The hotel

Paving the way for the next generation of hotels, Radisson RED Cape Town isn’t just somewhere to bed down – from high-tech touches to sustainable craft cuisine, it’s a lifestyle choice. Daring design and funky features make it just as desirable as its coveted location (in Cape Town’s fashionable V&A Waterfront district and by the sightseeing pick-up point), so you’ll be excused for ‘dining in’, rather than stepping out to your neighbouring bars and restaurants. OUIBar + KTCHN matches the mood of this bold hotel, with its vivid palette, sustainable ingredients, and unpretentious ‘street food’ menu – you can even pre-order on the RED app. The app also connects you with other guests for city tips, but you’ll probably prefer hanging out with them in person at the RED Roof bar and grill, with its rooftop pool, drinks van, and Table Mountain views.

Enjoyed our trip. Disappointed that’s the rooftop bar was closed to a private function 2 nights and during the day, was pointless paying more for a hotel with a pool when you’re not allowed to actually use the pool.
Image of the Tripadvisor rating A hotel that’s trying so hard, it’s trying

This is a hotel that’s trying so hard, it’s trying. I was unable to easily get from taxi door to hotel reception with 3 large bags, on my own. It’s a good 50metre walk. This is a hotel that’s trying so hard, it’s trying. I was unable to easily get from taxi door to hotel reception with 3 large bags, on my own. It’s a good 50metre walk. Restaurant staff stood and watched me struggle. There is no concierge. You have to walk through a large restaurant and through a long corridor to reach the check in desk. Staff are very busy being hip and cool but still cannot provide basic services like locating bags left as room wasn’t ready ( even up to 14.40 - 20 mins before rooms are supposed to be ready) Instead they will try to fob you off with a free gin and tonic- this isn’t a substitute for good hospitality, decent training and the ability to converse with guests instead of each other. Rooms are small, angular, be prepared to hit your legs on the wooden bed base. No bath. No proper bathroom door-a sliding door instead to allow you to hear everything. So no privacy. Sliding door must be shut to access the loo. Walls are paper thin. Room no more than a narrow box with a big window. Downstairs. As you wait for your room to become available, you will be seated in the expansive restaurant- there is no reception area to sit and wait. You have to wait for an Uber /taxi outside on the concrete benches- there is no cover when it’s raining. There are two lifts. They are slow. They service all rooms on 7 floors. They are good practice for your patience. The roof terrace had a private function; on a Friday evening. According to colleague who lives here, private functions on the roof space are common. The hotel clearly doesn’t bother with the punters who pay over 4,000R per night to stay here. Honestly there are no redeeming features about this hotel. Avoid. Read less

I had my breakfast at the “Oui Bar” today. This is a a nice restaurant that is part of the Radisson Red Hotel and it is open to the public very early ( six am). You get a buffet breakfast for a very reasonable price. The staff is friendly and vibrant and they approach you to cater for your extra needs ( e.g, the hot option. The place itself is in… Read more

The place itself is in the Silo district of the V&A waterfront and has a pleasant design. The background music is calming and joyful. People gather, chat and have a nice meal. It is one of the happy places on earth. Read less

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Nice hotel and nice location. Problem of noise just after loadshedding

Nice hotel and nice location. Problem of noise just after loadshedding. Also 2 staff ended in my room for mistakes (one because she entered in the wrong room, and the other one because she came to deliver water that we never ordered). A bit umprofessional
