Location was great but the girl checking us in wasn't friendly at all - very cold and very matter-of-fact, seemed to be bored by us. We didn't feel welcome. I've been staying at a lof of Sofitels, but this one was under par. Rooms are darkish but clean. Toilet didn't flush - maintenance had to fix it. Housekeeping was friendly and accurate. We found this hotel to be an exceptionally good place to stay in DC. The location was perfect the room was beautiful and the breakfast was really fantastic. What sets this hotel apart is the friendliness and helpfulness of all of the staff. Claudia who arranged our stay, Ines who.looked after us when our bags were delayed, and Hayden with his encyclopaedic knowledge of the city, were all fantastic; and Freedie who looked after us in the Opaline for breakfast, and Mahmoud who took care of us at the front door, were just great too. We will definitely come back here if we are in DC again. Thanks to all at Sofitel for making our stay in Washington such a memorable one. 10 out of 10! Read less

The Good: Beautiful hotel! Great location! Subperb service! The Bad: The double-bed rooms have full-sized beds. These beds are really firm. Zero comfort! This is the first time I have experienced such terrible sleeping accommodations at an 5-star star hotel.

We have been to DC many times to visit our children and grandson. Usually we are closer to the Zoo but wanted to be near the Whits House this time . Have stayed at the Sofitel in the past and loved the atmosphere and location . We enjoyed the spacious room bottle of wine and gym amnesties. Our room was lovely. Updated and just right .

This was our first time in Washington DC and I had spent many hours trying to decide where to stay. I hit jackpot with The Sofitel the location couldn’t have been better even after a long day walking our feet off around the sites it was never a slog. Also for those journeys further afield the Metro station was just around the corner. We were upgraded to a beautiful room and the staff were very accommodating of all my questions. Not all of our luggage managed the journey from Heathrow to DC and the staff helped out with the best places to get emergency supplies until BA played catchup with our bag. Bar staff were great fun and recommended cocktails which suited our palette. All in all a great experience and would have no hesitation in returning both to DC and Sofitel. Read less
