Madikwe Safari Lodge

Madikwe, South Africa

The hotel

Boasting sweeping views over the game-filled plains of Madikwe with the purple-hued Dwarsberg mountain range in the background, the luxurious Madikwe Safari Lodge is a malaria-free resort offering the holiday of a lifetime. The swimming pool at Lelapa Lodge is particularly special, get eye-to-eye with passing elephants and giraffe as they come to drink from the permanent water-hole just steps from the Lelapa pool. Ideal for couples or families, the lodge has a choice of accommodation across three lodges: Lalapa Lodge has spacious suites with luxurious bathtubs and open fireplaces for romantic evenings and family suites have a kid’s annex complete with bunkbeds and for those seeking complete peace and quiet, Kopano and Dithaba Lodges offers a slightly more private experience for couples. All are furnished with luxurious soft furnishings in an African style and all suites boast their very own plunge pools, perfect for cooling off under the African sun. Children are warmly welcomed with plenty to keep them occupied including making pizzas in the boma, star gazing and games night. When you’re not immersing yourself in the wilderness, enjoy an African Candle Massage at the spa, a truly sublime experience. Speaking of sublime experiences, we didn’t mention the exceptional cuisine, whether dining in the BOMA, enjoying a sundowner or heading out into the bush for breakfast at sunrise and dinner by starlight, you will be truly spoilt.

Dinner was beautiful set up outside on the balcony, no problems with bugs, food was excellent, service was excellent. Game drives were better than I expected for Madikwe - we saw more animals than I saw in Tanzania on a game drive! Lots of Rhino, also Lion. The guides were great and we had GREG who was very knowledgable and professional. He took us on a bush walk to track Rhino which was unforgettable. There were leopard and wild dog in the area - we got lucky with the wild dog and saw 7 puppies. The main lodge had a great waterhole in front of the swimming pool - we had lunch there watching the elephants playing and swimming, then warthog and zebra also came to drink, all whilst we were eating. This is a great lodge for relaxation but plenty to do with the bush walking and game drives to keep entertained. I liked how the game drives were not crowded with only 3 vehicles allowed at each sighting and all the rangers from different properties all acted like a team, not competitors which created a really nice vibe. LOADS of Elephants here - frankly it was excellent and I would love to return. Read less

I highly recommend Madikwe safari lodge to everyone, we went with a fiver year old and a 15 year old and had a great time. We stayed at a family suite, which was perfect and even had small pool outside. There were plenty activities for the little one and the rides were great, we saw all the big 5 except for leopards and many other animals.
