The hotel

Boasting sweeping views over the game-filled plains of Madikwe with the purple-hued Dwarsberg mountain range in the background, the luxurious Madikwe Safari Lodge is a malaria-free resort offering the holiday of a lifetime. The swimming pool at Lelapa Lodge is particularly special, get eye-to-eye with passing elephants and giraffe as they come to drink from the permanent water-hole just steps from the Lelapa pool. Ideal for couples or families, the lodge has a choice of accommodation across three lodges: Lalapa Lodge has spacious suites with luxurious bathtubs and open fireplaces for romantic evenings and family suites have a kid’s annex complete with bunkbeds and for those seeking complete peace and quiet, Kopano and Dithaba Lodges offers a slightly more private experience for couples. All are furnished with luxurious soft furnishings in an African style and all suites boast their very own plunge pools, perfect for cooling off under the African sun. Children are warmly welcomed with plenty to keep them occupied including making pizzas in the boma, star gazing and games night. When you’re not immersing yourself in the wilderness, enjoy an African Candle Massage at the spa, a truly sublime experience. Speaking of sublime experiences, we didn’t mention the exceptional cuisine, whether dining in the BOMA, enjoying a sundowner or heading out into the bush for breakfast at sunrise and dinner by starlight, you will be truly spoilt.

We couldn't have wished for a more memorable honeymoon experience! So many wonderful memories to take away and treasure - from game drives and sundowners with our amazing guide, Ryan, to the thoughtful and personal little touches provided by the reception, kitchen, waiting staff and housekeeping teams. We were so well looked after throughout our stay, and every member of staff was pleasant, cheerful and attentive to our needs. We'll never forget the sight of elephants, zebras and giraffes at the watering hole as we lounged by the pool! Truly an unforgettable experience - thank you to everyone at Madikwe Safari Lodge (Lelapa Lodge). Read less

ALL the staff, from the manager down to the housekeepers and wait staff, go above and beyond to make sure every guest has the experience of a lifetime. All the guides are very knowledgeable and personable. Even when you are not out on a game drive, wildlife abounds. The poolside watering hole is a wonderful place to relax while still watching the incredible wildlife of the area. As a plus, Madikwe Safari Lodge is the only lodge in the reserve that is designed to accommodate families. Children need to be a certain age to go one the game drives, but if they are below the age limit, there are activities they can engage in while the parents are in the bush. Whether you are a single traveler, couple, or family, I highly recommend staying here! Read less

My travel agent recommended this place as the perfect fit for my family of 5. Literally everyone we interacted with was so warm, welcoming, and genuinely focused on making our stay comfortable. We were never able to stump Mitchell with any question. He was so knowledgeable, and his passion and interest in animals was very evident. Joyce always welcomed us with a big smile and met our numerous requests for special drinks and menu substitutions, and even second portions of the incredibly delicious food! Amy never hesitated to help us out with logistics even letting us use the usb outlet in the office after we checked out. The housekeeping staff always kept our rooms tidy and organized. We especially loved the little touches such as the story cards, heating pads in the beds, and chalkboard to communicate. Olga, the masseuse, was very accommodating with our schedule, and even come at night since it was the only time that worked for us. This lodge truly put our comfort and enjoyment as their top priority. They welcomed us at the front with friendly waves each time we arrived back from a game drive. Food was very plentiful - and most importantly, so delicious! I don't think there was a need that wasn't met. Their watering hole had lots of animal visitors, and you can enjoy it sitting by the pool, or on their many lounge chairs that were available. Kids were also entertained at the Eco Lodge by Ceceila. My kids said she was very funny, and accommodating with her activities which ranges from crafts, to art, to cooking! Truly a gem of a lodge and I would highly recommend to anyone. Read less
