Felt like we were in the jungle, stayed in the amazing 4 bedroom house with its own pool and the mini bar was a huge American fridge freezer full. Staff wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing place.

Hog Hollow is everything we'd hoped it would be as a remote lodge. Set in a location of pure natural beauty, and with our own secluded room terrace, with views to the distant valley; inside our room, we felt like we could be alone in the South African bush. We woke to the sound of birds, and slept to the sound of crickets. Staff were faultless - so friendly, helpful & nothing too much trouble. The food was delicious & when the weather permitted, sitting outside on the terrace for breakfast was perfect. Our room incredible - even the shower had breathtaking views. We loved our little log fire - perfect for drying off muddy boots after an exciting walk across the valley to Birds of Eden and Monkeyland. The only thing that detracted slightly from our enjoyment was the fact that unfortunately we arrived on the same day as a large group of around 18 tourists on a package tour - who stayed for 2 nights, and to be honest did completely change the peaceful tranquility. They were very loud - shouting to speak to each other over the communal spaces, and being in such a large group they often took over the entirety of the outside terrace, leaving other guests to have to squeeze in to the few remaining seating areas, or to leave completely, - making it very uncomfortable and not at all relaxing. We also noted that other couples, like us looking quite unhappy come the evening, when we'd all come to the terrace bar to enjoy an aperitif before dinner. The communal space isn't extensive, and having such a large number dominated all the other guests there. Fortunately for us, unlike many other guests, we had three nights at Hog Hollow, so whilst the first 2 nights were affected by the large group, the last night couldn't have been more different. It was peaceful, serene and we spent the final evening on the terrace listing to the sounds of the bush (rather than the shouting of our fellow guests!). As a suggestion to Hog Hollow, I think that for the enjoyment of all guests, groups should be kept to a smaller number - to avoid other guests from feeling intimidated. We were lucky enough to have one night at Hog Hollow experiencing the true remote environment we expected - and we are so pleased that we were able to enjoy this final night. Read less

Started here for two nights as part of garden route stop off and wished we could have been here longer. The service is something I have never experienced before along with great food, I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
