Thanks to Brando our ranger the game drives were superb, not only seeing the animals, but learning so much about them, the birds and the plants. It was like living in a David Attenborough documentary. We also took a bush walk with Brando and Phil, that was another great experience especially when we came accross a herd of Elephants. The guys were proffessional and kept us safe and more importantley feeling safe at all times. We stayed at the Bush Lodge and loved every minute of it. All of the staff have been amazing and so attentive during our stay and the food has also been top notch, with plenty on offer! The rooms have amazing panoramic views out over the reserve with plenty of big and little animals coming across whilst we were relaxing between drives and meal times. I cannot possibly thank everyone enough, every person we have come across has been truly amazing and that combined with the out of this world game drives has made our stay magical and one we will never forget! We stayed at the Water Lodge which was wonderful - we enjoyed watching the hippos daily and other animals who made an appearance. The game drives were brilliant and Phillip, our ranger, made the drives even better! We were lucky enough to see so many of the animals and had some very close encounters with them! I couldn’t recommend this reserve more! I wold encourage everyone to visit. Read less

An outstanding experience, I thoroughly enjoyed my six safaris in the three days I was there; five with the awesome, instinctive Phillip who tracked prints on the ground, identified animals through dung - rhino = black dung, elephant = reddish brown btw, and awareness of wildebeest and crow behaviour to identify where a lion/lions are. His ability to give warning sounds to a musthing elephant and calls to zebras, impalas and birds was also impressive and reassuring in the case of the elephant! An interesting but cold night drive with Wesley will also stay with me as the hippos were now on the land and ran away from us remarkably quickly! The experience will stay with me forever, I miss waking up to the sound of hippos and Egyptian Geese since returning the the UK. The elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, cheetah, hippos, warthogs, meerkats, monkeys, birds and spiders were quite overwhelming. The staff at the Lodge were fantastic; helpful, accommodating and went above and beyond for each task, I could not have felt more safe or looked after. And the room. My chalet was exceptional with my own private plunge pool, which is very cold in August btw, outside shower and private fire. If you head there in their winter, take fingerless gloves. The rangers provide you with a blanket, poncho, hot water bottle and "Bush Bar" for your safari but I missed fingerless gloves. I thoroughly recommend this game reserve, AND if you are doing the Garden Route, strongly suggest ending in this place rather than starting with it. It was the grand finale to fantastic trip for me.
