Having booked 8 nights over Christmas at the Westin, returning was deja vu. We stayed at this hotel when it was the Helmsley in 2002 and 04. Having returned many times to NYC we switched to the Grand Hyatt but thought we would return to check out the Westin. Our room #3517 on the 35th floor was comfortable and we were pleased. Concerned about being close to the elevator, it wasn't much of a bother for noise even though the hotel was very busy. The king bed was comfortable, the room was clean however housekeeping was not consistent. Dirty glasses would not be removed, complimentary bottled water was not replaced, etc. I realize it was during the holiday season, but housekeeping could have been better. The resort fee wasn't an inconvenience as we were given vouchers for daily use at the hotel for either breakfast or drinks in the lounge. Overall, I would choose to stay again at the Westin. I almost didn’t stay at this hotel because of the reviews on here, but because of the price, I gave it a chance. I’m glad we stayed here. The rooms were very clean, the front desk and concierge staff were super friendly and very helpful, and housekeeping was courteous as well. The hotel is 2 blocks from Grand Central, and it was convenient for me because I traveled with my 1 year old. The ONLY issue I had during my stay was the fees that they charge your card during your stay. I was told prior to check-in that there was a $30 hotel/resort fee. I was totally fine with that. When I checked in to the hotel Saturday for 1 night, my card was charged $100 for incidentals. On top of the $30 fee. We have yet to be refunded for the incidental fee, and did not eat at the restaurant or use the mini bar snacks. THEN on top of those fees, there’s a $15/night fee for the wi-fi. I assumed that was included in the resort fee, but it wasn’t. So we didn’t use that either. That was the only downside in my stay. Everything was great otherwise. Read less

The room should NOT have been allowed to have guests. It needed to be totally gutted. The walls have stains, the carpet was soiled, the shower and tub had black mildew and was chipping. It looked like a motel 3 (if such a thing exists), was literally waiting for someone to tell me it was a joke. Maid service came and made an attempt to clean but… Read more

It looked like a motel 3 (if such a thing exists), was literally waiting for someone to tell me it was a joke. Maid service came and made an attempt to clean but it was no better when they left. I would not stay here until this hotel has a total renovation. Common area, bar, and location was good. Staff was friendly but the room quality is not what you expect. Read less

I've been staying at the Westin New York Grand Central hotel for many years, and have noticed a steep decline in customer service over the past few years. This last visit was TERRIBLE. I was placed in a room on the 33rd floor, and was woken up at 9:00 a.m. to extremely loud banging and drilling right above my room. It turns out that floors 34 through 40 are under construction. How do you not advise guests that the hotel is under construction, especially guests that you are placing on the 33rd floor!!! To make matters worse, when I callled to talk to a manager about the noise, they wouldn't answer the phone and would not return my messages - waited 2 hours for a return call, which never happened. I then had to track down a manager by going to the lobby. This is just not acceptable, and certainly made for a miserable stay. At the very least they need to put messaging on their website about the construction, as well as advise guests checking in, not to mention returning phone calls. Read less
