Phoenix Park Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

Its stately setting on Capitol Hill is just the start of the ‘grandeur’ you can expect at Phoenix Park Hotel. An historic property that’s been treated to a $8 million makeover, it has all the sharp styling you’d expect from a hotel right at the heart of this modern metropolis, just a block from Union Station and a stroll from the top sights and shopping. The splendour starts the minute you step inside, with its elegant lobby dressed in mossy greens, uplifting blues, and the sparkle of its shimmering floor, chandeliers, and gold-daubed sweeping staircase. The dining here is more rousing than refined though – with its snug Irish pub, The Dubliner, outfitted with bottle-green walls and emerald leather bar stools, and bringing you all the classics, including fish and chips, Irish Beef Stew, Guinness, and even the odd Irish ‘jig’.

This is a very nice historic hotel. DC pictures, photos hung around the hotel. Style is conservative, nice shades of blue and white, clean and reserved style - it is DC. Even has the old mail slot - not functioning but neat to see - others have posted pics of it here too. Hotel is close to the Capital, can see it and walk to it - think it's 15… Read more
This is a very nice historic hotel. DC pictures, photos hung around the hotel. Style is conservative, nice shades of blue and white, clean and reserved style - it is DC. Even has the old mail slot - not functioning but neat to see - others have posted pics of it here too. Hotel is close to the Capital, can see it and walk to it - think it's 15 mins? We drove everywhere. Def closer to Union Station - 5 mins walk so got some options for food and some shopping as well and if you need to catch a train. There is an Irish restaurant downstairs. Very nice restaurant staff there, gave me coffee and hot water by request, went downstairs to get it. Also few other restaurants around the hotel if you like to check out other places. There is free morning coffee and tea service available on the 2nd floor. One machine for "fancier" lattes and mochas, etc and to get hot water though so little wait. They do have 2 large pots of regular coffee. Suggestion - should have one pot of hot water. Valet parking is available - $59 and yes on the 24 hr clock. Call for it - 15-20 mins before you need it. Got a nice king size room - was upgraded by Expedia cause I been traveling a lot lately is my guess. Cost for the room was decent actually considering we stayed over the Labor Day weekend. Bed was comfy, clean, bathroom had nice toiletries and even ear plugs if you are not used to city noises. decent water pressure. I look at caulking! nice clean, no rust, mildewy things either! =) Housekeeping staff were nice and accommodating - didn't need room cleaning but very nice when we asked for extra supplies. Check in staff was also nice, professional and efficient check in, same for check out staff. What we also liked and appreciated was being greeted every time we passed by the front desk, whether it was good morning, have a nice day, welcome back etc. All staff were exceptional EXCEPT for one lady who did not even bother to look up from the screen to acknowledge us. this ONE lady that one evening when we returned from dinner was the exception sadly. It's funny cause if everyone was the same then yeh we'll blow it off as that is the culture but EVERYONE was super nice EXCEPT for one so that stands out in service (General Manager can PM me if you want more details) Overall we had a nice stay and we really like the hotel. Friendly staff and an excellent location, close to all the capital has to offer and walking distance to the national mall and capital hill. The Dubliner pub was excellent, ate in there every night and had breakfast on one morning, good food, good staff and a bit of craic with the Irish lads working in there was good fun. Only downside for me was our room 315 had a terrible rattling sound going on 24/7 so much so the whole wall and wall mounted TV shook from whatever was causing the issue.. We didn't bother asking to move as we were out all day everyday and so shattered managed to sleep through it most of the time, but it was annoying. The rattle apart the room was clean, well appointed and comfortable. Would certainly recommend the place and DC is a fabulous city. Read less

We parked at Union Station and pulled our luggage the short walk to the hotel, and then back to catch our train in the morning. The ladies at the desk and the nice man who dealt with parking were fantastic! Finding the back entrance to Union Station Parking was a challenge with the main entrance closed, but the gentleman there gave us perfect directions. Everyone was really pleasant and helpful! We had dinner and breakfast at the attached restaurant, The Dubliner, and enjoyed if for both. This hotel is a really good choice for train travel but also as a base to see the sites in DC since so much of it is in walking distance. Read less

The Phoenix Park is THE hotel to stay in when traveling to DC. Close to the US Capitol and Library of Congress, Union Station, National Gallery of Art, the Newseum and the NOMA district. The hotel has a luxurious, European feel from the moment you enter. Staff is professional and understated. The elevators are fast and efficient. The rooms are fresh and airy, with big windows and a soothing spa color palate. We stayed in the Capital Suite on the penthouse level. It has floor to ceiling windows on two sides looking north and east. A spacious terrace with table and chairs is perfect for a morning cup of coffee from the Keurig in the galley of the room. There is a full sized dining table with four chairs under a silver vaulted ceiling; a living room with full sofa and comfy upholstered chairs, coffee table and beautiful, modern light fixture to complete the luxe look. The bed is large and super comfortable with nightstands on each side with 3 drawers each. There is a small sitting area in the bedroom as well. The bathroom is huge and finished with the greatest attention to detail and highest quality finishes. Modern fixtures and a walk in glass shower with rainfall shower head make a welcome and refreshing oasis at the end of a day of travel. So glad we decided to stay at the Phoenix Park hotel! Read less
