The hotel

Fancy staying somewhere that has been the home to a number of several Hollywood celebrities, most notably Marilyn Monrow? Look no further. A hote that has heaps of history, jazz-inspired decoration, and a central location to suit all New York visitors - the Lexington dates back to 1929, and the marble lobby may have been modernized, but it's all got it's original structure. Here you're just a stones throw from the glitzy shops of 5th Avenue, and even closer to the iconic Grand Central Station. From Standard Rooms to more spacious suites, you'll be comfortable whichever you opt for. and with Starbucks coffee available in the lobby, and a classic cocktail list at the Stayton, you'll not go thirsty whilst you're here either.

Pulling up to this hotel and entering the lobby gives you a feeling that this hotel is of decent quality. Looks can be deceiving. The check in process was quick however the attendant was not forthcoming with what I think is critical information. There is a "designation fee" charged daily. Ok fine it's NYC I expect some sort of extra fees for whatever. He pointed out that on the card where the keys were were items that were "included" with this fee. Listed on there was Breakfast and 2 Citi bike rentals. I thought "Cool, free breakfast. Nice." Wellll what he didn't mention was that you would be charged for the breakfast buffet and then credited at the end of your stay. Not a big deal right? Well when I go to the breakfast station and I give my room number the attendant couldn't be bothered to tell me that while I'll be charged I'd get a credit. The ONLY reason I found this information is because I asked later that night. The second issue is that the don't TELL YOU that if they hold your bags after check out due to having a later flight it's $3 PER bag and it's CASH only! Again, I found this out after asking if it was cash only due to some other reviews I read. the convo went like this: Me: "Can I drop off my bags tomorrow after check out since I have a late flight?" Front desk person: "Sure, just leave them with the bellman up front." Me: "............" Awkward pause "Is there a charge for that?" Front desk person:"Yes, it's $3 per bag." Silence.................. "Me: "Cool and they take card right? "Front desk person: "No. It's cash only." Me: "Cool cool." I don't understand why anyone who works at the front desk is unable to give out ALL OF THE INFORMATION needed. The rooms were SMALLLLLL and I get it's NYC and space is limited but it was very small. The toilet! Oh boy, to flush the toilet you have to press a button on the SIDE of the toilet and it was not easy. The worst design choice I've seen on a toilet ever and this is coming from someone that's traveled in Europe and Africa. There is no way a child or an elderly person could flush the toilet. Maybe it was intentional? Who knows but legit terrible. The AC never turned on after the first night. Luckily it was cool out but still very annoying. They also did not have any HBO or Showtime channels which isn't the biggest deal but I was surprised to not have at least one movie channel. Read less

Used Bonvoy points for an overnight stay. We were given a very large room on a high floor that was beautifully decorated. Staff was very helpful at check in and all around the hotel. Lovely lobby bar. Great midtown location. Would stay here again.

Rooms were very dated. Bath looked like it was 50 years old with paint missing / rust in various sections. Air conditioning let out a musty smell so could use. Windows were filthy. Pillows incredibly uncomfortable. Stayed for three and never again.

On arrival was told room not ready, then later told they had sold it! Could not find us a room for us but we didn't budge & after a lot of discussion they finally found us a room with one bed, which the 2 of us were not happy about sharing(& a toilet that wouldn't flush properly). This hotel was booked in February. No offer of any sort of compensation or upgrade for the night but the manager did say to go find another hotel if we wanted!! If we weren't so tired,in hindsight, would have been the better option. Needless to say problems the following morning & had to wait till 4pm to get into another room! Felt if we were part of BA who stayed there or tennis people(US Open was on) we wouldn't have been treat like 2nd class citizens. Definitely would not stop there again , very poor customer relations with a manager who wasn't a bit bothered about us. Also no reply to my email I have sent. Read less

Bed was comfy. This hotel has a great location with easy access to everything. Read less
