Kimpton Alexis Hotel

Seattle, Seattle & Washington State

The hotel

Historic brick grittiness meets creature comforts at this turn-of-the-century building. On the National Register of Historic Places – and the Gold Rush map – Alexis Hotel won a Condé Nast Traveler People’s Choice Award in 2015. Its downtown location puts you between Pike Place and Pioneer Square, each a few blocks away, with free morning tea and coffee before you head out (and a free wine hour when you return). The 24-hour gym’s anything but historic, winning Shape magazine’s award for ‘most fun’ hotel gym. And its popular Bookstore Bar & Café is as cosy as it sounds: book-covered brick walls and views of bustling 1st Avenue set the scene from brunch to late-night dining, with dishes by award-winning TV chef Caprial Pence, and an incredible rare whiskey selection.

This was my first time staying at a kimpton property and I truly enjoyed it. The hotel is full of charm and character. The room is spacious, high ceiling, well lit with 3 large windows, well appointed with tasteful art and furniture. Upon check in I mentioned it was my parent's 44th anniversary. Paulina took note of it and even prepared a little gift for them during turn down service. Paulina and staff go out of their way to provide a unique experience. Thank you Paulina for your attention to detail and thoughtfulness! I also forgot my toiletries and they happily sent somebody up with a bag of complimentary toiletries for me. The hotel also has complimentary bicycles for guests to use during their stay. Yoga mats in the closest. There is a evening reception every night in the lobby from 5pm-6pm where they have a variety of complimentary wine and some small hors d'oeuvres. Free coffee and tea from 6am-10am in the lobby. They use coffee from story teller cafe! Nice! The location is fantastic. Everything is within relative walking distance or a cheap Uber ride around. Pioneer square (10-15 min), pike place market (15-20 min), Chinatown (15 min). Coming from SEATAC I took the Link Light Rail ($3 one way for adults) to pioneer square and then walked 10-15min to the Alexis Hotel. If you are an IHG platinum member then you also get a $10 raid the bar/mini bar voucher. Cheyanne also was very nice at checkout. She was able to accommodate my request for a late check-out so I had time to grab lunch. I was able to get a good night's sleep on the comfortable beds. But did notice sound from the outside. So if you're a light sleeper, request for a room not facing the street. Also parking could get pricey as it's $43 a day. Unless you have a hybrid or full electric car then it's only half that amount. But that's why it's best to Uber or is public transportation. Go green. Save some green. The hotel is not big. So the service you receive feels more personable. Would return back here if I'm in Seattle downtown. Read less

The staff is terrific, from the door men, to the front desk, to the concierge, housekeeping and the restaurant. I was upgraded to a room with a couch because of my IGH membership. Also received some other perks, like a $10 credit on the honor bar items. The room was comfortable and quiet, except for trash being emptied in the alley in the morning, which is not the hotel's fault. The bed was comfy, and the towels are the softest towels I have ever had in a hotel! The concierge, Leann, was wonderful to us, recommending great restaurants and wine. The front desk staff was professional and responsive. When I left some cheese in my fridge (which I had intended to bring home), I contacted the hotel the next day after checkout. The housekeeper had saved my cheese, and I was able to have it shipped to me. I am very pleased about that! The hotel replied to texts quickly. I received a text from the hotel after check-in and was able to text the front desk through that number. Read less

We had two rooms, executive suite and double queen. Upon arrival only the double queen was available which was fine since were tired from the long drive. However there were several issues with that room, something sticky on the bathroom floor and there was a wet spot (looks like a big pee spot) on the bed covered up by a small pillow. Instead of fixing the problems, the housekeeping asked if one of our girls made the mess on the bed. After being on the road for over 10 hours, instead of finding a clean comfortable room to relax, this is the last thing we were expecting from a top tier hotel. They finally got somebody to change the sheets and pillows and cleaned the floor. Our executive suite was finally ready and we dropped off our luggages and tried to get some sleep. The bedroom’s air conditioning didn’t work so there’s no circulation at all. So I had to call down to the front desk and ask for somebody to come and fix it. Long story short, they couldn’t fix it so in the end they gave us a big loud fan to use during our stay. The restaurant downstairs was nice and very accommodating and the location of the hotel is great, but in the end it was how the front desk staff/manager acted when we were checking out that completely turned us off for any future stay. My sister-in-law’s LV luggage got damaged somehow between our suv and our rooms. When my husband first called down to the front desk the guy said that they’re very sorry and will replace the luggage for her. However when he told them it’s a LV carryon bag, they demanded a receipt. When we explain that the bag was purchased over 5 years ago and we’re on vacation so it’s not possible for us to get that info right away. Then at the check out the manager claims that they went into our suv and took pictures of the trunk and there were pieces of the luggage there. Even though we used hotel valet parking, it’s not legal for them to go into our suv without permission. It’s really a shame since we’ve been Kimpton members for a long time. We stayed at Monaco last time and had a wonderful time. Now another hotel is just across the street we’ll probably stay there next time in Seattle. Read less

Carly was warm, competent, and very helpful. After dinner I enjoyed a drink at the book room bar (not sure that’s the right name) which is a cool, small bar/lounge in the lobby. Their specialty is bourbon and whiskey - the bartender knew a ton and it was great to talk with him. Room was nice - plenty of space. Great location! Will definitely stay here again next time I’m in Seattle. Read less
