The Portswood

Cape Town, South Africa

The hotel

Linking location and legendary history, The PortsWood is more than a hotel – it’s the full Cape Town experience. Part of the city’s history, it’s built around the original holding cells for prisoners destined for Robben Island 300 years ago. Today the address is more coveted – and the guests more enthusiastic – thanks to its brilliant spot in the V&A Waterfront, just a few minutes stroll from its famous dining, drinking, and entertainment scene. This fashionable location is a perfect base for exploring the rest of Cape Town. The PortsWood comes with its own attractions too, including chic cosmopolitan styling, an outdoor pool, the elegant Quarter Kitchen Restaurant & Cocktail Bar featuring a Cape Malay menu, and a terrace offering light meals and tipples from the Links Bar.

Close to waterfront tourist area less than a block walk. Rooms are nice enough, comfortable beds/bedding but breakfast buffet 5 star quality. Have shared gym and spa facilities with sister hotel next door. Staff has been very nice and helpful.

It is also in a brilliant location for the open top bus to reach all attractions and visiting Robben Island. The staff here are so helpful and attentive, one amazing member of staff even walked with us to the VA waterfront to show us where the cash point was. All the staff make you feel special and go out of there way to make your stay an enjoyable one. Thank you everyone. Tracy and Simon Read less

We spent 4 nights at this hotel. From the outside, it appeared a little tired but our fears subsided once inside. It is convenient to the V&A Waterfront and has good security. We enjoyed our time there, lovely accommodation, very professional staff and excellent food. Our room service lady was a beam of sunshine, happy and couldn't do enough for… Read more
