Fairmont Dallas

Dallas, Texas

Virgin rating

The hotel

A jewel in the downtown Arts District, Fairmont Dallas takes centre stage among cultural gems like The Dallas Museum of Art, symphony hall, and AT&T Performing Arts Center. Mixing the classic glamour you’d expect from a Fairmont, with that ‘larger-than-life’ Texas spirit, you'll find a Junior Olympic-size pool (with poolside dining in summer months), a lobby-level Starbucks, and the farm-fresh menu of Pyramid Restaurant, where the honey is even fresher — coming straight from the beehives in the hotel’s rooftop veg garden.

Isaiah, Nate, Tada, LP, Chaz and Moe worked so hard this weekend for the entire PMG team that was in town. They were constantly working running to and from cars and were so nice to work with. They were friendly and professional!

After a hiatus of almost three years (the pandemic, you know), we returned to the Fairmont Dallas on our annual Dallas visit to the downtown Neiman Marcus for lunch in the Zodiac Room and to enjoy the various Dallas museums. We found the Dallas Fairmont changed, not necessarily because of the acquisition of Fairmont by All-Accor Hotels. First of all, two of the excellent hotel staff are no longer there - Aida Kapetanovich, the excellent and amiable breakfast hostess, has retired and Tony Bennett, the legendary front entrance doorman, who, we sadly learned, passed away two years ago. We returned with high expectations, but, sadly, our visit came up short. First of all, no Keurig regular coffee pods in the room and, when we went to the front desk, all they could come up with was a single coffee pod. Coffee rationing at a Fairmont? Secondly, looking over the room, upon entering, we found that the two individual canisters of Pringles on the snack tray were open with one canister empty and the other one with three chips left! Obviously, housekeeping needs to play closer attention. In the bathroom, amenities have been replaced with pump dispensers which, while praised as a nod to the environment, seems more a cost-cutting All-Accor "innovation." The bathtub was slippery with no rubber bathmat provided. Our first night was disrupted by a yapping small dog left unattended in the room next to ours. The daily breakfast buffet which we had booked with our Junior Suite room is no longer served on weekdays but only on weekends. The dinner menu in the hotel's Pyramid Room Restaurant is no longer worthy of special occasions like birthday or anniversary dinners. The promised welcome drink to All-Accor members was not offered. It was always offered at the Ibis All-Accor budget hotels during our recent European trip in May. A bright spot, though, was Brooklynne, one of the bar/dining room hostesses, who made it a point to always ask whether we needed anything. All in all, it was not a five-star hotel stay, and I am still wondering whether my present four-star rating is based on very pleasant past experiences rather than on our latest stay. We were told that the hotel will be soon undergoing a refit. Read less

Dined at the Pyramid for breakfast and ShuBham was my server. He was excellent! He poured my coffee quickly and brought out my breakfast in a timely manner. He was attentive and genuinely friendly and pleasant.

The property has an old money charm, but the rooms and business processes desperately need some modernization. Starting with the room, the desk has no accessible outlet for laptop work and glass makes using a mouse impossible. I had to move the very heavy desk just to be able to access a very old outlet behind the TV. There were a couple outlets on the nightstand lamp but USB would be better for charging. The phone in the room was from the 90s. The in room snacks were either missing entirely or already opened, eaten, and returned unknowingly (for example, I had an entirely empty can of Pringles). The bathrooms were also pretty dated, though I did enjoy the le labo toiletries which were one of the redeeming offerings. I ordered door dash around 1 because room service was closed until 4, but the delivery driver was not allowed up to the room. This is the first hotel I've stayed at that had that policy and I found it very interesting. How do you expect to attract younger clientele that is used to having this type of convenience, especially when your room service is not available? The doorman mentioned they don't let "questionable" delivery drivers on the floors, but it just seems weird because are DoorDash drivers really a threat? Overall, I wouldn't return. Read less
