Sun City is full of nostalgic memories for me. I absolutely love the “city” in the middle of “nowhere”. It’s a place that is full of majestic wonder and every time I come back here I still can’t take it all in. There is nothing like the view from the Cascades overlooking the Gary Player golf course. However the hotel the hotel is in need of a serious revamp. Rooms The rooms are old and show the wear and tear. They are clean and well serviced but lack of maintenance is very apparent. The shower head in our room sits skew - still ok to use but needs maintenance. The really outdated non working telephone in the bathroom has come off the wall but sits proudly on the toilet cistern. The rooms are dull and not well lit in areas you could really do with some lighting. Breakfast We waited 20 minutes to be seated. To be fair it was 10am however there was more then enough space in the dining room. There seems to be a real issue with the process of taking down a guests name and seating them. Staff Some staff are really friendly and helpful. Sadly most aren’t. The guy making omelettes at breakfast hardly spoke a word to me and used “there” to explain where I needed to order my omelette. A sign explaining the different stations would cut down on a lot of incorrect queuing. We weren’t offered tea of coffee on being seated. When we flagged down a manager walking past he didn’t even stop to hear our request. In stead he shouted to a waitress who came over a while later. The service at the pool bar is so below standard I have experienced better at a take away. The waiters have to get beer from one place and drinks from another and food from another and ice from another. All resulting in a LOT of waiting time. They also aren’t friendly and the entire attitude around the resort felt like the staff were very inconvenienced by our requests. Our waiter at the Pool area disappeared for well over 30 minutes and when we eventually gave up and went to the bar to pay we were told by the manager to wait there while he went to find our waiter. After 10 minutes the manager returns and gave us a completely different bill to ours delaying us even more. The hotel The lifts at the Cascades need serious attention. They stopped working during the breakfast rush. Which resulted in having to walk up and down the stairs to the 11th floor several times. When I asked one of the porters in the lobby how else I could get to the 11th floor his reply was “they are working on it”. The hotel itself is screaming for a refurbishment. All around I will always come back to Sun City. But for a 5 star hotel such as the cascades it doesn’t feel worth the expense. The resort carries the Sun International name but it just doesn’t have the same excellence as the other Sun International hotels. Hopefully on it’s 40th birthday sun city will hit a mid life crisis and turn around before it becomes old and run down. It’s a beautiful place and would be so sad to see it decline. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Sun City clinic will not care for children and pregnant women, yet they market themselves as a family resort

I do not recommend anyone who has children or that is pregnant to holiday here. My child fell ill whilst we we staying at the resort, I was told there was a 24hr clinic on site with a doctor. I got to the clinic at 8am, we were told by the nurse that the doctor does not work on weekends however he is authorized to prescribe medication as he did not have any medication on site. He assessed the child and said that she needed a chest x-ray, that the ambulance will take us to the nearest hospital but we will have to find our own way back. The nearest hospital was 35min away. I decided to try the antibiotics as we were due to fly back home the next day, were she would be able to bee seen by her doctors. I took what he said was a prescription and went to the pharmacy to get the antibiotics. The pharmacist looked at the letter and refused to give the medication as it was not a prescription but a referral letter. The pharmacist insisted that there should be a doctor on call and I need to follow up up with management. That is when this house of cards started to fall. I got to my hotel at 9am to insist that a doctor see my child, as stated in their on their web site that there is a doc available 24hr, The guest relations manager only contacted me at 11am to ask me what was going on yet I was standing at reception at 9am when the receptionist called her. Her name was Asanda, she was so rude and unhelpful, she argued with me in the foyer that the doctor does not work weekends and that I need to go to the hospital. i asked her as to the protocol for sick people at the resort and she said the clinic is not part of the resort and run independently yet they advertise that it is part of the resort. Eventually I insisted her to contact the clinic supervisor, her name is Sister Magda, she was just as incompetent, she said "that the clinic is a liability to children and pregnant women and therefore I was advised to go to the hospital" I have this recorded btw, How can a family resort be a liability to children and pregnant women, do all the families that book here know this!!!! She went on to say that if she had to call a doctor it would be at my expense ( yet this was a free service) and that she would suggest that I go to the hospital. I insisted that she get my child a doctor at what ever expense. The doctor arrived almost immediately and apologized for the in convince, she said the child did not need x-rays. She also had all the medication in the clinic including the antibiotics...shocking. Asanda never came back to me to appoloigise neither did she ask about my baby..horrible people and horrible experience Read less

Currently here enjoying a family getaway after many years, at the cascades. Sad to see their high pricing didn't result in maintenance (white stain on couch, chipped cabinetry in bathroom, torn pillows on the bed). Small things like this make guests like me question if it is worth it. My glass bottles of water were removed today, not replaced. I asked housekeeping in person, to provide more, and was told they would come through. 3 hours later, no water has been provided. I can't call reception with the hotel phone, as it is broken. Nice way to avoid complaints I guess. Pity. Read less
