Lotte New York Palace

Midtown, New York

Virgin rating

The hotel

Railroad magnate Henry Villard's 19th-century mansions were combined with a sleek tower to create one of the city's best hotels. It's a place where the staff greet you as if they have known you all their lives, and nothing is too much trouble. The location is one of the best in Manhattan, right in the middle of Midtown, but hidden away in a gated courtyard. There's dining options suited to all at the Lotte New York Palace, from luxury brunch to baked goods, whatever you opt for you'll be in for a treat. Enjoy handmade cocktails in one of Manhattan's most popular bars, Trouble's Trust, or relax in 19th century-style surroundings in Rarities - either make for the perfect post-day-in-the-city tipples.

The Lotte is a unique hotel and quite glorious during the holidays. The Christmas decorations are unparalleled... highlighting it's exquisite architecture. One is surrounded by beauty and elegance everywhere. To have breakfast in the dining room , or dinner in the gold room. Or to spend an hour in the Salon ,Rarities. There one is transported in time, sitting on a velvet sofa, admiring one of the old masters paintings while sipping on a rare aged whisky. The location is splendid; across the street is St Patrick's Cathedral and the window dressings of Saks Fifth Ave. [It's a short walk to Rockefeller Center or Central Park] But what sets the Lotte apart from other hotels is the staff; friendly , gracious and helpful, especially Rebecca Villasenor. It's pure joy to stay here! Read less

The location is great and the rooms are a nice size. The service was the most disappointing part was the service. Check-in was a nightmare. They had two people checking in 10 guests. Multiple people asked for a manager, but Ruth would not come out and help. The poor Bell Boys were just standing there doing their best to keep the guests calm,… Read more

Multiple people asked for a manager, but Ruth would not come out and help. The poor Bell Boys were just standing there doing their best to keep the guests calm, but honestly, it wasn't working. The other issue was that the coffee shop didn't open until 8am. That didn't make sense. When you're trying to get an early start or get to the airport early, it would have been nice to be able to get a cup of coffee first. Read less

The Lotte is the greatest hotel in NYC! We frequent the city each year. Ever since the Waldorf closed, I have been in search of another hotel with the class, charm and luxury equal to the Waldorf. Lotte is it! Rebecca was the most gracious and courteous employee I have encountered at a hotel. The attention and care she showed my family our entire stay was commendable. The hotel itself is like a dream. You enter and feel like you are in another world. The size of the rooms available are nowhere else in NYC! The amenities at this hotel are beyond what you will find elsewhere. As are the staff. From the bell service staff to housekeeping to the wonderful Rebecca, every part of our stay was beyond amazing. THANK YOU LOTTE!!!!!! Read less

Arriving at the Lotte in December is everything you’d hope for if you’d booked based on the website images. The decorations throughout the lobby like up to expectations. In addition, the rooms are surprisingly roomy by NYC standards and the location works very well. Views from the room (Cathedral view) were above average too. But there’s a lot to cause disappointment which seems to be reflected in other recent reviews. My own observations; - while large, the rooms are very sparse. Furniture is on a par with a bog standard Marriott - if you like the idea of the Gold Room, note it is smaller than it appears on the website (although just as well appointed) and they don’t take reservations. A fair few people on the waiting list are non-guests so you’re hanging around quite a bit to get a table. Other common areas similarly busy. - the lifts are a real problem. On some days only one of six seemed to be in action, big queues in the lobby, then lifts are fully occupied when you try to come down meaning I had to use the fire escape stairs on a few occasions. Not an option if you’ve limited mobility. While many hotels experience a morning and afternoon ‘rush hour’ I’ve never seen it cause problems like this. - Staff are a mixed bag. At best they’re indifferent, at worst they’re downright rude. Generally, it’s all a robotic, a bit like the copy/paste response I see the Manager has left by way of reply on all the poor reviews. Aside from the lobby, which anyone can visit (and they do - see other reviewer comments on Instagram influencers spoiling it for paying guests) there’s really nothing to justify the $1.200 per night for a regular room. Will try somewhere else next time. Read less

Had a great time at the Lotte to kick off the holiday season. We were welcomed by a friendly bellhop who gave us a tour of the common areas and was very kind and knowledgeable. The room was larger than expected and roll away for our teen was comfortable. The finishes are a little dated but still nice. The view from our room was amazing with the cathedral and other buildings. Easy to get most places we wanted to go on foot. Parking was exorbitant, but expected. The only major drawback was the elevators. They might be possessed. It would take upwards of 20 minutes to get an elevator and then you might go up instead of down. Our friends got stuck in one for an hour and they had to call the fire department. Major elevator maintenance/refurbishment is needed. Back on the positives, the courtyard and lobby were decorated beautifully for Christmas and the hotel had fun special things planned all weekend like a Santa visit and photos with 2 Rockettes. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Read less
