Phoenix Park Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

Its stately setting on Capitol Hill is just the start of the ‘grandeur’ you can expect at Phoenix Park Hotel. An historic property that’s been treated to a $8 million makeover, it has all the sharp styling you’d expect from a hotel right at the heart of this modern metropolis, just a block from Union Station and a stroll from the top sights and shopping. The splendour starts the minute you step inside, with its elegant lobby dressed in mossy greens, uplifting blues, and the sparkle of its shimmering floor, chandeliers, and gold-daubed sweeping staircase. The dining here is more rousing than refined though – with its snug Irish pub, The Dubliner, outfitted with bottle-green walls and emerald leather bar stools, and bringing you all the classics, including fish and chips, Irish Beef Stew, Guinness, and even the odd Irish ‘jig’.

Amazing service and willingness to help! COVID threw so many challenges our way for our son’s wedding and Cat at phoenix Park was incredibly accommodating. Her response to our needs was more “human” than “corporate” which made us love this hotel even more. We look forward to coming back to Phoenix Park in the future. Thank you!

My long-distance girlfriend and I were seeing each other after a nine-month hiatus and we found this property to be affordable, close to the city center, and near a wide variety of public transportation. After arriving from DCA through an Uber and walking into the lobby, we were attended to immediately by Derrick at the front desk. He was very friendly, helped suggest a few places to go, and even managed to get us a room with a view. We were up and in our room in less than 5 minutes. On a side note, the elevator announced where it was going and what floor we were stopping on, which is very convenient to us as we are visually impaired. The rooms themselves are a bit small, but laid out in such a way where they use all the space available. Each room has a coat rack closet, a mini-fridge, a desk, an ottoman, a TV, a lounge chair, and an end table. Everything about the room has a modern feel to it with rich, blue accents and black and white marble counters. We made use of the entire room and then some. Our requests for extra amenities were met so quickly they were practically walking behind us. Even when it was time for us to leave, the staff went above and beyond and let us stay an extra few hours to freshen up before our flight. All in all, we literally couldn't have asked for a better place to stay - especially for the price and the location. When our paths cross again and we end up in the nation's capital once more, the Phoenix Park Hotel will definitely be at the top of our list. Read less

Me and my wife had the opportunity to stay at Phoenix Park Hotel on the last week of December 2019, for about 5 days. We were coming in from NYC, where we had spent 7 days, and needed a change of pace. The bus left us at Union Station, we got out onto the sidewalk, and walked a mere 2 minutes to get to Phoenix Park. The entrance itself is gorgeous. The staff wonderfully greeted us, the bellhop took our luggage, and we were inside our room on the 4th floor within 5 minutes. From what we could see, there were at least 2 quick elevators next to the lobby. The room was good enough for both of us, a little cramped in terms of walking space. Great TV with cable, A/C, beautiful furniture, great bathroom, and from our window we could look out at Union Station on the left and the Capitol on the right. There was a small problem with the shower head, we called it in, and it was fixed while we were away. The closet had bathrobes for us, just in case, as well as hair dryer, iron, plenty of shelves, etc. Union Station (1 minute walk) has plenty of stores, including restaurants, all good stuff. 10 minutes away there's a WalMart if you need to buy anything. There's also a pastry shop on the block. The walk to the Capitol can be done in about 15-20 minutes, but if you're going to the National Mall, monuments and museums, the Red DC Circulator ($1 bus) stop is 1 minute away as well. Just ask at the lobby and they'll guide you in the right direction. The bus will get you to one edge of the National Mall in about 5 minutes, starting with the Capitol section, or go around it, and get to Lincoln Memorial in about 15 minutes. From the lobby, you can go through the building into the Dubliner Pub, where you can have Irish meals, beer, maybe listen to some music (live?), all-in-all a great experience. Check out was also extremely fast. At the end of our trip, we walked 1 minutes to Union Station, where we took the MARC train to the Baltimore airport (BWI), which follows a tight schedule, if you need to be assured that you'll get somewhere in time. Great hotel experience, will repeat! Read less

Hotel staff were amazingly helpful and pleasant to interact with. The rooms were modern elegant and clean. The hotel was in walking distance of my office, the capital, the train station. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip. Read less
