Hamiltons Tented Camp

Kruger and surrounds, South Africa

The hotel

You can sense the romance of the Victorian safari goer when you arrive at this traditional tented camp, with its vintage steamer trunks, sepia photographs, and old-fashioned hurricane lamps. Overlooking Nwaswitsontso River, Hamiltons Tented Camp throws you back into the 19th century, as you sleep beneath the canvas of one of its six elevated tents, nestled among Jackalberry and Sausage trees and linked by timber walkways. Drifting off to the rustles and calls of the bush, your Kruger National Park setting, in a private concession shared with its two sister camps, lets you wake to some of Africa’s most awe-inspiring wildlife walks, game-drives, and bush dining experiences.

We stayed here several years ago for 4 nights. Each drive we saw many different species and the big 5. Right in front of the lodge were massive elephants everywhere hanging out. Vervet monkeys and birds. Our room was quite spacious and the staff were fantastic. The food was delicious and we were all made to feel very welcome. I wish I could visit… Read more

We spent 2 nights at hamilton tents. The staff was very friendly. The Tent was very unique. It made us feel like in a filmstrip of out of africa. Shower outside was quite a experience. While you are showering you can see impalas walking by. Food was good, and for me as vegetarian never a problem. The game drive was ok, for our ranger suitboy it… Read more

The staff here really do bend over backwards for you and are super friendly. The accommodation is out of this world our room was about a two minute walk from the main area over this wooden bridge that overlooks the riverbed. The walk it self at night is amazing and we saw an Elephant walking back to our room in the riverbed literally 20 metres away! The rooms are really nice and I love the idea of the tents it really does make you feel like you are on a proper Safari. The food here was insane and we had Ostrich which was my favourite meal on a two week holiday across SA. The game drives we spectacular and the rangers really go above and beyond to ensure you see as much as possible during your drives. When we left they performed and song and a dance which was a really nice memorable touch. Thanks! Read less

I had a really great stay at Hamiltons. I really loved the vibe of the place, it really felt like I was stepping back in time to the first explorers. The service and food was outstanding! (You must try to ostrich!) The bathroom/shower was a little awkward (no hook for the shower hose or dividers between the bedroom) but beautiful tented rooms.… Read more
