W New York Times Square

Midtown, New York

The hotel

You may be in the heart of NYC but you’ll enjoy peace and quiet in a W hotel room. Head to The Living Room, complete with DJs and an extensive drinks list! The hotel’s Blue Fin Restaurant is also highly recommended, and comes complete with a sushi bar. If that's not enough, there's Dos Caminos serving Mexican fare, and a margarita bar! Directly facing the bright lights of Broadway, a dramatic, floating, stainless steel staircase leads the way to a semi-private alcove dining area where guests can kick-back and listen to the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie. A wonderful place to stay for couples, friends and family, you’ll also enjoy the W’s famous Whatever/Whenever service – nothing is too much trouble for the staff, all you have to do is ask!

PROs - Times Square - Spacious room - good shower - decent darkening of room at night CONs - dirty (picture attached) - no recognition of elite status - no coffee in room - no real meals in the hotel - scratchy sheets I would never stay here again. From the moment I checked in I could tell it would be a subpar Marriott experience.

Received a confirmation e-mail from Marriott 2 days before check-in that my upgrade is confirmed in high floor Marvelous suite. However, when we checked in, I was downgraded with no explanation. I am a Titanium elite member and never expected this from Marriott. Later on I connected with the hotel support and found that I was downgraded because hotel was sold out. Basically, Marriott was comfortable in going back on their word (in written) even to their Titanium members just for getting a little more revenue. I feel these kind of incidents will hurt the brand. Like most of the Marriott hotels, this one required masks in all common areas. They even took the extra step to request the vaccination card for the lounge and bar areas. We took great comfort in their measures and attempts to continue to keep NYC and their guests safe. The hotel is still a bit stripped down, without any room service or mini bar amenities. Again, this is the pandemic, and it has been my experience at the hotels across the board. There are numerous places in the area to pick up small items and a Starbucks directly across the street. The daily maid service is back to normal. We had a high-floor room above the lights and noise and felt that we had a little oasis each night when we came back from our adventures around the city. It is the first time I have stayed anywhere near Times Square in all of my times in NYC, and the W did not disappoint. It's proximity to the Broadway theaters and the subway was incredible, and we were able to get to and from the area with great ease. Finally, the staff accommodated all of our requests, including an extra late check-out and any little thing we needed. While it is not one of the fully-updated W Hotels, it was within the price point for NYC. Despite my trepidation about staying in the Times Square, I am sure that we will stay there again for the next Broadway trip. Read less

Our only complaint was there was no coffee maker in the room and no coffee on site. Our only option was to wait in line at Starbucks across the street. We would have given 5 star review if this very basic and normally complimentary amenity was available. Read less
