We have visited Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, and have to say that Cape Town's Waterfront area is much nicer! It is, obviously much newer, with modern buildings, mixed with historical ones. The restaurants were plentiful, as were the shops, and we felt quite safe walking around the area. Note, please, if possible, go in a group, even though there are security people everywhere. As with any travel destination, keep an eye on your wallet. Read less

When it was time, after we had gone for a beer 5 mins away from the complex. we checked in with no problems. A gentlemen walked us through the complex to the front gate where we had to take a group photo before we were handed our keys. He then took us to our apartment which was in Falconer floor 5. Very chatty and helpful. Our bags shortly followed as they were loaded into a car and driven around the outside of the complex as the walk for us was over bridges over the central canal running through the complex. The apartment was bright, airy and had stunning views! Can not fault the apartment for being self catering it had everything you needed. However we were out most of the day and evenings so I cannot comment too much on the kitchen if you were planning to cook yourselves. Location is a 5 minute walk to the main harbour with the restaurants/bars and shopping. The communal pool was very close to us which also had a gym and a lovely walk along the harbour of the waterfront village. We felt incredibly safe in the complex. Overall this was perfect for our 3 night stay in Cape Town. We could have stayed longer as there is so much to do and great location to do everything. Read less

We spent 4 nights here (out of a total of 21 nights) during what we had planned as a luxury break to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We arrived at 2.15pm and unusually did not receive the expected warm welcome from a rather unhelpful receptionist who told us that our apartment wasn’t ready and to come back at 3.00pm. We returned later and completed check-in but were not provided with any information about Waterfront Village, not even a map as they had run out of them. We found the attitude and unhelpfulness of the receptionist totally out of tune with how staff everywhere else we stayed dealt with us. One of the reception staff took us to our apartment (Helenslee 004) via security (which as others have said takes a bit of time). As we had a car he took us down into the underground car park before heading to the apartment. The thing about arriving by car is that you do not see how to access the place on foot which meant that the first night we left the apartment we didn’t actually know how to get out of the complex. We ended up following other guests to see where they went. The apartment was on the ground floor overlooking the canal and to our surprise we had been allocated a 2 bedroom instead of the 1 bedroom we had booked. The apartment was spacious with a large terrace and steps down to the canal which was great. Our initial impression was that it looked fine but it didn’t take us too long to see that the place was very tired with furniture that had seen better days. The main issues were the sofa and chair in the lounge which had no support and were grubby and stained (we didn’t really even want to sit on them), the bed in the main bedroom and the fact that a number of bulbs were not working. Other issues came to light during our time there. It is such a shame that these issues took the gloss off what had been up until then a spectacular holiday. For the sake of spending a few thousand pounds the place could be brought up to a much higher standard which would benefit everyone in the long run. The potential for making this roomy apartment in a fantastic location into a luxury destination is there. As it is, the owner should be embarrassed to rent this out in the condition that it is in. Village N Life who manage the properties should also have minimum standards that properties need to meet and we feel that they did not do their job on this occasion. We asked to move apartments on the day after we arrived but received a phone call to say that none were available. We contacted our travel agent who also tried to get us moved but we received no further communication at all from local management during our stay. They were totally uninterested in our complaints. On the day we checked-out the guy on reception asked if we had enjoyed our stay. When I said ‘no’ he did not even follow up to find out why. The level of customer service in South Africa is normally extremely high with staff going out of their way to make your stay special. Unfortunately we did not find this at Waterfront Village. Stayed at the Marina using Waterfront Village agent. We booked a Harbour View Apartment . On arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment - Fine. When taken to the Apartment it was 2 bedroom but overlooked the canal - not the marina as requested ! When we challenged the waterfront village staff they said that Agoda had only booked a luxuary apartment and not a deluxe apartment which have marina views. We showed them the hard copy of our booking confirmation stating harbour view but all they said that Agoda was at fault. They finally agreed that we could upgrade to a 2 bedroom marina view apartment but this was not available until day 3 of our stay (11 nights) and would cost an extra 7200 rand. Since we did not want to ruin our stay we agreed and moved to the new apartment when available. This where the hit and miss comes in the first apartment was bare and the furnishing very tired. The secont apartment had art on the walls and better quality furnishing. I think that waterfront village need to get serious about the quality of their apartment and tell the truth about different quality of the apartments they manage. They are not all luxuary as stated by any means and a large number of them are very tired and have not been refurbished in a long time. Waterfront Village just seem to take their management fees and do not care about the clients. We will be staying at the marina again later this year with harbour view - but definitly not with Waterfront Village Read less

We booked the one bedroom luxury apartment for 3 nights. The check in was fairly easy but very lengthy and as the main office is away from the complex we had to drive around, which is fine if you have a vehicle, but I'm sure would take a lot longer if you do not, but I think they do have a transfer bus to transport you too and from the main office. Once we got to the security, we had to wait a while as you need to have your photo taken before they will check you in.Once we were checked in we followed someone who showed us to our parking spot and into our apartment. The apartment was fairly spacious with the kitchen separated off from the dining and living area and the same for the bedroom and bathroom. The Balcony was large and very spacious with a lovely view overlooking the canal and an table with chairs where we did enjoy breakfast one morning. The gentleman that checked us in told us that there were many pools on the property and was able to show us our closest one from our balcony. At night the complex is super quiet and very relaxing and we were able to get a good nights sleep. The furniture inside the apartment was defiantly not new and you could start to see some wear and tear and the shower was defiantly not luxurious, but it did have under floor heating and dimming lights. The location is excellent being on the waterfront it is walking distance to many attractions, restaurants, bars and shopping, we didn't use the car in the 3 nights that we stayed! The complex is very secure, as you need to scan your key pretty much every door that you go through but we did have trouble with the security gates to leave and enter the complex and do need a bit of an update. Due to my flight out being in the evening we asked for a late check out, they told us that we could stay until 2pm for an extra 500 Rand which was really helpful for us and we did take advantage off and we were able to pay that when we checked out. Overall we did enjoy our stay and would recommend this property for the location and its security. Read less
