The rooms are still wonderfully large, and very pleasant to hang out in. The furniture is worn (well, “mature”) but comfortable, and there was a nice butterfly chair to read in. But wouldn’t it have been nice if the fridge was big enough for a bottle of wine, and not in the corner where it was nearly inaccessible, and if there were a microwave so… Read more

But wouldn’t it have been nice if the fridge was big enough for a bottle of wine, and not in the corner where it was nearly inaccessible, and if there were a microwave so we could heat up a little food, and maybe two wine glasses, and maybe some real cream for the (really poor) coffee. The attached restaurant is a casualty of COVID and is closed, the two local cafes are very disorganized (both got a very simple order wrong), and there isn’t much about. One entire block on 3d Ave is empty storefronts. The staff are great, and we thank them. Oh, and they have this system (I think all Affinia do this) where you get to spend $10 (“for free”) in their shop—for overpriced items and a very small selection. This is not an amenity, Affinia! There isn't a huge amount to say. I checked in to this extremely dimly lit establishment. The smell immediately hits you as how poorly it's cleaned. The front desk manager was on the phone for quite a while before she saw to me. There are a lot of screaming children running around. The front desk manager was on the phone for quite a while before she saw to me. There are a lot of screaming children running around. After I checked-in, no offer to help me with my bags - I made it to the elevator which was more narrow than my suitcase and arrived at my floor. As this point the smell was even worse, which was ironic because the cleaning crew were servicing the floor at the time. I found my room and it was the cherry on the cake. Bathtub grey and covered in limescale. Dirty toilet and sink. All surfaces covered in dust and dirty pillows and sheets. The blinds were covered in a thick yellow layer and I honestly didn't feel I could sit anywhere or touch anything. I turned right around, checked out immediately and switched hotels. 1 star is being generous. Read less

They are happy to answer questions and they always greet us with a smile. We’ve stayed in a few different room types, all of which had kitchenettes, were decorated nicely, & beds super comfortable. This trip we splurged and got the Terrace Suite. It was definitely worth it! We had a private balcony and a city view looking right out at the Empire State Building. Murray Hill is a quiet neighborhood away from the touristy crowds. Grand Central is a short walk, making it easy to get around. Would be nice if it were just a bit closer to the subway stations, but I’m guessing that would take away from the quiet I so enjoy with this property. I stayed at another Affinia hotel in NYC in the past as well, and it had all the same great qualities. Can’t wait for my next trip to NYC and the Shellburne. Read less

I loved the convenience of the hotel and the very helpful staff, but the temperature in my room was 76 degrees, and nothing I could do with the thermostat did anything about it. I’m hoping that we can use the same hotel for next year’s event, and that they’ll find a way to find me a cooler room.
