The hotel

With Hippo Hollow’s idyllic location on the banks of the Sabie River it's not unusual to see hippos 'mowing' the grass when you are dining in the waterside restaurant. By day, you'll spot kingfishers and other attractive water birds from thatched garden and river chalets with beautiful garden and pools views. We did a group tour to Hippo Hollow and it was fabulous. The accommodations were excellent and the location was beautiful. The restaurant and the food was awesome. The staff were truly efficient, knowledgeable and lovely.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at Hippo Hollow with our tour group. There were a few things we would change however: having washcloths in the room, having someone escort us down to the river as we were asked to leave when we went down there alone, having wifi in the room (very important), Service was excellent! Would stay there again

Wifi good enough to send and receive emails. Pool area open and covered, pool good, although sun beds a little uncomfortable. A highlight was a hippo grazing on the grass… Read more

A highlight was a hippo grazing on the grass near the restaurant one evening!! Elephants were brought down to the river to bathe on the opposit bank, what a treat! Would`nt hesitate to return. This is a great hotel which is not to big, making it very friendly and this is only added to by the staff, who are very obliging and helpful both in reception and in the restaurant. The food is of high quality and standard, catering for most tastes. They allowed us a later room check out so that we could to the elephant whispers, which they also kindly booked for us. The room was spotlessly clean and of a good size with a huge, very comfy bed, with crisp white sheets. The walk in shower was lovely and hot each day, whatever time it was used. The room was kept cool by a ceiling fan which was extremely quiet. The outdoor pool was very close to our room and though we didn't use it due to time factors, it looked very inviting and was clean. The hotel was quiet, especially at night and so, therefore, was very relaxing. We were here for two nights and on the second night was fortunate enough to see a hippo! This hotel is close to Kruger National Park and there are a few hotel complexes near by. Some are very large and one has a golf course and if that's what you are after then that's fine, but if you are looking for something more intimate and romantic then I think this is an ideal place to be.
