This is my second time staying at Sunbay Hotel and I can say to my delight that there have been improvements! I stayed in room 313 and the wifi worked great, the shower worked well, both pillows were soft and my balcony light turned on too. I stay here because I really like the staff and find them to be very friendly, accommodating and lovely. The girls at the front desk are consistently amazing! (Both stays) It's hard to find a hotel at this price point that provides a very clean room, friendliness and proximity to some of the best beaches in Barbados. It's the simple things here that I enjoy, just sitting on my balcony and listening to the whistling frogs or watching lizards run around. I will leave a few wishes below and hope the hotel will take it as constructive feedback rather than criticism. Pros: -Very good value for money -Close to great beaches (Miami, Carlisle) -Friendly staff and clean room -Large spacious room -Comfortable and breezy breakfast area -Breakfast included either buffet style or made to order Tips for travellers: -Take a ZR van to Oistens (or Miami Beach) for 3.50 Bbd, ask staff where the bus stop is -Deia Beach is an awesome beach club nearby for all day dining/beaching -Calabash beach bistro is also around the corner for additional dining options -St Lawrence Gap also not far away -go snorkelling at Carlisle Bay or Holetown, right off main beach I saw Hawksbill turtles, sea star, flying gurnards, sea cucumbers, squid, porcupine fish, sand divers, cuttlefish, school of blue tang, all kinds of tropical fish the list goes on (brought own gear) -toilet works either push the handle 4/5 times or wait some time in between for the tank to refill My future wishes: -Breakfast add-ons as an option, I would be more than happy to pay extra for a portion of corned beef hash -consistent fresh fruit at breakfast and a bottle of ketchup -no broken clock in my room -an extra roll of toilet paper -no loud club music at breakfast (it's too early guys) Other than that Barbadians are the most wonderful people on earth and I'm already looking forward to coming back. Thank you Sunbay for accommodating me and providing me an affordable pleasant stay. Read less

Thank you to Sunbay for a wonderful holiday, I can't recommend your hotel highly enough. If you're looking for a base and not expecting the hotel to entertain you then please do read on. The Room: spacious, fantastic air con (*it's a sheet only, no duvet, so we packed socks and joggers just in case), comfortable beds, electronic safe, fridge, kettle (there's a shop at the top of the road or on the way to Dover beach for tea bags and milk), microwave, bath and shower, WiFi and TV (best channels: AMC, syfy, Nick and cartoon network). Style wise, think rustic and charming. Cleaned daily and given fresh towels (*take your own beach towels). The Pool: half is shallow the other half is deep. Plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas for shade. Beautiful grounds, we saw green monkeys in the trees and birds flying between the palm trees building their nests. *Please note there's no pool music and no form of entertainment, this was perfect for us but if you're looking for it then it's probably not the right place for you. The Breakfast: most days I had plantain, baked beans, scrambled eggs, toast, and grilled ham. It's all made to order, hot, fresh and delicious. There were cereals, cakes and fruit but we typically ordered from the menu (bacon, sausages, hash browns, breakfast potatoes and cheese and ham omelettes in various combinations were available). There's also coffee, tea, water and fruit juice (help yourself). *Plastic cups only which I appreciate again may not be for everyone. The Restaurant: Can't add too much as had grilled cheese only (again great). Menu seems fairly limited and closes early. We went when we were too tired to venture out following a day trip. The Staff: all extremely pleasant and very helpful. Our experience was that locals working in the area generally were polite and perhaps seemed a little bit reserved and or abrupt when compared to what you might have experienced in say the US. The Beach: you can walk across the road, the ocean is right there but there aren't any amenities. My suggestion would be either to go to Dover Beach, Miami Beach or Worthing. First two are walkable around 20 or 25 minutes (or you can take bus for 3.50 bajan). Dover is closer to the Gap, lots of restaurants and cocktails bars, Miami is Oistins way and had much calmer and shallower water. All have loungers and umbrellas to rent for 30 bajan (for 2) for the day. The Building: I can appreciate why some may say tired in some areas, I understand being so close to the sea inevitably means the paint work will take a hit. The most important information is that it is clean and cleaned regularly. The reception area seems to have had a revamp and is modern in a navy blue. I should say my expectation was fairly low on booking due to reading some mixed reviews. So grateful I took a leap and booked Sunbay. Will recommend to all friends and family. Read less

Really quiet place great for relaxing. Every morning while we were having coffee by the pool we saw a family of monkeys the kids loved that. A peaceful spot perfect for unwinding. It added an extra special touch to our mornings and made our stay even more memorable.

I traveled in a large group to Barbados for Agrofest this year. The hotel doesn’t matter to us me just need a place to sleep. I was chatting with the General Manager and he asked if I could leave a review so here it is. Fine Hotel. Highly recommended.
