A friend recommended this hotel for our visit to NYC for my daughters birthday and I couldn’t be more pleased! The concierge reached out to me a few days ahead with dining, activity and entertainment options. When I mentioned we were visiting the big apple for daughters 15th bday he asked what kind of cupcakes she liked and on our first day had balloons and cupcakes delivered to our room with a personalized sign! Every request was accommodated post haste and with excellent customer service from extra lotions and waters, early check in, earplugs for a friend of ours whose child was sensitive to sound and more. Our housekeeper was delightful often engaging us in sweet conversation as we came and went. She always asked if we needed anything or if she could do anything for us. Every single person from the front desk, bellman, concierge, restaurant and bar staff all made her birthday trip exceptional! The room was spacious and we loved the New York touches (mirror, snow globe etc...) Pro trip - plan to eat at the restaurant (we liked doing breakfast) and look out the window at the hustle and bustle of Times Square! You can’t beat the location and the prices were reasonable for sure! We will be back and tell all of our friends! Read less

Once I got into my car after it was valeted for less than 12 hrs it was very clear to me that the car was taken for a joy ride. The passenger seat was in a lounge position with boot marks all over the dashboard. Coffee was spilled all over the console and the trip mileage was reset. Once I got into my car after it was valeted for less than 12 hrs it was very clear to me that the car was taken for a joy ride. The passenger seat was in a lounge position with boot marks all over the dashboard. Coffee was spilled all over the console and the trip mileage was reset. I also had a very expensive vase in the back seat which was shattered all over the floor. Needless to say I’m quite disappointed. You would think that spending the amount of $ you do for a room on a hotel room at at location with a reputable reputation this would be the least of worries. I wasn’t even offered a refund for the parking cost. However it is an ongoing investigation as they need to check parking garage cameras. Not sure how that proves the car was driven around the city?? Do not trust the Renaissance to car for your care. You’re better off leaving it in the street. Read less

The good: Fairly modern rooms Very nice staff New gym (not big) Beautiful breakfast room with views over Times Square Plats/Titaniums get a free meal at the bar between 5:30pm and late. Pretty good value (got pizza one night and chicken wings the other) Bad: 30 usd per day destination fee It’s at Times Square... Breakfast spread is very limited

Overall this is a very nice hotel at the North end of Times Square. Room was surprisingly large with good lighting and a comfortable bed and good quality bathroom/shower. I had only two negative experiences: 1. I really don't like the automatic-off bathroom lights. Not clear on what the timing is (no feedback, but clearly went off in less than 30 min). I have no problem with visible timers, or with a card slot by the door for overall power control, but simply do not like automatic lights that go out without feedback or warning. 2. I had the unfortunate sense of being cheated the entire time I was in the hotel. I was there as part of a group, and had been warned that there was a $30 "destination charge" that was part of our rate, and that we'd get $30 each day worth of food/drink if we used it. I don't like these fees (does _anybody_?), but what was really troubling was how opaque it was and how it seemed they were trying to hide this (when checking in, I had to ask about it) and frankly cheat on it (when I did buy a cheese plate at the bar, it was charged to my credit card right away, and I had to deal with it at check-out; and it seems they were trying to double-charge sales tax, both on the destination charge and the food itself). Similarly, they use obscure wording to make it less-than-clear on the water bottles in the room that they are included in the fee. No one piece of this was hard to solve, but when you're paying several hundred a night for a room, it should come without the feeling of being nickel and dimed! Read less
