The hotel

With Hippo Hollow’s idyllic location on the banks of the Sabie River it's not unusual to see hippos 'mowing' the grass when you are dining in the waterside restaurant. By day, you'll spot kingfishers and other attractive water birds from thatched garden and river chalets with beautiful garden and pools views. As well as the delights of Kruger, there's much to discover in the area including God's Window and the Blyde River Canyon.

If you do anything, make sure you eat in the restaurant. The food is akin to a 5-Star restaurant. Close to Kruger and Elephants and Hippos in the back yard. Get the river view chalets, worth it! If you are organizing a tour to Kruger, use Shinzelle Safaris, request Docter as your guide. This is how we found Hippo Hollow. Danielle was great booking the Tour and Stay. If you stay at Hippo Hollow, there is a nice, little shopping center of "tourist" gifts next door at the trading post. Read less

The best stay we've ever had! The customer service was fantastic and the staff was so helpful. Given the current circumstances many resorts service bland and average food however the food here was beyond amazing! The facilities were great and the place itself is so beautiful. I would stay here again every opportunity I get!!

We had a wonderful stay at Hippo Hollow. Our first day there we were blessed enough to witness both a group of elephants and two hippos. The accommodation itself is very clean and had a beautiful balcony to enjoy the view with. Small details were missing, for example a plug to charge our phones / laptops next to the bed would have been nice and the bedding wasn't very warm, considering that we visited during winter. Other than that the staff was very friendly and there are a few restaurants close to the estate which were really nice. Over all we really enjoyed our stay and will happily stay there again!
