The hotel

Stay in the heart of it all at the W Austin, as unique, fun, and welcoming as the city itself. Conveniently situated in Downtown Austin, and just moments from the world-famous Austin City Limits, this hotel expertly blends modern decor with cosy touches, and plenty of southern charm! In the local area, you'll find an abundance of lively bars and eateries, but you can feel the buzz of the 'Live Music Capital of the World' right here in your hotel, too - the Record Room, part of the hotels dynamic Living Room bar area, is an ode to the city, and the TRACE restaurant serves authentic Texan flavour, made with local produce. What's more, the W is home to Austin's largest happy hour, accompanied by the sounds of DJs, and the occasional live performance. Fitness fanatics can keep up their routines at FIT, and sun-seekers can enjoy the heat at the WET deck. A true all-rounder, and an exciting place to lay your hat.

0/10 bed and bedding, chunky and extremely warm down mattress and the worst pillows. Valet damaged my car on the first night of my three night stay. Only had house keeping on the first day had to request additional towels and toiletries. Good gym but shared by residents.

When I visited last year I was totally blown away out how nice it was downstairs and what a great venue to socialise in. I can only imagine it’s going to be out of this world with the new renovations. The staff here are efficient, welcoming and professional. Highly recommend to anyone considering staying, plus it’s in a great location. Read less

He said it was closed to everyone. Pretty disappointed to pay this much for a small room and no other amenities. . Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Scammed out of 50K Marriott Points by the W Austin’s Refusal to Honor A Points Reso Availability on Marriott Website

Last night, I was scammed out of over 50,000 hard-earned Marriott points by false advertising by or on behalf of the W Austin on Marriott’s website (screenshots with timestamps attached as proof). Specifically, I was scammed out of these points by W Austin’s refusal to honor the currently advertised points availability on the Marriott website for the hotel of 304,000 points for Oct. 18-23. This caused me to cancel an existing Marriott points reservation at the Aloft Austin, which Marriott then would not give me back at the original points level and demanded over 50,000 points more to reboook. To add insult in injury, the false advertising is still up on the Marriott website this morning showing you can book the W Austin for 304,000 points from October 18-23. Except when you try to book it the website will not let you. I am a Lifetime Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member with 1,547 nights stayed and 18 years as Platinum or higher. Last evening I had the most disappointing and upsetting experience I had ever had in my 30 years of being a loyal Marriott client. In a nutshell, the W Austin and Marriott refused to stand behind their website’s statements that I could book W Austin for 304,000 points between Oct. 18-23 (Formula 1 one weekend) which had caused me to cancel a long-standing points reservation at the Austin Aloft for 180,000 points so I would have the 304,000 points to book the W. I had to cancel my existing reservation because the Marriott website will not let you book a new points reservation, unless you have a sufficient amount of points in your account to afford the new reservation’s points amount. After being unable to book the W Austin for the advertised points, I called the Marriott Titanium line naïvely thinking they would fix the problem without any issues given my 30 year history of complete loyalty to the brand and investment of probably several hundred thousand dollars of hotel bookings over the course of a lifetime. Sadly I was mistaken. Marriott’s Titanium line told me that the W Austin REFUSED to honor the Marriott website’s statements that the rooms were available on those dates for 304K points. So then I asked them to simply reinstate my reservation at the Aloft for 130k points which I had just canceled so I would have the necessary 304k points to book the W. (Note that when I made the call to the line I misremembered that the Aloft reso cost me 130K points when it actually cost me 180K points which I confirmed this morning when I found my April 2023 booking email but the point remains. I am out the 50K points because of the false advertising and the refusal then rebook me at the Aloft at the original points amount.) The Marriott Titanium line refused and told me the Aloft would now cost me 236K points. 50K points MORE - based entirely on W Austin’s/Marriott’s own wrong information on their website. Even after escalating to a supervisor on the Titanium Elite line Marriott and the W Austin refused to stand behind their website’s advertised points offer of 304k points for the W. Nor would Marriott credit my account back the difference between the 180K points for the Aloft reso I had booked and canceled based on the website’s offer and the 236k points they are now charging for those same dates at the Aloft. This is no way to treat a lifetime customer. And to not stand behind their own website’s advertised price to make this right is unconscionable. W Austin and Marriott you should be ashamed of yourselves. Moreover, this is a blatant violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Unbelievable. The lesson is the website is false advertising and the W Austin and Marriott refuses to stand behind their representations in their advertisement. I am owned an apology by both. I have no problem with their hotels not being willing to accept points on peak weekends, but then the website can’t say that they are accepting points for those dates. And they absolutely have to stand behind what the website says. Not doing so is false advertising. Screenshots to prove what occurred.. Showing the advertised availability of these hotels with points, and then the refusal to book them. And the new dramatically higher points price for the Aloft. The W Austin has only one legally correct choice and that is to honor the reservation at 304,000 points. Screenshot taken just a few minutes ago shows they are still advertising the “Wonderful Room” for this price for those exact dates of Oct 18-23, 2023. Note that the same advertising practice occurred for the Marriott Austin downtown, which also refused to honor the advertised 304,000 points for these dates , which I tried after failing at the W.
