We had SUCH an amazing time at Marataba Safari Lodge! From the very moment we were collected at OR Tambo Airport to the moment we were dropped back at the end of our stay-the staff and experience at Marataba excelled in every way. I am a mountain guide myself and can be quite particular about service, the feel of a place, the overall experience-all of it. Our guide, Helen was so friendly, warm, interesting, happy & calm. She was so easy to be with for hours on end and went with the flow very well. We have two young daughters (3 &5 year olds) who were also so happy with Helen and the rest of the staff at the lodge. One day we even got to leave the kids at Eco Lodge with Thembi (who was incredible too) which was wonderful so my hubby and I could have some down time which meant time at the spa for me. At Eco Lodge the kids got to jump on the trampoline, play, do artwork and they even got to go out looking for spoor and made plaster of paris paw prints to take home as a momento. We had Room 16-the last one but it wasn't too far a walk at all while being very seculed from other rooms. The room and amenities were perfect. I love the Africology shampoo/conditioner/soaps too...so natural and beautiful. The food was delicious every time. The weather was perfect. The pool was refreshing and warthogs and little buck were feeding on the grasses nearby. I can not fault anything here. The Waterberg Mountain range is SOOOOO gorgeous. They have walking safaris into the ravines here, so I am planning to come back one day for those. Thank you, thank you, thank you Marataba for an EXCELLENT stay. Well done on getting it all right. We can't wait to see you all again. Read less

We had an amazing time last week at Marataba Safari Lodge. The family suites were luxurious and comfortable and the staff were all amazing. The safety protocols in camp were appreciated and we always felt safe while still being able to enjoy a relaxed safari experience. They really know how to ensure families on safari have a special time and we loved that there was the Eco Garden where the kids could be supervised and left to enjoy one of the many planned activities. Helen our guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable and we enjoyed all our time on safari with her. She was also very engaging with our kids which is important. We cannot wait to return again as a family. Read less

Marataba Safari Lodge ticks all the boxes when it comes to family fun in the bush and features all the necessary bells and whistles . Covid protocols followed from the pick u from the airport in a Marataba ve,hicle (all masked) + hand sani before climbing aboard. At the lodge hand sani and masks again with a temp check - documented in a health roster. Vehicles and main areas and rooms are thoroughly sanitised after each use or session, however the protocols never made us feel monitored or detracting from the experience. Especially relevant for our local market - as its mere 3.30 hours drive from Johannesburg. Easy to reach and satisfying to stay Alex Narine Steph and Bianca were all genuinely friendly and ready to make every ask a reality . Food / Dinner on our first was delicious as we celebrated our first safari dinner in over 6 months! With a decadent wine list to boot. The rooms were ample and private , offering every amenity required. Bathroom is open a double room - so 2 singles may find that a bit of a challenge. Game drives were productive and I for one, saw atleast 3 firsts : Brown snake eagle , a Mozambican spitting cobra and a 2 klipspringers! Chuck in some ellies, rhino, giraffe and lots more - it was a treat ! Kim our safari host is an energetic knowledgeable guide and a badass ranger! All in all a great big thank you to the MORE family and the team at Marataba Mountain and Safari Lodge - what a cool drink of water after such a lengthy drought - all the best ! The staff were all welcoming and helpful. The game drives were AMAZING - saw a vast array of animals and the hippo, rhino, lion and elephant sightings were just awesome. Our field guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed our time with him immensely. Overall an amazing experience and we can highly recommend a stay @ Marataba. Read less

The Lodge itself is very special although you don't spend that much time there. I would be worth scheduling in some time to experience the Lodge facilities. Our guide, Mitch, was a star. Every trip was different and felt like a unique experience enhanced by his energy and passion for the Park. There is an element of jeopardy but you are in very safe hands and it all makes for a very memorable experience. Read less
