I have stayed at this hotel twice a year on business for several years now. I am also a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member. You think that would get you some respect from the hotel. But no. These guys failed to return one of my laundry items, and as a result I had no undershirt on a hot summer's day. Arrived at the head office with sweat stains on my dress shirt. I told Housekeeping. The undershirt didn't appear by the time I checked out. I told the front desk when I checked out. I wrote Marriott days after the stay. But nobody did anything to compensate me. Nobody at the Westin Grand Central even had the courtesy to write and apologize. No shirt, no apology. Well, no more of my business! This may seem like a small issue, but it is symptomatic of poor hotel management. Next time I'm in NY I'm going Hilton. Read less

For the price you pay for the Westin you expect to be wow'd when you walk into the lobby or when you open your room. Instead it was more of that meh feeling you get when you walk into most hotels. It's a big hotel and the volume of people flowing through there is quite a bit. So the personal touch gets lost as you feel more like a herd of cattle getting processed at check in. The bar off the lobby is a good spot after a long day or if you ware waiting. The rooms are nice and spacious but you'll need ear plugs for most of the night from the street noise. I'm a super heavy sleeper and still wore noise-cancelling headphones. Most of the guests are there for business so being able to use the exercise room or to get breakfast was impossible in the mornings the three days I was there - just too many people all at once. The locations is really what drove many to stay there and is probably what keeps people going back. Read less

Apart from the occasional sirens we weren't really disturbed by any traffic noise. The staff that we met all seemed friendly and each morning we had a cheery hello from the concierge on the outside foyer. As there were 3 women in the room, I took my opportunity to get ready first and make my way to the bar for an early drink. If I had to have one moan it would be the bar prices. 13 dollars (£10.50) for a pint of beer is a bit steep, so I only had 1 drink in there and spent the next 4 nights having an early drink in Muldoons Irish bar which is a 2 minute walk away. Aside from that our stay was very enjoyable, I particularly liked coming in from a warm day out and grabbing a fruit infused ice water in the hotel lobby. As stated in other reviews the location is very good, in walking distance to Times Square, Grand Central Station, Broadway and the subway. Taxis to and from JFK are a flat rate and are always available at the front of the hotel. I would certainly stay here again. Read less

This was my second stay, after being stranded in NYC due to cancelled flights, and it was so much better than the first. My first stay had a very frustrating check in experience, where the lobby was super crowded, and I was assigned a room that was different from one I had booked, so I had to go all the way downstairs and get in line again to sort it out. This time, it was not busy at all, and I actually was given an upgrade according to my online profile preferences, although well within the confines of a Gold member. I was also pleased to learn that the destination fee now included breakfast for one, either at the restaurant or through room service. Room service is a huge time saver in the morning, and well worth the destination fee. Kudos to the change here, as it used to be a dining credit, which worked well enough too. The room is fairly typical Westin, with muted colors and well appointed amenities (e.g. water and robes waiting for you), along with a comfortable bed and bath setup. Honestly could not fault the room itself, other than some noticeable wear. Unfortunately, the single pane windows at this Westin really mar the overall experience. The first time I was here, the garbage trucks rolled up and down the street all night long. This time, no garbage trucks, but despite the super thick curtains designed for insulation, you could still hear the street noise pretty clearly, despite being on the 14th floor. I can't imagine how dreadful it would be on a lower floor. Too bad about the windows. My circumstances made this a pleasant stay (i.e. an appreciated upgrade and no garbage trucks), night and day from the first stay. Read less

Had a two night stay here, as a family, in late July 2019 before heading on to Orlando. Both nights were severely disturbed by noise from the adjacent room, waking us and our young children. We complained about this after the first night, were made to feel like a bit of an inconvenience, but were advised to call security if it happened again the following night, which it did, again waking us and our children. Called security a minimum of three times that night who visited our room to hear the noise and the adjacent room to sort it out. On checking out the following morning front desk apologised and offered a refund, which we accepted. That refund has never materialised. Presumably because we're now gone, back in the UK where we can do very little. I have contacted the hotel on numerous occasions, both by telephone and email, and been made promises about investigations and 'we'll call you back' but none of this has happened either. And apparently there's nothing on record of our complaint, even though we witnessed notes being taken. Appalling customer service. We'll stay elsewhere on our next visit to New York and would advise others to do the same. Read less
