The trip to the W Maldives was wonderful, overall. The resort is about a 20 minute plane ride from Male and you are welcomed with a whole management team and drink and tour. The service is great and The W lives up to their "Whatever/Whenever" service - when you need something they will deliver whenever you need it. You can call or use WhatsApp (loved this option and mostly used) and they respond very quickly. The reef here is very mature because it is one of the older resorts, so it has had many more years to grow their reef relative to other resorts. We had so many fish and sharks below and around our villa - so beautiful. They have complimentary use snorkel gear, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, football, volleball, ping pong, fooseball, billiards, business center, fitness center, fitness classes. Make sure you take advantage of the 30 minute complimentary photo session, it is fun to get your free print and it also gives you ideas of photos you can try to recreate on your own. There were some things that can be improved though. There were some hiccups in service, but overall the staff there is amazing and really work to make sure you are having a fantastic stay. The biggest disappointment was that we were expecting The W Maldives to have a really cool and energetic vibe since that is what they try to portray to us by calling their resort a "playground" and others in previous years had described such a vibe. At one point they may have been that cool, because they used to have a nightclub - which closed down - but that is not what we experienced. There was good music and there were good drinks and they even gave out free shots at times, but there wasn't a lot of mingling with others guests and everyone was just doing their own thing in the same area. I don't expect it to be like Spring Break in Mexico with sloppy drunkenness, but how is it that hostels can host happy hours and strangers from all different parts of the world can converse and share laughs and conversation, but a luxury resort cannot be this kind of catalyst with all of its resources? The reef and the vibe were what made me choose The W instead of the JW Marriott or spend a little more for Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis. The W has to make sure it makes its differentiating factors clear as others reefs will catch up. They are going into renovation for a few months, so I hope they are that luxury resort I hoped for after they reopen Read less

The property itself was excellent - which some unusual touches such as the beach villas being 2-stories (with a sort of balcony/chill area on the 2nd level). The staff were universally excellent, the food was great - the breakfast buffet was lavish, and even included bottomless champagne. We did a few sea excursions, the guide and staff were excellent once again, and we were lucky enough to see a whale shark (our guide was super helpful helping us get to the shark before the poor critter was mobbed by people on much larger/more crowded boats). We were also very lucky to not just see a few dozen mantas, but they even swam around and with us, seeming both playful and curious. The guide said so many together is unusual, but that generally, mantas are normally spotted on these excursions, so the resort location is good for that. Read less

Maldives has always been in my bucket list to visit. I cancelled once due to covid-19 and finally, I can make it thia time. As Titanium Elite, my partner and I stayed here for 5 nights. As it was a peak season, I was not upgraded to a better room. We arrived in Male around 9 AM and due to peak season and old airports, it takes us very long to get out around 11 AM. Once exit the airport, we was eacorted by W Maldives agent that helped us with the luggage storage, luggage to resort, and the seaplane. Then, we took 15 min ride to seaplane port. We went to the lounge to check-in for the hotel and take a picture. We then fly with seaplane and took us 30 minutes to get there. The view from the seaplane was awesome. Once arrive, we was welcomed by lots of people such as the guest experience manager, etc. Then, we was taken to a tour with buggy by Hassam and dropped us at the room with a room tour. The resort was beautiful and the room was also beautiful. The room was aging 15+ years but let me tell you that it was still good show that they took care of the room well. We stayed at the overwater villa with ocean view. The room that we got assigned a little bit far but still okay as the resort was walkable and we can also requested a buggy ride at anytime. The room was clean with a great view, nice bathroom, a private pool, and private decks. We also was given a bottle of wine, chocolate, and bowl of fruits. The service overall was great and communication thru whatsapp with quick response. Note: recommend to book restuarants for dinner once arrive for all nights stay as sometimes the early one was fully book. I actually had a hard time deciding to stay at St. Regis, Ritz Carlton, W Maldives, and JW Marriott but I was glad to choose W Maldives with its excellent service and great overall corals and ocean life. As Titanium elite, we had free breakfast included and the food choice was great and delicious at Kitchen. I would like to Thanks Siska, Retno, and Celine for the great services. Also, Marian, the one served the fruit and juices. She waa very kind and I had not eaten mangosteen for long time as it was hard to find in USA. They all remembered our names during our stay. Restaurant recommendation: Fire - great restaurant for having grill meat. The food was tasty. Thanks Siska and Sunny for the great service. We had fun while dine here. Fish - great restaurants for seafood. We booked "Ocean to the Table". It is an event we already assigned menu. Let me tell you that it was the best food we had while in Maldives. We had fish ceviche, lobster, fish, raw oyster, and yummy dessert. Thanks to Celine, Retno and Honda for the great service. Also, Celine was my junior who went to the same high school as me. Of all, the most amazing experience during our stay was when my surprise engagement proposal from my boyfriend. He worked with the hotel's staff to make it the best moments for us. Thanks to Jaja, Claire, and Chifan to make this amazing moments for us. I was picked up from the room with my eyes covered by Claire, the Food and Beverage Director and went to this place. (See the picture) where I was proposed. We watched sunset and having dinner here. Best moment of my life. Thanks Chifan to serve us and told us about the story of Maldives and the ocean life. Thank Jaja to arrange this with my boyfriend. Hopefully, to see you again in the future. Throughout our stay, we only have lots of compliments rather than complaints. Small complaints but all the excellent services hide all the complaints that we had. I like to thanks Nadeem to clean our room, Hassam to pick us and drop us at the airports, Robert to guide us for wakeboarding, Chuncky to welcome us, Kity, and Mark. There are some people that I forgot and Thanks to them all. During our stay, we saw lots of ocean life such as Sharks, sting rays, eagle rays, sea turtle, squid, octopus, and range of small fishes. I really recommend to stay here especially after the renovation at the end of April. We will for sure would love to go back here. Read less
