The hotel

You may be in the heart of NYC but you’ll enjoy peace and quiet in a W hotel room. Head to The Living Room, complete with DJs and an extensive drinks list! The hotel’s Blue Fin Restaurant is also highly recommended, and comes complete with a sushi bar. If that's not enough, there's Dos Caminos serving Mexican fare, and a margarita bar! Directly facing the bright lights of Broadway, a dramatic, floating, stainless steel staircase leads the way to a semi-private alcove dining area where guests can kick-back and listen to the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie. A wonderful place to stay for couples, friends and family, you’ll also enjoy the W’s famous Whatever/Whenever service – nothing is too much trouble for the staff, all you have to do is ask!

This hotel has 57 floors and features 509 rooms & suites, 3 restaurants and bars, a 24 hour gym and a stylish décor. At the time of visiting this hotel, I was a Titanium Elite member under the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme. I booked a skyline view room with 2 double beds which averaged out to $700 per night. (3 adults sharing). I thought, being a Titanium member, I would receive a complimentary upgrade. However, I read many reviews of New York hotels having little to no upgrades when it comes to suites. So, I didn’t want to chance it and I used my SNA (Suite Night Award) upgrade perk under the elite benefits of the loyalty programme. You can watch the full review on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel. I chose to be upgrade to a Marvellous Suite which was successful! The room was nice and had plenty of space, a separate lounge and bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms and 2 TVs! Watch the video for the full details. As an elite member, when checking in, I was given an option of a welcome amenity on top of complimentary breakfast! The choice was 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or a $10 food & beverage credit. The hotel charges a $25 destination fee, daily! Many think this is because they are staying in Time Square. However, the hotel, like most in New York, does not have a swimming pool, BUT, within the destination fee, the hotel can provide you with a voucher to use at a nearby gym (about 5-10 minutes walk) where they do have a swimming pool! Pretty cool! However, there is a decent gym onsite (more for cardio and a few weights machines and dumbbells). The complimentary ‘elite’ breakfast is limited to a small menu (shown on the video) but they do also have an a la carte menu. Sadly, the elite menu does not have any egg dishes for those of you who eat eggs. These and other western breakfast options like bacon will need to be purchased from the a la carte menu. They did have almond milk for those of you who don’t drink dairy milk. Overall, as an elite member very close to reaching the top tier (Ambassador), I don’t think the breakfast is very good, especially compared with hotels almost in touching distance like the JW Marriott Marquis or JW Marriott Essex House. If I plan to visit Time Square again, I would choose a different hotel, with more benefits for elite members. However, if you are not an elite member or are gold or below, then this isn’t much of an issue and otherwise, the hotel is in a good location. Check out the video on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel and I hope you enjoy it! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating W Hotel on Times Square is clean, comfortable and nice, in spite of Times Square noise.

We loved the W Hotel. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom is also small and not really the most private. The lobby is really cool and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had to request coffee service for the room, but when we did it was there. Being right on Times Square it was noisy at night, especially on… Read more

Being right on Times Square it was noisy at night, especially on the weekend, but that is not the fault of the hotel. We walked to the theatre and took the subway easily everywhere else. Read less

I am currently still at this hotel and honestly can say I can’t wait for this experience (if that’s what you want to call it to end!) I doubt my feedback matters or anything will be done about this (as have tried explaining this to staff who are either inexperienced or ignorant with what customer service should be) All I can say is avoid this… Read more

What a disappointment thank goodness we don’t have to endure all day and can escape most of the day. Read less

When we tried leaving for dinner the elevators were not working and our room phone was not working. After about 45 minutes, the elevators began working again. When we inquired as to what happened we were informed that there was an issue on the 46th floor, however they had no way to notify any of the guests. They did not use the fire alarm, make an announcement or use the TV. The place was crazy, management lost all control of the situation. One would have thought that after the events of 911, other NY tragedies and world events communication would have been key. Management was not very forth coming. The location is great except for the noise out side which is easily heard in your room. This was my 1st and last time at a Marriott property. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating A "Just Okay" Experience in Times Square

Stayed here during a recent conference at neighboring Marriot. The hotel has a sleek interior in the lobby areas but the rooms are aggressively average and show wear and tear. Even on higher floor substantial noise from Times Square, as you would expect. Would not necessarily recommend relative to the price point.
