Phoenix Park Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

Its stately setting on Capitol Hill is just the start of the ‘grandeur’ you can expect at Phoenix Park Hotel. An historic property that’s been treated to a $8 million makeover, it has all the sharp styling you’d expect from a hotel right at the heart of this modern metropolis, just a block from Union Station and a stroll from the top sights and shopping. The splendour starts the minute you step inside, with its elegant lobby dressed in mossy greens, uplifting blues, and the sparkle of its shimmering floor, chandeliers, and gold-daubed sweeping staircase. The dining here is more rousing than refined though – with its snug Irish pub, The Dubliner, outfitted with bottle-green walls and emerald leather bar stools, and bringing you all the classics, including fish and chips, Irish Beef Stew, Guinness, and even the odd Irish ‘jig’.

Here for business meetings the hotel is located close for Union station travels. It's also close to the US Capitol where I had meetings. The Dubliner bar was extremely busy so I went elsewhere. The service was outstanding and my room was comfortable. You do need to get used to the traffic around the area.

The staff of the hotel is really nice! The front desk lady even congratulated me on my birthday when we arrived. The beds are comfortable and the shower is very good. The room was very clean! I was however surprised by the smallness of our room which is sold for up to 4 people but has barely the place for two luggage and a few dresses in the tiny wardrobe. Luckily we were only 2, but if we had been 4 guests, I don't know what we could have done with our stuff! I was also very surprised that there was no table in the room. I think it is the very first hotel in my life where I did not find one, and had to sit on the bed with my laptop... hence my mitigated judgement about the hotel. But thanks to the staff anyway, they have been really nice to us! Read less

It’s beautifully appointed with comfortable beds and conveniently located by Union Station and the Capitol. Brenda will greet you at the front desk and make you feel very welcome. I’ve stayed here many times over the years, and I always prefer the Phoenix Park to some of the bigger names in DC because they go all out to exceed expectations. Treat yourself and ask for the Clare Suite. Read less

This was my first stay at the Phoenix Park, and I expect it won’t be my last. The location was perfect, essentially across the street from Union Station on one side and Capitol Hill on the other. This was my first stay at the Phoenix Park, and I expect it won’t be my last. The location was perfect, essentially across the street from Union Station on one side and Capitol Hill on the other. The folks at the check in desk could not have been more friendly or efficient. I arrived in the morning and they held my luggage till my room was ready, as I headed out for the day. They upgraded my room, so I ended up in a spectacular suite, with a gas fireplace, marble walls, sitting area and separate work room, as well as a spacious bedroom. Everything was spotlessly clean. My only quibble, and it’s a minor one, was it took a few minutes to figure out the shower controls. It was unlike any hotel shower I’d ever seen before, and it absolutely was not intuitive. Once figured out it was a great shower. I look forward to a future stay at Phoenix Park. Read less

We knew we could book a pricier place but wanted to stay within our budget yet know we were in a safe and easy spot close to the sites we wanted to see. This hotel met the demands. I should have known that when they give you ear plugs in your room that the noise on the front of the hotel might be bad sometimes in the early morning......mostly sirens.....but that went away quickly and we returned to sleep. Great coffee service on the second floor each morning. There is also a Corner Bakery 2 doors down to help with any meal need you might have. If you want a friendly and easy place to stay in Washington stay here. Read less
