The hotel

Notable for its impressive tower, this hotel's style has been borrowed from the best ideas of classical architecture. The lobby is particularly impressive with its marble columns, bronze sculptures and huge picture windows leading out on to the pool, surrounded by an attractive terrace with neo-classical colonnade. All rooms command views of the city, Table Mountain, the harbour or the Atlantic Ocean. Stella Cafe and Bar has a Parisian chic vibe indoors, or you can dine al fresco overlooking the pool, with a fantastic selection of South African wines to compliment your chosen dish - an ideal way to wind down after a day of meetings or sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed at the Cullinan 2 weeks ago for 3 days. We had a beautiful stay, my wife always insists that when we visit Cape Town we must stay at The Cullinan. Everything was good when we got there , the only issue my wife and I encountered was when we called the service centre to place our room service orders there was a lady by the name of Sarey(if thats how you spell it)who always sounded annoyed and frustrated when speaking to us after we had to wait a good few minutes for our call to be answered for our room service orders to be taken or when we requested for something. She also kept saying excuse me mam(in a very abrupt tone) because of so much noise and laughter in the background. To us that was very unprofessional and we actually hesitated calling there to get that tone of voice. Other than that we love the Cullinan, and we cannot wait to visit after the the refurbishment. We hope by then the attitude of this staff changes. Read less

I had a very pleasant seven night stay in The Cullinan. Very clean hotel with good breakfast and nice touch having a pianist at breakfast time and at other times in the lobby. There is a regular shuttle bus to the Waterfront Nice well kept pool area but it is small. You also have to remember you are in a busy area with lots of traffic. Unfortunately the pool area is just back from a busy road with endless road noise (sirens, hooting horns etc) Obviously not the hotels fault - just be aware. The rooms are spacious and clean. The most memorable part of my stay was the amazing staff. So friendly, pleasant and helpful. Not only throughout my stay but on arriving home I realised I had left a washbag in my room that contained some of my jewellery. I contacted the hotel and Anthony in particular went to endless trouble to arrange for it to be sent back to Ireland. Margaret was also involved in arranging the return. I highly recommend staying here. Read less

Excellent hotel with friendly helpful staff. Beautiful rooms with stunning view. Great food at breakfast and from room service. Only negative was the problem with phone in room not working - never fixed in spite of fact that manager reported it personally.

Last month, I got to stay at The Cullinan for 6 days as part of a Globus tour called South Africa and Victoria Falls. This was my first time to South Africa and, this hotel got me off to a wonderful start to a fantastic vacation. Check in was easy and, I found the reception staff very helpful. I paid for 2 pre-days on my tour and, then my tour started. It looked like I was going to have to change rooms because of the different reservation. The reception staff was kind enough to change the reservation to where I could stay in the room I was in for the rest of my stay. The hotel has a wonderful cafe and bar named Stella's where a bartender named Mark helped guide me through various South African beers (I believe they had 5 on draft) which I enjoyed trying. It also has a nice restaurant called Peach Tree with an excellent breakfast buffet and a dinner buffet that cost 305 rand. If you don't feel like eating at the hotel restaurant, they offer a free hourly shuttle to Victoria Wharf (the driver was known as Roger Dodger) where you'll find lots of wonderful restaurants like the City Grill which I tried. Also, Victoria Wharf has a supermarket in the basement called Pick and Pay. The hotel is located right across from the Cape Town Convention Center which makes it ideal for anyone attending a convention there. My room was spotless the whole of my stay as well as spacious. I forget if I tried the hotel WiFi. As I have international data and texting, I didn't need to use it. Lastly, I want to point out 1 incredible service they did for me. When I left U.S.A., it was winter time while in South Africa it was summer time. I mention this because I wore a coat to the airport in the U.S.A. and then arrived in Cape Town where it was 87 degrees Fahrenheit (I don't know what that is in Celsius). My coat went into my room closet where unfortunately it remained when I checked out! I didn't realize I'd left my coat behind until I got to Hoedspruitt where I got to go on safari at Makalali Lodge. I spoke with my tour director Taki who got these outstanding folks to find my jacket and courier it to our follow on hotel the Sandtun Sun in Johannesburg. Mega kudos to them for doing this. Overall, I had a wonderful time staying at this hotel and would highly recommend it. The people who work there are outstanding and will work to make sure your stay is a wonderful experience like they did mine. Read less
