The hotel

Set in the historical Constantia Valley, this hotel makes for a relaxing countryside escape whilst still being only 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city. Nine acres of leafy gardens surround two historic buildings, why not grab a map and explore, rent a picnic hamper, or have a go at some lawn games to make the most of these luscious surroundings. When you’re ready for a bit of city life, a daily complimentary shuttle is on hand to whizz you to the waterfront for a bit of shopping, or a bite to eat. The food on hand at the hotel is excellent however, with the aptly name Conservatory serving up a feast for breakfast and a range of top quality dishes when the evenings comes around.

The quality of the food was outstanding and the selection of wines were perfect. We stayed in a deluxe Suite which was very large and had a great outlook on one of the pools. It was never crowded and you could walk freely around the well kept gardens, sometimes seeing a resident turtle amongst the vines. Overall highly recommended as it is not in the City so a more relaxed stay. Overall one of the best Hotels we have stayed in and would recommend anyone who is thinking of going there Read less

One of the finest experiences in a beautiful hotel I have ever had. The welcome with signature iced tea sets the tone of hospitality from the moment we arrived. Check in was smooth and our bags were whisked away by Franklin Myer, who was so much more than a bellman!! We were given much information about the hotel--however, this was our second trip to this magnificent place, so we didn't need a great deal of explanation! Henrica at the front desk is not only an exceptional, compassionate and kind human, she is meticulous in her professionalism and made sure we were helped in any way we needed. I am so sorry that I have forgotten the wonderful woman also at the front desk who arranged for our rental car to be picked up closer to the hotel, rather than returning to the airport --no easy feat The rooms are beautiful, luxuriously appointed and soooo comfortable! Every room looks out onto some spectacular portion of the property, which is a miniature version of Kirstenbosch Gardens. Natural beauty EVERYWHERE. The dining room had been recently remodeled: a treat for the senses. The food is always excellent here. Alice, was our server and she was attentive and welcomed us as valued guests daily. While walking the property on the beautiful paths for a couple of hours, as we were taking photos, a kind gentleman offered to take a photo for us...Johann. Turns out he is the facilities guru of all the Liz McGrath properties. We had a lovely talk with him and told him that because of our first visit in March to Cellars, we had decided to return to South Africa and do the Garden Route, visiting all the Liz McGrath properties. Johann advised on a road that was out due to flooding and saved us a miserable drive. He was so helpful and kind--seems to be rather the hallmark of all the Liz McGrath Hotels! If you have the opportunity to book Cellars, do not hesitate! It's a 20 minute ride to the waterfront --close enough but in the most heavenly location!!! Read less
