The hotel

Nestled in 10-acres of delightful tropical gardens, the Sunset at the Palms is a sure-fire winner for adults looking for a peaceful and pampering retreat. Stay in exquisite wooden bungalows that sit atop sturdy stilts, so you feel like you’re in a tree house — albeit a luxury one, with polished wood floors, sleek showers with body jets and airy balconies furnished with a relaxing day bed. There are three different dining choices from the extensive International buffet at Palm Grove Restaurant to the creative Caribbean fusion menu at the à la carte Lotus Leaf. Guests rave about the spicy Jamaican ‘Jerk’ chicken that’s served at the Beach Bar and Grill during lunch — don’t miss it! The pool is perfect for lounging in the sun, or it’s a short escorted walk over the road to the celebrated Bloody Bay, a spectacular stretch of white sand beach fringed with picture-perfect palm trees.

I spent a few relaxing days here after my Island round-trip. I liked the fact that this is a small, quiet hotel without big animation-teams, blaring music and masses of drunk-by-noon tourists. I just wanted to relax and this was the perfect place for it. The hotel grounds are lush and green and everything is close together. I loved the food and choice at breakfast with a visit from Bob the cute little cat. The best food was at the Lotus Leaf restaurant. The bar in front of it makes tasty chocolate Martinis! The beach can be reached in a few minutes and I always found a place in the shade. The sunbeds are a bit uncomfortable and could do with an update. Service at the beach is very good, there is a bar and also very clean bathrooms. The pool area is also very nice with plenty of sunbeds and the bathrooms there very nice, modern and bright. Even better than in my room. The rooms are comfortable, with a big bed, a bench and table with chair. There is air con which is needed as some windows have no glass, but a fly-mesh and plantation-shutters. Even though they fog for mosquitoes every 2 days, you do get them in the room and outside in the evenings, so a strong mozzie-spray is essential. The closet for clothes is next to the bathroom, there is a safe, iron and ironing board. What is missing are drawers for underwear and smaller clothing items. I had to leave them in my suitcase for lack of room. The bathroom is a bit dark and could do with more lights. My sink had several cracks in it and was leaking. The shower was big but I never managed to get hot water. I had a lovely massage and had laundry done which came back the same day even though it said it was next day service. It was also not too expensive. The staff are all attentive, nice and helpful with a positive attitude. This is a gem among the mega hotels in Negril! Read less

There are too many to name individually but everyone made us feel special. We all prefer a small hotel and this was perfect .The rustic rooms, excellent food ,perfect setting and we loved listening to Paul playing the piano and joining in with the singing ( he even gave me a couple of lessons when he probably just wanted to go home) thank you Paul. We would love to return one day. Read less

We booked a 4 day trip and added Club Mobay upon arrival at the airport. This is a concierge service to rapidly get you through customs. They offer drinks and a meal as you wait for your driver to arrive. The drive from Montego Bay to Negril does take an hour and a half. Our driver Lloyd Davis did an excellent job of telling us about the island as he drove us. Upon arrival to the Resort, we were greeted and assisted in unloading luggage. We had drinks served as soon as we sat down. The check in was easy but we arrived so early our room wasn’t quite ready. However we were advised we could enjoy the amenities immediately. We walked the resort and enjoyed many beautiful gardens, the pool, spa, gym, dining areas and bars. Once we arrived to our room, we noticed some goats behind our treehouse. We also had a few ants in the bathroom. However as long as food wasn’t left out, there was no bigger issue during our stay. One of our favorite memories was meeting Linton, Cash and Nadine as they worked the pool bar. We really loved chatting with all of them. In fact we continued to look for them every day. It was like seeing family. The hospitality is hands down going to separate this resort from others. We did make our way to the beach, which is across the street. There is a crossing guard waiting to help you across. The beach was gorgeous, clear water, beautiful sunset. The resort also has a bar and food items for you to enjoy on the beach as well. Order away and enjoy the crystal clear waters. The resort also includes non motorized water sports. Such as paddle board, kayaking, etc. Just sign a waiver. There are resort staff on the beach who help you set up on the beach. Helping put out your beach chairs, towels, bringing food, drinks. We were also able to make reservations for the Lotus Garden and the Chefs choice dining halls. The buffet is always an option as well. The pool is open until 1 am as is the bar by the pool. There are garden tours, breakfast with the goats, etc. There is also a piano bar and live music some nights, a bon fire on the beach. Mosquitoes are a big problem, at 5:30pm approximately they defog the premises so it is advised to be indoors while they do it. However the rooms do have lemongrass mint lotion and using this serves as a repellent for the mosquitos. I used it daily and only noticed one bite the entire visit. Read less

Laying on the balcony and watching the hummingbirds fly by under the palm trees, floating in the crystal blue waters on the beach listening to reggae- all irie :) Some tips- Running along the beach to get to 7 mile beach was challenging- had to run on the road and the only resort that would let me cut through to 7 mile was The Boardwalk. Expect to get bitten by sand fleas and sand flies especially if watching sunsets...which were gorgeous! Read less

Spent eight days in this personal paradise having returned home Friday night. Accommodations: Beautiful, lush, flora enhanced paths lead to your treehouse. Eleven steps elevate you to your private oasis. The spaces are rustically designed with high open beam ceilings and a double French door inviting you out to the balcony with a day bed and table and chairs, the environment draped by assorted palms and bamboo. Amenities include robe, slippers, coffee/tea/kettle, iron, shampoo etc. A modern shower with various fixtures. Food: Two words - Chef Michael! Always available and high profile this chef can do it all. From succulent roast beef and chicken to the best Jamaican fare, jerk selections to match any taste including vegetarian offerings, and my personal favourite melt in your mouth curried goat and ackey and saltfish! He offers cooking classes and is not shy about sharing his recipes. Every chef on site demonstrates a true pride in their creations. Service is always with politeness and warm Jamaican charm. Beach: Across the road. The stroll is shorter than the distance between most (if not all) boutique hotel lobbies and their beach. Difference is….you can look to the left and see the crowd at the Riu and Couples and then look at your own spacious strip (after you’ve been escorted to your preferred Sun/shade area and set up with chairs and towels). Both tiki huts and gorgeous shade providing trees (our preference) are available. Beach bathroom is immaculate, air conditioned and ultra modern. A red flag in the sand will get you food and beverage service with a smile. Need anything else? The tranquility of this setting is unparalleled and may not be for everyone. A night with Paul, the piano man (an icon in himself), was our idea of the end to a perfect day. There is a variety of other entertainment offered but as a rule it’s pretty quiet by 11:00 p.m. The resort is ‘fogged’ in the late afternoon with eco friendly spray to keep the mosquitoes at bay however your go to brand of spray is also recommended. Cheers to Ian for creating/enhancing this beautiful destination. ( and you will find him occasionally quietly strolling and perusing the grounds! ) See you all next year. 💝🏝️💝 Read less
