The Ravenala Attitude

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

All-suite and all-inclusive, the Ravenala Attitude is styled in contemporary, colonial and tropical hues. With an open-plan, no boundaries design, the restaurants and bars flow seemlessly towards the pool, gardens and beach beyond. But it’s not all about appearances — it goes deeper. Its ‘Culinary Voyage’ takes you from Asia to Italy in 10 restaurants, eight of which you can sample as part of your All Inclusive package. You can tuck into 'Granmamas' Mauritian fare at Kot Nou, street-food takeaways on the beach at Taba-J, and enjoy the romance of the floating Riviera restaurant. The kids' clubs provide various fun activities, whilst the Sport Village and Boat House offer endless diversions, from kayaking along Rivière Citron to riverbank yoga. And the hotel's ‘Otentik’ concept gives you a true insight into Mauritius, in cookery classes, local music, a self-guided tours app, and a weekly ‘Otentik Bazar’, with all profits from the ‘made in Mauritius’ goodies going to the craftspeople. You can even dine on ‘Otentik Dinners’ with locals in their homes. This charming resort is great for families, with large rooms and a range of activities, whilst couples will love staying in the Executive Beachfront Adult Suites in the adults-only section.

It was me and my friend, we’re both from India and unbelievably some of the staff was racist. The first stop was at the beach after we dropped our bags and we clearly remember the person’s name who took our order - Rajni. She was terribly rude, got our orders wrong and kept mentioning we need to be quick because her shift is ending. The lady in charge of the rooms in our space was rude as well to us. The food was bad and at every meal, no one cleared our tables, helped us with water or cutlery even after multiple reminders. Overall I would say, do not visit this resort. If you’re not from Asia, you might be treated better but even then you won’t like the service not the food. Read less

We stayed here for 7 days for the latter part of our honeymoon in October 2019. The hotel is modern and clean and the staff on the whole are really friendly. It sometimes took a while to get a drink when in the normal restaurant and sometimes relied on the staff you had interacted with previously. Food is standard in the normal restaurant and superb in the specialist restaurants - but you need to book early into your stay! - especially if on your honeymoon as you get a honey moon candlelit dinner which when we went to book was fully booked until our final night where they said they could squeeze us in! I would say it took me longer to settle in than my usual holidays because the welcome tour was later into the stay and places to eat/go were not clear. **One area which needs improvement is the hotel welcome tour: when on this tour it took a very long time as he was doing it in multiple languages all in one. My husband specifically asked the question on whether the sea was ‘safe’ as no guests were wearing sea shoes. The hotel staff responded to say “yes completely safe here because we are a cove within a cove”. This was reassuring but we had to ask (no signs etc.). The people on the beach selling merchandise would come round regularly and advise new guests that walking on the right of the juice hut without shoes was not ok due to urchins/ coral however left of this was completely safe. This was different advice to the hotel but was again reassuring. My last day of my honeymoon I decided to go on an inflatable boat with another couple (this is the furthest left of the beach/juice hut). When getting off the boat I stood on something that was instantly painful. The boat people just said “oh you’ve probably cut yourself on a stone, you’ll be ok”. I sat on the sand and no staff member came to help. My husband walked me to reception but half way there a member of staff stopped us (at the bar by the main restaurant) and told me to sit down whilst she grabbed a doctor. From this point the staff were brilliant!! They got a doctor over and identified I had stood on a stonefish and arranged transfer to the hospital. They were very calming and reassuring and took control: I can’t thank you enough for this! I stayed in hospital the remainder of that day night and the next morning so I could get my flight at 1pm! Arriving back at the hotel, the staff were lovely and I managed to pack to leave all within 1 hour! Unfortunately I missed my honeymoon meal but kuoni went above and beyond to make up for it. When settling my bill, I was disappointed to see the hotel had charged me for the taxi to the hospital (whilst settling/ sorting it in the moment as wasn’t time for an ambulance, they had always planned to charge us). - We had been saying in the hospital how amazing the hotel staff were and how we didn’t have to worry about getting cash for the taxi. Overall, I would recommend this hotel but be weary of the advice given from staff and beach sellers. Also, the lack of advice causes worry that you shouldn’t need on your trip, I.e can I go there, what is that? How does this work. Etc. This was why I couldn’t give 5 stars. Read less

The people are very racist towards the french. Don’t like English people. Very poor food in restaurants. All the same. Rooms are terrible and are damp and have leaks in water pipes. Loads of people upset. Beach is a joke, all rocks. Spent £5000. What a waste of money. Maldives is sooo much better. Don’t waste your hard earned cash
