Phoenix Park Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

Its stately setting on Capitol Hill is just the start of the ‘grandeur’ you can expect at Phoenix Park Hotel. An historic property that’s been treated to a $8 million makeover, it has all the sharp styling you’d expect from a hotel right at the heart of this modern metropolis, just a block from Union Station and a stroll from the top sights and shopping. The splendour starts the minute you step inside, with its elegant lobby dressed in mossy greens, uplifting blues, and the sparkle of its shimmering floor, chandeliers, and gold-daubed sweeping staircase. The dining here is more rousing than refined though – with its snug Irish pub, The Dubliner, outfitted with bottle-green walls and emerald leather bar stools, and bringing you all the classics, including fish and chips, Irish Beef Stew, Guinness, and even the odd Irish ‘jig’.

On top of that, the incredible customer service of Derrick Strickland is unparalleled. I am starting law school in the Fall and my wife and I traveled to DC for a quick trip as The choice had come down to Georgetown and one other school (spoiler alert: we fell in love with the city and will be Washingtonians in a few short months!) Derrick was the perfect host, even emailing us while we were out walking to let us know which museums are open. Legitimately a perfect stay. Thank you Derrick and Phoenix Park. Just had an amazing, much-needed girls’ trip at the Phoenix Hotel that did not disappoint. The staff was amazing, the hotel was immaculately cleaned and relaxing. Even the coffee was delicious. And nothing better than lunch at the Dubliner before heading out. Can’t wait to go back!

Our room was very clean, the bed and sheets comfortable and quiet (even though we were by the elevator). The location was decent. However, to make up for not being as walkable to the monuments as we could have liked, the hotel is literally right across the street from all the buses and easily accessible to taxis and rides. You could see the state capitol building from the window. Overall, well worth the money and would recommend. Read less
