The hotel

Paving the way for the next generation of hotels, Radisson RED Cape Town isn’t just somewhere to bed down – from high-tech touches to sustainable craft cuisine, it’s a lifestyle choice. Daring design and funky features make it just as desirable as its coveted location (in Cape Town’s fashionable V&A Waterfront district and by the sightseeing pick-up point), so you’ll be excused for ‘dining in’, rather than stepping out to your neighbouring bars and restaurants. OUIBar + KTCHN matches the mood of this bold hotel, with its vivid palette, sustainable ingredients, and unpretentious ‘street food’ menu – you can even pre-order on the RED app. The app also connects you with other guests for city tips, but you’ll probably prefer hanging out with them in person at the RED Roof bar and grill, with its rooftop pool, drinks van, and Table Mountain views.

We have just returned from an 8 night stay here after staying last October. We thought about trying somewhere different but the staff were so lovely last time we decided to return again. It's a great location, the hotel has great facilities and the breakfast offering is fantastic. Housekeeping has also improved since my last feedback. People by from people and Dennis again delivered fantastic service and made us feel so welcome again. He is an asset to the hotel with his professionalism, attentiveness and friendly nature. Hope to see you again. Read less

Great location. Close to the cruise terminal and the waterfront. Felt safe walking around the area including shopping and eating.

Staff couldn’t be more friendly throughout the stay with complimentary drinks on arrival and even tracking down a tiny screwdriver to fix my glasses, nothing was too much trouble. Adding a few other reviews from the past few days. The air conditioner was very ineffective at first (where the setting needed to be 13 degrees to get the room to 24 degrees - I was told it was "user error" to set it the temperature I wanted the room). It then totally broke on my last night, leaving my room 28 degrees in the middle of winter. I was told it was a hotel wide problem, only AFTER asking maintenance to help. The Nespresso machine leaked. Then after spending such a hot night, breakfast service totally failed to serve me. Read less

The location is excellent if you want to be in the Waterfront area: less than 10 minutes' walk to the shopping mall. Staff are very friendly and helpful, but one of our couples was given the wrong room number, then had to wait while a large group checked in. Not what you want after a 3 hour drive. The family room is great for young kids: two bunk beds, each one with a TV and own earphones, plus main TV for the parents. The design of the hotel is very modern - a bit too garish for me, but tastes differ. Our room had a great view of Table Mountain, but unfortunately the motorised blinds never worked properly. One never closed fully, the other always got jammed up and we had to call maintenance each time we wanted to close it. The manual blinds were better but basically required two people to operate to make sure they didn't get stuck. Also had to call maintenance to unclog the shower when we first checked in. The aircon NEVER worked properly. At first it warmed the room up nicely but then never stopped getting warmer until it was too hot and we couldn't reduce the temperature. Called maintenance again, who did manage to make it cooler (by setting a target of 13 degrees, which managed to get the actual temp to 23 degrees). Maintenance kindly explained how it was meant to work (which was exactly what I had been doing) but it never did work as intended. The Nespresso machine was a nice touch, but it leaked, so that the tray with amenities got wet every time. The kettle worked initially, but on the last day, when we really wanted a cup of coffee before going to the airport it failed to work entirely. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but with so many things going wrong, I do have to question how good the maintenance is. More positively, breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of foods in the buffet and the main dish ordered a la carte. So nearly a great experience. I wouldn't say the various problems spoiled the stay entirely, but they're not what we would expect from a brand like the Radisson. Read less
