I was a bit disappointed at the hospitality at the cascades at sun city, it is far from being a 5 star in terms of service. We had a toddler in the room and requested for the sleeper bed to be made when we went out for dinner at about 6 only to return after 9 and it not being made. I dropped my toothbrush and the basin and called the reception requesting one only to be told there is a charge that will be added to my account. Most if not all 5 star hotels would have a temporary toothbrush in the room with other vanity products to use. The breakfast spread was decent. Read less

Lockdown restrictions had eased and we were desperately in need of a break. Sun City is within easy reach from Johannesburg, a 2 hour drive. Most of the road is a single lane with many trucks, which slows the journey down a bit. But enter Sun city and it's welcome to paradise. We booked at the Cascades Hotel as it is close to the entertainment centre and has a lovely pool area. Staff at the Hotel and resort were friendly and went out of their way to assist, which was surprisingly pleasant. The weather was warm, about 23 -25 degrees. That was great as the Pilansburg area can get very hot. The Cascades Hotel is a bit old looking and could do with an exterior revamp to modernise the look. The family room was adequate with a king size bed and a fold out sleeper couch. So it would be best suited to families with younger kids. The bathroom was neat and had a shower and a bath tub. Breakfast at the Cascades is good, with a full continental selection, teas, coffees and fruit. There is something for everyone. We spent most of our time at the Valley of Waves, well we were only there for 3 days. The River of time is chilled and my favorite way to ease into the activities at the Valley of Waves. The children and I thoroughly enjoyed the waves in the wave pool. So we planned our slides, river of time and nap or eating around the waves. The slides are a real treat for adventures seekers and adrenals junkies. I could not bring myself to attempting some of the 'faster' and scarier slides. Since we went mid week off peak, it was quiet, no queues for the slides or food stalls. This is perfect! A day at the Valley of Waves is a full and exciting day. Sometimes when I was in need of catching my breath I would rest on the sand with a novel or some shut eye. The entire resort was neat and tidy and well maintained. The entertainment centre has a variety of restaurants and take away options from Spur, The Raj, Steers, Debonairs to name a few. Efficient service and food options to suit most palettes. We did the Maze together. I found it confusing and got lost but the children whizzed through it having bundles of laughs. The pool and slide at the Cascades is pleasant. With a restaurant and bar attached, it's the perfect setting for sundowners. Will definitely give Sun City a big thumbs up. Looking forward to our next trip soon. Well worth every penny! Read less

Beautiful hotel, clean and beautiful pool, good resturant options, friendly staff. Maltos Greek resturant is really good. The food is really good, and well priced. Be sure to take walk in the gardens, and cross the bridge, little waterfalls on the way.

We had a great time at the breakfast buffet. Robert the pianist really blessed us with his musical talent...so much so that he was even willing to teach me a thing or two about learning piano, which was absolutely inspiring Thank u Robert for the wonderful experience ☆☆☆☆☆

It’s definitely not the cascades at sun city it used to be 1. The service is unbelievable 2. They are maintaining the hotel and upon arrival the plugs in the room don’t work The staff check you into rooms that do not work: they are unorganized wasting over an hour and a half of peoples time and money 3. They don’t have enough transportation between hotel: they downscale due to covid BUT are at full capacity And one waits 40 min for transport and eventually walks Upon return 40 min later the car arrives: and we get asked after walking back and forth, with elderly people, what must they do with the car 4. Check in was efficient but the room has dirty cups, but the room is sanitizer 5. Calling reception falls on deaf ears, one waits 20 min while requesting a room change that has actually been checked which when the person arrives, nothing has been checked And no porter arrives to move things over 5. Asking to speak to a manager and one gets passed to a totally incorrect person. 6. Upon leaving the 2 rooms and arriving in reception, asking to speak to a manager one wastes more time to sit and wait for new rooms instead of enjoying a holiday. Due to incompetence of staff and manager. 7. The day before check in, we were told the hotel us under maintenance: we asked 5 times from the said manager if everything was in order to stay in a hotel under maintenance and were told there are no hiccups 8. Then the manager on duty gets upset that our time is wasted when we bring up all the issues, she get s angry. Maybe it is time, to close the hotel, fix all your issues, especially staff issues whereby persons get upset and ruin their holiday for incompetence Choose a hotel not under renovation Read less
