Queen Kapiolani Hotel

Honolulu, Oahu

Virgin rating

The hotel

Named after the beloved wife of Hawaii’s last king, Queen Kapiolani is something of a Waikiki landmark, paying homage to Hawaii’s majestic heritage and unique culture with a modern twist. Overlooking the sandiest stretch of Waikiki Beach, guests can enjoy stunning views of Diamond Head from the balconies of their newly renovated rooms, each and every one of them furnished in breezy Island style. As a change from the beach, laze beside the pool instead, dipping in every now and again to cool off. Although there are restaurants all around you, the hotel’s own Kulana is highly recommended, not just for buffet favourites but for its sweeping panoramic views! Pre-dinner, chill awhile at the Deck Pool, sipping on your favourite cocktail – a Mai Tai perhaps?

We really enjoyed staying at the hotel . We had a corner room that was very spacious ,it was clean and quiet . The staff was friendly and helpful . It's a short walk to the beach and they provide towels and beach chairs . The hotel is located at the quieter end of the beach but there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Do yourself a favor and spend your time, effort, and money else where. I arrived to the hotel and I'm not even out of my car and the valet staff is already telling me I have to park across the street. He wanted me to stay in the car and just leave. I told him I prepaid for valet parking and then he asks for my name, confirms I paid for parking and let's me check in. I check in and there is no friendly nor welcoming greeting. It's as if we were bothering the front desk, by checking in. We get put in a studio room when I booked and paid for a bigger room. They can't switch us to the room I paid for until the next day. There's no sorry, no accountability, nothing. Just, you'll move tomorrow because we are fully booked today. We booked a tour through the hotel website directly Blue Hawaiian - Fly Shuttle and Tours it got canceled but no one informed us. We called the tour number and they are closed til 8:00am, our tour pick up was at 7:10am. I go to the front desk and they say go talk to concierge because they don't deal with that stuff at the front desk. There's this elderly lady who can't find our reservation in her system we gave her our reservation number 4 times. After about 20 minutes she finds us but doesn't know how to process the refund of almost $500. After about 45 minutes she just tells us to come back later because she thunks she needs ti call her manager to help her, but her manger doesnt come in until after 11am. We were standing outside our hotel for about an hour and the tour busses just came and left. They told us to pay $137 to rent a car for 24 hours and do the tour ourselves. No compassion, just blank off and deal with it yourself. You can clearly tell this hotel and I'd even go as far to say most of the Island despises their guests. It's clear they don't like you nor want you there and they get gratification when things don't work out for you. Read less

We arrived at this hotel for the 2nd time in 30 years, we were shown room 1801 which as we walked in we said this is not what we have booked, upon speaking to reception ,we were told that the room was the one booked, after telling the lady we were not happy with the room she did get another member of staff to show us 911. We said said that it was much better so that will be ok, To which , she replied that'll be another $518 plus tax, which we had no choice but to pay. After opting for this we got 1211 same room but higher up. Spoke to our travel agent who said we were correct we had paid £260 more in the 1st place for a room looking 2 ways on a corner, but the hotel says those rooms are junior suites that cost even more, our travel agents are going to take this up with the hotel as the hotels Web site is somewhat misleading. However overall our stay was lovely and we cannot praise enough the room maid we had Mata ,she was marvelous and very capable and helpful in any way. So if you are going to this hotel double check what you are going to get before you go. Read less
