My wife and I stayed here for two nights in celebration of our anniversary. Upon learning this we were kindly ungraded to a room with at least a partial view of Central Park, on the 10th floor. I never ask for or expect upgrades, especially at upmarket properties such as this, but it is nice to receive them and this was delivered, as were all the services at the hotel, in a friendly and efficient manner. The Ritz-Carlton is very understated from the street. No glittering reception here, no gaudy or glitzy gold encrusted ostentation that you might find in certain NYC properties and I like this. The reception is small but the staff very efficient so waits are kept to a minimum although I can't help wondering if there would be delays if a large party arrived at once, given the small number of check in desks. I have to say I never saw this when we were staying. Doors will be opened, bags retrieved from the car with a deft touch. Friendly and again, understated efficiency and even elegance. It's actually why one stays at a property like this and I, for one, recognize and appreciate it. The cynical among us may claim that this is all done for tips and whilst I can't prove that not to be so, the tips I did give were received with gratitude and they never felt expected. The hotel is pretty intimate. There is a lovely bar area, staffed with delightful greeters and stewards. There is a bank of small elevators and I mean cosy - not much room for more than 4 people especially in COVID times. However, this hotel pulls off the remarkable elevator trick whereby one never has to wait long for a car to show up. I didn't wait more than 10 seconds even from the 10th floor. I have experienced this at other luxury hotels and I don't know how they do it but it is most welcome. The location is great - right opposite Central Park and you can be in the park within 2 mins of leaving. The room was excellent - extremely comfortable and relatively large with a huge bathroom. Admittedly, we were provided with an accessible bathroom so it may have been more generous than others, but it was tastefully appointed with marble. We had a good view out the window onto the street, but also taking in a good view of the park. All in all, extremely comfortable and they do a great job with housekeeping and the turn down service as well as a great variety of useful items in the room such as sewing kits etc. There was no coffee maker which is maybe a more budget hotel thing but I always like that when I wake up although there are Starbucks within 5 mins walk. If there was a coffee maker in the room I apologize to the hotel - sometimes I don't see these things and it may be a concession to COVID. If so, it was one of the few as, although the staff all wore masks they seem to be weathering the pandemic as well as can be expected. Now, we are Bonvoy elite members and this stay was on points so we were not paying rack rate for this level of service which, I admit, can change perceptions. However, this is a first class hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely return and recommend it to others. Read less

Hi, After some time of consideration I have decided to post this review. I visited the Ritz-Carlton a few weeks ago: on August, Sunday 29th at around 7 PM and had a terrible and upsetting experience with the front desk. I live in New York City now, but 15 to 10 years ago used to visit from Mexico City and stay at the hotel with my father. My dad passed away on August, Friday 27th in a different country. Because of the pandemic I cannot travel, so the only thing I could think of was to visit places that reminded me of him. One of them was the lobby bar of the Ritz-Carlton, where before dinner or heading back to our rooms we would spend lots of time in the sofas and listening and playing the piano and requesting songs. I visited the lobby and could not see the piano anywhere. I walked to the front desk and approached the man working there: 30-something, white, and with a beard. I politely asked if there was no longer a piano in the bar. He listened to what I said and stared blankly at me, then with a look of disgust in his face and after some time he said he did not understand the question. I repeated myself and asked if there was no longer a piano in the lobby bar. He looked angry and annoyed and acted repelled and repulsed as if I had asked something completely inexplicable. He then turned and looked at my partner, perhaps waiting for an explanation, and when he did not answer, he said in the most condescending way: "Are you asking me if there's a piano in the lobby bar? No!". I just left. I was already sad and heartbroken and this man made the experience so much worse. I am aware I was sensitive during that time, but my father dying or not, no one should be treated that way: not in a Motel 6 or the Ritz-Carlton in Central Park. I was extremely disappointed and, sadly, left with tainted memories of the place. A hotel should be praised with the service of its staff, not ashamed. And this man is nothing to be proud of. The Ritz-Carlton should be aware of their top-notch service and not hire pretentious, condescending people. Read less

The Ritz Central Park is an iconic hotel not only in NY but in the world. My wife and I stayed here for a 3 night weekend. We booked a grand park view room which was well appointed and had a great view. Everything was perfect until my wife wanted to take a bath before our dinner. I started to fill up the tub when I noticed something floating and sticking to the bottom of the tub. I brought my wife to confirm. IT WAS SEMEN. I immediately contacted the front desk. They sent up a maid to clean the tub. I talked to the manager who said it is probably just conditioner. It was not conditioner, and even if it was, they are a health certified 5 star hotel and this showed that our room was not cleaned before we checked in. We opted to move to a different room since we concluded that our room was disgusting. The only room available was a partial park view. What management offered me for these troubles was $200, $100 a night for the remainder of the stay. The bare minimum they could have offered. I have stayed in Ritz carltons many times before and the only issue I had was at the tahoe location where we had two queens when we had booked a king. When we notified them of this they set us up in a luxurious residence in the hotel and ended up comping our entire stay. While the hotel is nice, the cleanliness of the room, especially in times like now is paramount. When paying $1,200 a night for a room you expect the cleanliness and service to be perfect. I will not be staying here again. Read less
