As a common traveler, and an employee of Hyatt, this was the WORST hotel stay I have ever had out of any chain ever.

I am a frequent traveler at many different hotel brands. Hyatt has always been my favorite, which is why I decided to work for that company that I admired so much. The day I checked in to this horrible building, I had traveled to Rhode Island for a friend's wedding when I realized I left my medicine at the hotel I was staying at in New York the night before. (the Thompson Central Park, MUCH better, highly recommend.) I had to leave my friend's wedding which I traveled all the way from Texas to attend and drive back to the city. I am too tired to drive back so I decided to book a night at the Hyatt Grand Central, which I've stayed at before and it was lovely. Upon check in, the front desk agent was extremely rude and confrontational. I booked with my employee rate and before even checking my ID, he demanded to know my global and essentially prover that I was an employee. I wouldn't have been able to book it with that rate if I wasn't one, so it was very condescending. Next, I explained my situation to him, to see if there was any way I could get discounted parking. He cut me off before I even finished my sentence and said no. So essentially, my room was only $20 more expensive than parking my car was for less than 10 hours. Did not tell me what he was running my card for, did not give me the 50% discount card I receive as an employee, did not inform me that I get a $15 F&B credit that is included in the destination fee, and did not tell me how to retrieve my car. After that horrible interaction I got to my room which was a disgusting disappointment. The room did not even have chromecast and there was urine in my toilet. I tried to call down for waters and make up remover, but my room phone was broken. Then I tried called from my cell and it still did not go through. I went back downstairs to request those items. I was told I had to purchase water bottles for $8 a pop. The girl at the market counter refused to take my global ID so I could get my 50% off and, again, I was not informed of the $15 F&B credit. It took 4 employees to figure out if they had makeup remover and finally when it got to my room, the gentleman who brought it was the only nice person I encountered. Upon check out they informed me it would take 45 mins to get my car....which no one told me about. Also, upon receiving my bill they did not discount my waters or use the $15 off that I paid a destination fee to use. The point being, its hard to mess up a less than 10 hour stay for someone, and they managed to do it within minutes.
Another point I would like to make is that whether I was an employee or not, that is not the way to treat people, especially in the hospitality industry. In fact, when we have employees stay at our hotel, we roll out the red carpet for them and make their stay special no matter the circumstances. As a Hyatt, they did not meet the company's standards, and we should even be embarrassed that this is a Hyatt property. I am 100% convinced I would have had a better time at a motel 6 in a bad neighborhood in Harlem. Do better.

Hotel is in a great location and is fairly modern. Room was fine, although air con was very noisy. Reception area was very cold, uncomfortably so. Charging $4 per bag to store bags after checkout and before flights home is a disgrace, it cost me $16 for my bags round be stored for hours
Exceeded our expectations

Our room was incredibly spacious, far exceeding our expectations. The location is perfect for exploring the city as well. However, a word of caution about the security at the front entrance—they seem to have a close relationship with the cab drivers and may encourage you to use their services. Unfortunately, some of these drivers try to scam you by not recording the journey and asking you to pay on their phones at inflated rates.
Overall, our stay at the Hyatt was wonderful, but be mindful of the taxi situation outside.

I normally stay at other hotels in the grand central area when in NY for business but everything was booked with fashion week and UN in town. Location is good. A decent sized room. Immediately upon entering I smelled mildew and I am very sensitive to mold. When spending $500 plus a night, you can't have a .50 cent bottle or water in the room or a glass? think plastic cups covered in saran wrap that you get at the cheapest motels. the real kicker was their market store in the lobby sells 1/2 bottle of wines for over $35 and I bought one ( a glass each for my partner and me). Digusting fruit flies were in the room and landed in the glass of wine and I couldn't drink it. Just OK.
