Madikwe Safari Lodge

Madikwe, South Africa

The hotel

Boasting sweeping views over the game-filled plains of Madikwe with the purple-hued Dwarsberg mountain range in the background, the luxurious Madikwe Safari Lodge is a malaria-free resort offering the holiday of a lifetime. The swimming pool at Lelapa Lodge is particularly special, get eye-to-eye with passing elephants and giraffe as they come to drink from the permanent water-hole just steps from the Lelapa pool. Ideal for couples or families, the lodge has a choice of accommodation across three lodges: Lalapa Lodge has spacious suites with luxurious bathtubs and open fireplaces for romantic evenings and family suites have a kid’s annex complete with bunkbeds and for those seeking complete peace and quiet, Kopano and Dithaba Lodges offers a slightly more private experience for couples. All are furnished with luxurious soft furnishings in an African style and all suites boast their very own plunge pools, perfect for cooling off under the African sun. Children are warmly welcomed with plenty to keep them occupied including making pizzas in the boma, star gazing and games night. When you’re not immersing yourself in the wilderness, enjoy an African Candle Massage at the spa, a truly sublime experience. Speaking of sublime experiences, we didn’t mention the exceptional cuisine, whether dining in the BOMA, enjoying a sundowner or heading out into the bush for breakfast at sunrise and dinner by starlight, you will be truly spoilt.

Despite the constant turnover of guests, so many staff knew and greeted me by name....that is impressive. They seek to make it a very personal experience for guests. I loved spending my afternoons sitting by the pool....not that I am fond of swimming, but because the waterhole is a only a stone's throw away. Most days we were visited by elephants, giraffe and a cute family of warthogs. It is a brilliant way to get close to wildlife on their level. Read less

Thank you to Safari Lodge for an unforgettable experience!! We were treated like family by the wonderful staff of this intimate lodge. Our 4month old baby received lots of love and attention from everyone. Maureen deserves a special mention. I felt completely comfortable leaving him in the hands of the staff while we enjoyed a gamedrive or dinner. Irene and Violet in particular inspired a lot of confidence. The active waterhole meant that there was still a good bush experience to be had for those not on drives. Our ranger JP was contagiously enthusiastic about all aspects of the bush and doggedly hunted us down some excellent sitings. I would 100% recommend this lodge to those travelling with babies or kids of all ages for an enjoyable and safe safari. Read less

This is a fabulous lodge. 8 star! We had tricky dietary requirements being strictly kosher and the lodge went all out to make things really easy and accommodate us. The rooms are fantastic and the pool area is literally 10m from the watering hole. The game just flocked there. We have been to many lodged in Madikwe and can highly recommend this one.

Our stay in Madikwe Safari Lodge was a dream come true! Madikwe reserve is huge private reserve on south africa nearby Botsuana. Among the various lodges inside the reserve is Madikwe Safari Lodge. The lodge is divided in 3 with some differences being the mean that one of the lodges is suited for families and the other two don’t allow kids. Since booking they were really helpful with my doubts and always kind in their replies. They assign you a guide/ranger as soon as you get there who will take you for twice a day games. The rangers are all well prepared in knowledge and experience. Steph, our guide, was beside that a sweet person who manage well the two kids that were in our group... they also offer bush walks (on foot safari) that you have to book. We had the opportunity of seen the big five as well as a lot of other animals and beautiful landscaping. They do stops for coffee in the morning and for drinks in the afternoon in beautiful spots! The lodge is amazing! All the common areas and the room, witch has a porch with a small tub outside shower and reclining chairs, have a nice decoration and views. The room also had a nice bath tub inside and fireplace among with a lot of other cute little details (including our own diy gin bar) The pool is right in front of a water whole that are frequently visited by all sorts of animals specially elephants and zebras (but we also caught a lion once there!). The breakfast is served outdoors ate the deck and its delicious. All meals were delicious actually! And lunch can be served at the deck, by the pool or even in your room! Dinners can be a surprise! They assign you a different spot every night and twice a week the have outdoors barbecues when you dine with your ranger and safari group mates, witch is very nice! The beverages are high quality and you can switch from wine to cocktails at anytime! Staff is always ready to make your stay as wonderful as you imagine! We had the opportunity to have a bush dinner that was really special! And on our last day, when we got back from dinner they had prepared a bubble bath with candles for us ❤️! Every night someone lit our fireplace and every morning someone called us to wake us up for the morning game! They also offer some other activities between games such as massages, lectures and kids activities. I have no way of putting in words the true delight that was our stay at madikwe safari lodge! Looking forward to visit again someday! Read less
