First time in Pretoria and I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks on a business trip. Location is good (…just across the road from a major shopping mall) and not too far by car from many other places for dinner and drinks. The standard room is an OK size and has most of the amenities that you need in a room (safe, kettle, etc…). No iron & board in the room, but staff can bring one up at short notice. There is a small desk area to work from. Basic toiletries in the bathroom. Bed was comfortable, AC was OK, and it was nice to have an opening window in a hotel room. Breakfast was excellent, but the food at lunch and dinner was fairly average. Had the steak one night and it was probably the worst steak I’ve ever had. The staff in the dinning and bar area were amazing and this made the experience of eating there so much better. From Friday night and over the weekend, the dinning and bar area becomes a bit of a party zone. It can get busy and loud during this time, so if this isn’t your scene, you may not enjoy it. I actually quiet liked it and it was refreshing to be in a hotel that had some life to it. As with the dinning staff, the reception staff were great and always helpful. A good, clean, reliable, and safe hotel. Food quality was a bit average, but there are other places nearby to eat dinner. I would recommend this place and would stay again. Read less

We had the opportunity to stay at Protea Fire and Ice in Pretoria for 3 weeks and it was magnificent each step of the way. Before we arrived the staff promptly answered all our questions and concerns (it was our first time visiting South Africa so were were excited and nervous…Thank you Alisha and all!). The hotel arranged convenient airport pickup and upon arrival we were enthusiastically greeted and our accommodations were exactly as promised. We stayed in the 1 bedroom executive suite. Our room was very comfortable and quiet after a long day out and about. The staff of Fire and Ice are exceptional. They are friendly, helpful and hard working. Everyone greets you with a smile and inquires if there is anything that they can do to make your stay better. The rooms are well laid out and perfectly clean. The restaurant is excellent and lives up to their goal of the best breakfast buffet in Pretoria. The dinner buffet is equally excellent as well as anything you order off the menu. The restaurant and bar area is very upbeat and lively for a fun evening but you can also find a quiet spot inside or outside. The front desk staff were extremely helpful with itinerary suggestions and even arranged a “rescue” pickup for us when our Uber App wasn’t working due to our remote location. Though we are not big shoppers, the proximity to the mall was helpful for things we needed as well as additional restaurants. It was wonderful experience that we hope to repeat. Read less

Very good service .friendly staff .the bar area is the perfect spot to relax and a have a dink.Dining hall very elegant and lighting is just perfect.Room is perfect with stylish shower feature.My second visit there and was still impressed from the last visit

Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the food is great (just make sure to get what you ordered, I got by mistake another spicy dish). The room service is awesome. The hotel is located 10 min walk from the Menlyn mall. A pool is available to swim.

Really cannot fault the staff, but the design of this hotel is just horrendous. It's dark and cave-like and the rooms are tiny. Check in was extremely slow (about an hour) and we were lied to several times in the process about room availabilty and availabilty of an upgrade. Ultimately we ended up in a standard room which was completely horrible. open bathroom, no closet, no room for anything. We had 3 bags and were constantly tripping over either the bags or each other just trying to move around the room. Whomever designed this hotel had obviously never stayed in one and they tried to cram too many rooms into too small of a space. Open bathrooms? Ridiculouts. Dark everywhere? I've never used my phone flashlight so frequently. We had planned to stay a week and checked out after one night. No recognition of my ambassador status. No welcome gift. I'd suggest that this is just a place to avoid completely unless the only other option is sleeping under a bridge. You'd have much more space under the bridge. Read less
