First night the room had a horrible, manure like smell. the front desk staff and manager were great and change our room the next morning. The new room had wasp's nests on the balcony (three, large, well-developed nests) so we couldn't use the balcony. We gave this feedback to housekeeping, sales, and front desk on four different occasions, but the nests were not removed during our stay. The service at breakfast was pretty bad. Uninterested staff removed plates and utensils without giving more or asking if we planned to go for seconds. As a result, we had to ask for more utensils every morning. Very slow with the coffee and general lack of attention. We thought maybe it was a one-time thing, but it happened everyday. Pool staff were great ! Read less

The Vineyard Hotel is an absolutely lovely Hotel. It's perfectly located, with an amazing view from the back of the property, where you can sip a cocktail, or have a lovely meal overlooking the well tended gardens and gaze upon Table Mountain. We had a week here in a standard room. We would have liked to have upgraded for a few nights to one of the rooms with a view of Table Mountain, but the hotel was very busy. Having said that we were not in our room much, and it was very spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. The nightly turn down service was excellent too. The hotel's style is a mixture of colonial and modern, blended perfectly. It had a number of eating areas, a lovely coffee shop and a high end restaurant called Myoga. We ate in all of the eating areas and at Myoga. The breakfast was sensational. One of the best buffet breakfasts we've encountered in our years of travel. You can also have al a carte breakfast choices too. We tried one or two of these - all delicious! It is especially nice to be able to eat outside in view of Table Mountain, but these are hard to get seats, even if you are a resident. There is plenty of choice if you are eating at the Hotel either lunchtime or evening. For lunch we preferred to eat by the pool (if we were there!) and in the evening outside. Couldn't fault the food or the service. We did however have a totally disastrous meal at Myoga on my birthday, which was a shame. I will review that separately. The service at the hotel was really very good. The travel desk in particular were utterly amazing - sorting out things very quickly and efficiently. They organised a fantastic day of wine tasting in Stellenbosch via their travel company Jaret Premier. One of the many highlights of our trip. They can also arrange for complimentary transfers to nearby restaurants in Newlands of an evening if you want to eat outside of the hotel (which we did on a number of nights). All of their drivers were friendly, kind and good fun. We didn't get a chance to use the Spa as we had too much organised for our week there, but it looked beautiful and I would certainly make time for it if we get the chance to return. The pool and gym were of a good size and although the sun loungers are very comfortable, they are rather close together - packed in like sardines. That said, we didn't do much sunbathing, but it was nice to pop down there for a few hours and have a cooling swim in the pool. Prices are very reasonable for this level of hotel (added to our excellent UK to Rand exchange currently). Its located on the "other side" of Table Mountain, but it is a fairly quick journey into central Cape Town and the Waterside - however, a word of warning, you do need to pick your times when you want to go there. The traffic in Cape Town is pretty horrendous in rush "hour" which extends for about 4 hours morning and evening. We quickly learnt to avoid this and this made it much easier to deal with! All in all this was a fantastic hotel for us. Sophisticated, elegant and quiet. Excellent service, beautiful surroundings and genuinely lovely staff. Couldn't really fault it. Will we return? Absolutely - we are planning a return trip as soon as we can! Read less

The Vineyard Hotel is one of my favourite meeting spots. It is centrally situated with a tasteful interior and magnificent garden. There are a variety of comfortable options for a meeting. Three restaurants, an outside porch and beautifully appointed lounges. Today we sat in a small sitting room filled with oil paintings, comfortable chairs and couches. It gave me the feeling of being at a gentleman's club of yesteryear. There is something so luxurious about high ceilings and coachman's lanterns, shiny mahogony tables and plush fabrics. We had several meetings one after the other, and the environment complemented the professional image of our business. The staff were not as attentive as we would have liked and we had to walk to the next room to call them but they responded quickly to our needs. The hotel was buzzing nicely with an assortment of patrons, as well as a private lunch in one of the diningrooms for the Ackerman family. A smart but relaxed environment suitable for all kinds of needs, the Vineyard never fails to impress and remains a favourite in my book. Read less

Another favourite is the generous serving when selecting the scones. There is seating both inside the lounge area overlooking the gardens, and outside on the terrace. It should be noted though, that you are not able to book a table so there may be a slight wait at busy times. Nothing better than a scone followed by a walk around the gardens and of course a visit to see the giant tortoise in the adjacent garden. Read less
