We have been at Unico several times in the past years. This was the first time that everything actually worked out. There were no major issues or incidents of concern. The facility operated as expected. As Hall of Fame members we were well treated at all levels. The attention to detail at the restaurants and pool areas certainly made you feel welcome and wanted. We feel that the success of this stay was in large part to the great efforts behind the scenes of Jessica from Legendary and our two wonderful butlers, Alexander and Alejandro. The trio seemed to be "ever present" always checking in and ensuring everything was running smoothly. Should you ever have the pleasure of working with them, you will be very happy guests. They are great assets to the operation. Read less

My wife and I made our fourth and sadly final visit to Unico 20'87 in April 2024. We made our first two visits in 2019, and loved it so much that it was the first place we visited after the pandemic. We visited in Nov 2021 and had a wonderful time. This time, we booked an Oceanview room and upon arrival, decided to upgrade to an Oceanfront room in building 1, the northern end of the resort. The room was great and the view spectacular. On the first night of our stay, a party at an event venue unaffiliated with the resort but directly next door played loud, thumping music that vibrated the whole building until 4 a.m. The next morning, I complained to my local host about the noise, and he told me that they don't control that venue but that they had contacted it and learned there was to be another party but that it would be over by 8 p.m. because "Mexicans don't party on Sundays." That night, as we turned in at 11:00, the thumping music was still going on. I called the front desk, and was informed that they couldn't move me because they had no more rooms, and that they could send me ear plugs. The music continued uninterrupted until 6:40 a.m. The next morning, I contacted my travel agent who booked the trip and visited the concierge asking to see the manager and informed both that if I wasn't moved, I was leaving. My local host informed me that they would move me to an Oceanfront room in building 8, the southernmost part of the resort. I requested a refund of the upgrade charge that I had paid for the first two nights of my trip, since I had been unable to sleep in the room they provided me. The resort responded with free use of the hydrotherapy at the spa and a day at a pool cabana, neither of which I considered fair compensation for my troubles. We did enjoy a couple of good meals. Cueva Siete had a nice filet of beef in ashes that was tender and cooked a perfect medium rare as requested and a nice birria. The sushi, pork ribs and tuna tartare at Mura House were good as well. Most of the food was off the mark, however. The cowboy ribeye that was part of an upcharged meal at 2087 was tough, and filets at 2087 and at Mi Carissa were overcooked. Service in the restaurants was pretty good. Miguel was a standout at Mura House. Many times, however, the servers seemed overtaxed. Service at the breakfast buffet was not good. Normally, one is seated and gets coffee and water in a couple of minutes. On several occasions, we had to find a server to get coffee. It seemed like there were enough servers, but they were poorly managed and didn't have their system down. The food at the breakfast buffet is quite good, and the selection is broad. Pool service was inconsistent. Pool attendants, who in the past for a nice tip would bring towels and move your umbrella around as the sun moves were invisible. Drink and dining service at the pool ranged from invisible and poor most of the week to wonderful from Jessica at the end of the week. Our usual routine was to get a cocktail at bar balaam before dressing for dinner. Most days our cocktails were made professionally, shaken well and nicely presented, but on a couple of occasions, the bartender just stirred them in the glass he served them in, even a drink with albumim. That was disappointing and frankly lazy. For drinks after dinner, Ingrid was attentive and friendly and reminded us of how great this resort used to be. Our room was clean, and turndown service was nice. We ordered room service breakfast on our departure date, and it was timely and nice. When we called for a bellman, the phone just rang off the hook. This has been a difficult review to write because this resort used to be close to perfect. I don't know if it is under new management, but something is broken. Management certainly did not make me feel like a valued customer in any way. We won't be going back. Read less
