The hotel

Set in the historical Constantia Valley, this hotel makes for a relaxing countryside escape whilst still being only 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city. Nine acres of leafy gardens surround two historic buildings, why not grab a map and explore, rent a picnic hamper, or have a go at some lawn games to make the most of these luscious surroundings. When you’re ready for a bit of city life, a daily complimentary shuttle is on hand to whizz you to the waterfront for a bit of shopping, or a bite to eat. The food on hand at the hotel is excellent however, with the aptly name Conservatory serving up a feast for breakfast and a range of top quality dishes when the evenings comes around.

Everything was perfect - friendly, smiling staff, beautiful decor, delicious food (don't miss the High Tea) and a lovely setting, not to mention a VERY comfortable bed. A peaceful oasis set amongst lush vegetation. I highly recommend for a relaxing stay.

The Cellars-Hohenort property is an idyllic picturesque, gorgeous property. We had the privilege to spend a day at the property for a work-related event, from the conferencing facilities to the restaurant/eatery everything was immaculate and such a lovely experience. The day ended with dinner at the Conservatory, from the moment we stepped into the space it felt warm and this was not only from the heated flooring, but the entire team also embraced us with such warmth and care, one could see that they take absolute pride in what they do. Every meal placed in front of us was delicious, I personally had the “Aged Boland Cheese Souffle with Gin Cheese Sauce its was gorgeous soft and bouncy. For mains I indulged in a Traditional Cape Malay Bobotie (just a hearty winter treat) but this one was definitely the perfected OUMA’S version that we all in SA grew up with and loved, as I am a vegetarian, I did the Mushroom and Lentil version (Thank You for the dietary inclusion :-) ) the dish came along with all the traditional sides, it was just beautiful. We didn’t have desert with dinner; however, we did have it with lunch, I did the Passion Fruit Semi-Freddo and 90% of the table tucked into the Buttermilk Mousse both were lovely super creamy on the mousse side and very refreshing on the semi freddo side. The Cellars Hohenort in all its quiet and beautiful grandeur is really a special place that must be seen and experienced by those who appreciate quiet, magical surroundings and a team that really just embraces one from the moment you pass the boom gates. I had the pleasure of experiencing the Cellars-Hohenort’s new High Tea menu. This was coupled with an overnight-stay in one of their Premier Suites. The friendly welcome made a wonderful first impression. Throughout my stay I was impressed by the professional and accommodating attitude of the staff. The hotel and amenities are of a very high standard, as you would expect, luxuriously and tastefully decorated, surrounded by beautiful gardens. One gets the distinct impression of the hotel’s history, which dates back to 1693. The original paintings and all the fresh flowers added to the ambience. The High Tea consisted of 4 courses of delicacies presented in the stylish Greenhouse. We enjoyed classic sandwiches, irresistibly savoury treats and baked scones with all the condiments. We finished with an array of decadent cakes. We enjoyed a glass of MCC, along with a selection of different teas. The preparation and explanations by our waiter was pure theater. A wonderful aspect of the Cellars-Hohenort is that it is a dog friendly establishment, and our furry friends were suitably pampered. The suite was fantastic with numerous luxuries, each individually decorated, generous in size, light, airy and very comfortable. Stunning views! The delicious breakfast was served in the magnificent gardens surrounded by the stunning vistas of the Constantia Valley. My expectations were exceeded by all aspects of this memorable, idyllic experience. A big thank you to all the wonderful staff! Read less
