Thoroughly enjoyed a 2 day stay @ Marataba Safari Lodge. From the personal pick-up from a nearby airfield upon arrival until departure 2 days later.... things just got better and better. The Lodge was an oasis in the African bush. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated - one could ask for nothing more! We felt so pampered.....Meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were all welcoming and helpful. The game drives were AMAZING - saw a vast array of animals and the hippo, rhino, lion and elephant sightings were just awesome. Our field guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed our time with him immensely. Overall an amazing experience and we can highly recommend a stay @ Marataba. Read less

I can sincerely say this experience exceeded our expectations. The whole experience was managed very professionally and there was a focus on the personal touch. The Lodge itself is very special although you don't spend that much time there. I would be worth scheduling in some time to experience the Lodge facilities. Our guide, Mitch, was a star. Every trip was different and felt like a unique experience enhanced by his energy and passion for the Park. There is an element of jeopardy but you are in very safe hands and it all makes for a very memorable experience. Read less

Marataba Mountain Lodge March 2020 We arrived here never having been to a game reserve, so had no expectations as to what we might expect. On leaving reception for a 40 minute drive to the mountain lodge, we met 3 lions within a few hundred yards. Result! Over the next 3 days we had 2 game drives a day, and saw Elephant, White Rhino, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Cheetah, Lion, Zebra etc, not to mention the many types of antelope, birds, and butterflies. The lodge was well equipped and the standard of service and food and drink was excellent. It is a large reserve, some 27000 hectares, but not busy. So no queuing to see the lions! I would estimate that there would be no more than 100 guests in both the Mountain Lodge and the Safari lodge, and during our stay we rarely saw another truck. The guide, Hendrick, was a local who had grown up in the bush and knew his way around. He would look at tracks and follow them to take us to find an elephant, or a pair of mating lions, or a group of white rhino. We only saw 1 snake and that was a young python that had just caught a bird that he was trying to swallow. Disappointingly we did not see buffalo or hippos, but that’s wildlife for you. We would recommend Marataba Lodge without reserve. There is something for the inexperienced and the most experienced person who might go to a game reserve. Read less
