The hotel has this feeling that something great is about to happen. Lovely property. Liked listening to the staff, they all seem upbeat. With the hotel recently reopening they are not far from being complete again. I’ll be back, love the arch

Friendly staff, but inflexible and unwilling to accommodate customers. Holes in the hotel security. I ask to pay the hotel bill immediately on arrival, with AMEX, but their terminal does not accept payment by phone. I then ask to enter the card details manually in their pos and I am incredibly answered that it is not within the rules of the Marriott group. I come from several nights in several hotels of the same group, in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and I was able to enter the data manually, again for the same problem. Last year i spent more then twenty nights in Marriott hotel groups and i paid few times in the same way, with DIners at the time. Instead, I am asked to fill in a form authorising them to credit my card, unspecified amount. I answer no. Extremely insecure and also open to possible errors. At that moment I am told over the phone, I was already in the room at the computer to see their template, that I will be escorted out of the room for non-payment! ( I am elite silver member of Marriott). Imagine the shock. The problem is solved by using a second card, personal and not business. I would have changed hotels if not for the travel and that the only hotel nearby is from the same group. Once back in the room, after an hour of discussions where no one wanted to understand, despite obvious discrepancies in rules between the same hotels in the group, I realise that access to the corridors of the rooms is completely free, anyone can access them. There is a guard at the entrance, but if an ill-intentioned person asks to go up to the bar, located on the first floor next to the rooms, from there he could easily access the entire hotel and the neighbouring gym. Not exactly state of the art in terms of security. I even locked the door latch at night for safety. Two recommendations to Marriott: For room payments in case of problems, send a link with the amount to be paid clearly written, as is the case with airlines company and not a generic authorisation to credit the cards. Solve the security problem at the Fire&Ice Hotel on Melrose as soon as possible, as it should have been solved yesterday. Read less
