We have been coming to Sun City for over 30yrs now but I have to say the stunt to get money from me today in the Cascade hotel is probably the worst I’ve experienced. This happened when I tried to retrieve my 600ZR (£33) for our pool towels. The lady told me management had removed all the cash and she couldn’t help. After talking with her for 4-5mins she then suggested that I make a donation of this to her. I was stunned! No I responded and then I went to see someone in manage. At that the lady said “ I’m only joking” and burst out laughing, then the barman joined in and they had a good laugh together. I told her that this was a very cheeky thing to try and I don’t see the joke. I am stunned at this stunt to get money from there guests. Shame on you. Read less

We have stayed at the Cabanas before a couple of times and decided to upgrade to the Cascades this time. The location is great so close to the Valley of the waves and restaurants so we didn't have to use the bus. The room was good with a comfy bed and clean bedding. The bathroom plumbing was less desirable with black mould at the surrounds of the shower and the basin drained very slowly. Towels were lovely and thick! The reception check in was dismally slow and not terribly welcoming or personal, but not unfriendly. Despite requesting a room high up with a view, we got put in a second floor room. The breakfast was good with nice décor and piano music. The only issue was a total lack of waitresses to provide tea and coffee. Every day we had to head hunt an available person! The pool was nice but would have thought that in a 5 star establishment that waiters would be available for drink orders at the pool chairs... I had one offer in three days!! Lovely well kept grounds and clean accommodation. Read less

The resort offers loads to do & is also very near Pinlandsberg which has the big 5. Read less

spent 3 days at the cascades as part of the spar convention. very disappointing to say the least. in our room three lights and the aircon did not work. only one of the 3 lifts worked which made check in and check out a nightmare. at one stage one of the 'previously out of order' lifts opened and a guest got in. needless to say, the lift stopped with him between floors and he was terrified being stuck in the lift. when we reported this to reception, we were coldly informed that a technician is working on the lift and that is why the left got stuck. yet, no notice on the lift - or any of the out of order lifts. getting service at the bar seemed a nightmare with 5 staff members more interested in chatting to each other than serving guests. no management present at any given time and management absence was very obvious. for a hotel that was upgraded a year ago, this is not acceptable at all. during evening functions, a topic of discussion was all the maintenance issues in the rooms - everybody i spoke to experienced the same. sun city as a whole is becoming a fallen hero. Great accommodation in the superior luxury room, very spacious, best location in the complex, & high up even though we're didn't quite get the view we repeatedly asked for. The bathroom was spacious, clean & luxurious though I am not a fan of the wooden toilet seat. The welcome fruit basket & wine was a great touch & very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable however the furniture was not cleaned properly & we had to call housekeeping to clean the TV cabinet & the table. Breakfast was busy but good. The waiter that attended to my boyfriend who couldn't move around easily due up his broken ankle was fantastic & listened very attentively to what he wanted & brought him just that. His energy was amazing & one could see he was passionate & hardworking. I'm afraid I forgot his name but one can't miss him when you go down for breakfast. There were Easter activities for the kids that the adults could still partake in. The pool area was relaxing & restricted for hotel guests only which I appreciated. It did not get hectically crowded. The manager at the restaurant was super rude & should be fired. We were speaking up the waitress about our order one night & the manager very rudely in front of us told her to serve someone else. We told him that we're busy with her & she told him the same but this poor excuse for a person in the service industry told us & her that another table requires drinks. Left the place disgusted. We were told that this manager is constantly rude to people of colour & to staff. Despite this, it was a great stay. Read less
