The hotel

This lodge is unique for so many reasons that you’ll begin to forget which one you like the best. For starters, it’s located within one of the world’s largest extinct volcanic complexes and is surrounded by numerous African native animals including: springbok, cheetah, rhino, elephant and lion. The Ivory Tree Lodge has also been upgraded to fully represent contemporary luxury without detracting from the natural environment. A large swimming pool and guest areas are designed to provide relaxation and relief for groups and individuals. Meal times can be enjoyed inside or outside and you’ll be amazed at the fine dining options. Two lounge areas and two bars, one of which serves cocktails, provide the perfect evening location from where to reflect on your day’s adventures in the bush. If you’re looking for further activities, other than a ‘Big Five’ safari, then why not try getting involved with something cultural including interactive drumming sessions.

Our safari experience was unbeatable - **huge shout out to Grant** who was the best and most passionate guide. We absolutely loved cruising around the bush in his vehicle! He is so knowledgable and clearly passionate about what he does and really goes out of his way to share his passion with his guests. Every day is extremely well organised, with time and space to relax if that is what you are after, coupled with plenty of time available to spend on game drives. For the premium price, would expect some of the basics to be a bit better, especially the buffet lunch and dinner which was certainly not premium quality. Read less

Ivory Tree markets itself as a 5-star establishment and by and large they are a 5-star establishment. The rooms are wonderful. The standard rooms are spacious. Massive bed and a nice big bathroom with a separate toilet. The outdoor shower may not be everyone's speed, but it is a wonderful addition. Winter showering should not be a problem. You… Read more

Paid 5 star prices yet received 2 star value. Rooms were nice. But food (lunch and Dinner) was disgusting. The lamb ribs were so fatty that they were inedible. As for the rest- selection was poor- not even a beef roast on the buffet. Would never return for food alone. They could learn from their neighbour Bakubang. So much wrong in the room .… Read more

As for the rest- selection was poor- not even a beef roast on the buffet. Would never return for food alone. They could learn from their neighbour Bakubang. So much wrong in the room . Lights were flickering - had to call maintenance , safe couldnt open - called maintenance again. Coffee machine not working - lost interest at this point. But the worst was only an outdoor shower and a bath. How do you shower in winter??? We were 30 in the group. And had the boma to ourselves. The waitress was visibly irritated that we were staying late (10pm is late?) and showed her displeasure. Selection of food in boma was again inadequate - only lamb and pork. Chops were tough. Conclusion: There are many less expensive options in the area which will give better service and food. Read less

The hotel is simple yet classy. The staff are extremely hospitable and friendly. The food is average, but you will forgive this as the nature and location of the hotel makes up for everything. I will never forget the tub and the experience of an outside shower.
