down to staff levels at this testing time of Covid 19 as by the end of our stay, the city was bracing for lockdown and must have affected staff availability. It was really sad leaving and saying goodbye to the guys on the door, knowing the hotel was closing for the lockdown, The hotel has a great location for all the sights, and the subway is seconds away, with a few bars and restaurants close by. Lot15 was lovely, and staff in there are great, especially the girl who had lived in manchester ( sophie?). Once the hotel transforms totally into the Kixby and leaves the Metro behind, this would be 5 rated. Read less

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone based on our experience of a Lux room. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone based on our experience of a Lux room. We had booked a Classic King, but on arrival were randomly upgraded to a Lux King; so many thanks to the hotel for that. The room was as described by others and the only possible negative I can think of was the street noise that could be heard, but it wouldn't put me off going again. Reception staff were cheerful and efficient as too the doormen, who always struck up a conversation. I would also like to make a special mention of the understanding and approach taken by the hotel to remedy a misunderstanding that had occurred with our travelling companions' separate booking, whereby British Airways had sold the holiday using a previous room type name which isn't now used by the hotel. Because of this our companions had apparently booked an inferior room to that which they thought and on carefully listening to their "story" the hotel kindly upgraded them as well after the first night. Excellent service. The hotel is very well located, especially being close to the subway and in particular Penn Station as this was where we arrived into and departed from Manhattan via JFK. .
