Phoenix Park Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

Its stately setting on Capitol Hill is just the start of the ‘grandeur’ you can expect at Phoenix Park Hotel. An historic property that’s been treated to a $8 million makeover, it has all the sharp styling you’d expect from a hotel right at the heart of this modern metropolis, just a block from Union Station and a stroll from the top sights and shopping. The splendour starts the minute you step inside, with its elegant lobby dressed in mossy greens, uplifting blues, and the sparkle of its shimmering floor, chandeliers, and gold-daubed sweeping staircase. The dining here is more rousing than refined though – with its snug Irish pub, The Dubliner, outfitted with bottle-green walls and emerald leather bar stools, and bringing you all the classics, including fish and chips, Irish Beef Stew, Guinness, and even the odd Irish ‘jig’.

Cat and Janice are awesome in booking the 15 to 20 rooms each year. Ana and the front desk staff make check in a breeze, and Jerry and the rest of the Staff are wonderful and treat us like family. They look forward to our return every year. The location, updated rooms, and reasonable rates will keep us returning every year. Read less

The lady at the front desk was great. We loved that you could walk everywhere and to Union station. Hotel is very clean and is in a safe area. Bed mattress nice and comfortable. Highly recommended for a quick stay.

The hotel is in a great location. Just blocks from the Capitol and Union Station. The staff is SO nice here and very accommodating. Our room was nicely situated and the beds were very comfortable. Loved the Beekman amenities in the bathroom. Along with the amenities they included earplugs. Quite handy if the weather is nice and your room is on the same side as The Dubliner. We were on the eighth floor and honestly it wasn't bad. Dont let that deter you from staying here. We did get room service for breakfast. It was delicious and came from the Dubliner as well. Will definitely stay here again In the big city of DC, the service and friendliness of the staff made this mothers day weekend celebration with my daughter a very memorable one. If you are driving, they do provide valet parking. I would suggest staying on the same block and parking at a local garage at $22 a day vs $57.00. I love valet parking mind you, but it was worth saving some to spend some money on room service for breakfast! The only suggestion I would make, is that they offer in room coffee/tea makers. Chose the Phoenix because of its close proximity to union station etc. Booked through hotel.com and my reservation wasn’t showing. Called the hotel and got a desk agent (Vanessa maybe?) who was very short with me and spoke to me like I couldn’t know what I was talking about (I have 18 years of experience in 5 star high end hotels). Consequently I called hotel.com to cancel because they didn’t have my cc. Hotel.com said they couldn’t cancel & I decided I would honor my commitment. Called on the day of arrival and at first Sharon couldn’t find my reservation BUT she is a WONDERFUL person & Kept digging while assuring me she would take care of me regardless. She found it finally. We arrived at 9 pm and she made us feel WARMLY welcome and the doorman did everything he could to help us (his name started with a J I believe??). Good fish and chips in the Dubliner. (Comp guiness from Sharon) Good service but a bit loud as definitely a Saturday night hang out. Beds were VERY comfy and nice big windows. Lights in street were VERY bright and they have tried to mitigate with double blinds but would suggest curtains. Did I say the beds were VERY comfy? Free coffee in a coffee machine in am but quite good and cappuccino options and nice and hot and I am kind of picky @ coffee. Sharon was back on in the am and just as warm and kind and welcoming. SERIOUSLY hotel management keep offering her more $$ until she is a manager. She is your one man Marketing team. If I was in hotels in DC I would ABSOLUTELY steal her. Also the am doorman Amare was very sweet. SO I know this is a long comment but other then the woman I first spoke to you have a great little hotel and Sharon needs to be a manager and train the other staff. Sharon absolutely converted me. Across from Union Station & a trolley stop. Corner Bakery close by. Room is good for 2 people, otherwise tight. No bureau. 2 small drawers built into the single closet. Shower stall was spacious. Shower head has a hand held.
