I have been to NYC a lot and lived there for many years so I bring with me a level of familiarity - as I got near the hotel I started to dread the 'idea' of the location. I was thinking it might be too close to Times Square. I was thinking it might be noisy and overly touristy and cheesy (it was none of these). The location is brilliant. It was minutes from Times Square and a plethora of theatres, minutes from Radio City Hall and Rochefeller, 5th/Madison etc. The hotel itself was really nice - dark, ambient. ALL the reception staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable. My room key had to be reactivated EVERY day but such was the personality and humor of the reception staff I found myself laughing about it rather than getting agitated (even when I had to wait to get the lift to the room, realize the key was not working and then wait for the lift to take me back to reception to get it reactivated). Very annoying but the staff managed it perfectly. The room was small - very small but hey, its NYC! I lived out of my suitcase for the week. Breakfast was included but here's where the hotel lets itself down - it consisted of cornflakes and frosted flakes, some pastries, scrambled eyes and sausage (lukewarm), bread for toast, Vanilla probiotic yoghurt, fruit, coffee and juices. I was there for 6 nights and it was the same line up every day. It's basic and its boring - you get in and get out. Plastic spoons for cereal - not sure why we had to use plastic spoons every day. It half reminded me of when I last went camping! Room service food was lovely - but 3 out of 3 times I ordered room service it was delivered without cutlery. It did make me laugh - what are the chances that would happen? There was a cutlery theme - it was either plastic or Houdini. All in all though - lovely hotel, lovely staff, very clean and an ideal location. AND, I got to use the Equinox gym every day - amazing gym and seamless entry (the gym staff were very welcoming and warm to me as a guest of the Sanctuary). No hesitation recommending this hotel! Whole experience was perfect! Charming and stylish, friendly and casual - in the most appealing way. Treated beautifully by the staff, the interior is smart and cozy and sharp, just like the entrance, an unexpected pleasure. Excellent bartenders at the Haven (rooftop bar) who somehow manage to put a spin on the most ordinary combinations, and yet also produce some really scrumptious unusual cocktails. With a colorful and unusual view (inside and outside) it was the perfect place to wind up the day! And so nice to have a healthy breakfast included each morning - really good coffee! Read less

Can a hotel be sexy? If so, this one definitely is. As soon as you walk through the gorgeous wooden double doors you are greeted by attentive staff and a warm, sultry atmosphere. We looked forward to going down to have breakfast each morning with the zen music and really nice continental style breakfast spread, all included with the stay. The room service from the steakhouse was one of the best steaks I've had from room service any where. The rooftop bar, Haven, is like a cozy Tahoe chalet in the middle of NYC. We spent many nights up here having great drinks, bites, and chatting with the sweetest staff. The concierge, Andrew, was above and beyond phenomenal. He was extremely helpful with all our needs and questions and made excellent recommendations. He made our trip so memorable. We can't wait to return and I keep dreaming about the signature scent of the elevators! Lol, where do I find this scent?! Read less

Great location for being able to walk around or take the Subway to see different parts of NYC. Check in was smooth and the staff was very friendly. We arrived before our room was ready, and they let us keep our bags there until check in time. Our room was small, but we were aware of that at booking and after all, it’s NYC! We didn’t spend much time in the room anyway it being our first trip to NYC. The ambiance is very relaxing and nice. Didn’t feel like a typical hotel especially in the city. We went up to the Haven rooftop to relax and have a drink. Drinks were averagely priced for other bars nearby and had nice music to enjoy. Check out was easy too. Overall, great location and nice staff. Read less
