The hotel

You may be in the heart of NYC but you’ll enjoy peace and quiet in a W hotel room. Head to The Living Room, complete with DJs and an extensive drinks list! The hotel’s Blue Fin Restaurant is also highly recommended, and comes complete with a sushi bar. If that's not enough, there's Dos Caminos serving Mexican fare, and a margarita bar! Directly facing the bright lights of Broadway, a dramatic, floating, stainless steel staircase leads the way to a semi-private alcove dining area where guests can kick-back and listen to the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie. A wonderful place to stay for couples, friends and family, you’ll also enjoy the W’s famous Whatever/Whenever service – nothing is too much trouble for the staff, all you have to do is ask!

Avoid these people at all cost. We recently stayed at the W Time Square - the moment you walk out on to the street they surround you, it was our first morning in NY and were a bit dazed and wanted to get our bearings and eat something so i said to the young man - we will come back later, we crossed the street and walked a bit and i noticed the bus pull up so i proceeded to the booth. The young man in question came running across the road and yelled at his colleague i was his customer and i had to buy from him. Firstly I am nobodies customer to own a sale, he approached me and was unwanted i wasn't ready to buy. Period. Next thing they are all yelling at each other as to who gets me. I was so disgusted i walked off to find a bakery. I didnt stop there, the young man followed me to the bakery and waited outside, when i went outside some 100 metres away from the last interaction he wanted me again to buy from him. This is the most disgraceful act of pushing someone i have ever seen. We have been around the world on these buses mostly Big Bus and never encountered vultures like this. Hang your heads in shame everyone on the corner of 7th avenue and W47st. Read less

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Very Nice Hotel, But Deceptive Practice of "Destination Fee" Was a Costly Surprise

This is a well managed and comfortable hotel in a prime location. I have nothing but praise for that aspect of my experience. However, upon arrival I was informed of an additional fee of $30 per night per room for what was termed a "Destination Fee". For two rooms that we stayed for 2 nights this amounted to an additional fee of $120 out of pocket. This was not mentioned when I booked through Expedia. The quick explanation that we were given upon check-in made it sound as if we would recover this fee by buying drinks at the bar, which were marked up 4X. I think this is a very deceptive and greedy practice that should be terminated. Read less

There are levels of poor service. For example, compared to hotels in Asia, America delivers relatively poorer customer service. Within America, New York has a reputation for not being too customer friendly. Within New York, it doesn't get worse than Times Square. Within Times Square, the W hotel takes the cake for callousness.

I had a terrible experience at W New YorkTimes Square. The room had an unbearable smell—a nauseating mix of cigarette smoke and mold. It was so bad that we couldn’t sleep. Definitely not up to the standards I expected from Marriott. Avoid this place if you value your comfort.
