We travelled here as family of 4. Having read other reviews I was aware the bedrooms were in need of updating, I would agree with this. We travelled here as family of 4. Having read other reviews I was aware the bedrooms were in need of updating, I would agree with this. It was built 40 years ago and not originally intended for families. We had a 4 poster bed, our children had a small sofa bed that had seen better days. That said, the Granduer of the Palace was amazing! From the moment we arrived we were amazed with the statues/carvings, attention to detail. The staff were attentive. We felt very grand eating at The Crystal Court for breakfast, music on the Grand Piano- however few observations dining- there was too much choice for breakfast (even random things such as curry - perhaps to get rid of last nights dinners!) and i noticed the salad bar had flies-no cover. I think less choice would be better with the normal food optiond but have staff at each station. The pool was lovely, bar food was good. One negative would be interuptions from the 'massage staff' when you are trying to relax on the sun loungers. A better solution would be a massage tent set up and let customers come to you. The Valley of the Waves: We did the Chimp n Zee here- really good, we enjoyed the lazy river and went on some of the slides. I did not like the 'fake sand' which were tiny 'sharp stones which killed your feet. Overall, the hotel is unique. We loved the extravagance, but it does need modernising in areas and room for improvement but its unlikely we will stay anywhere similar to this again and worth a visit for the experience. Read less

Thoughly recommend this hotel. Great food. Huge pool. Free WiFi. Excellent rooms. The staff are so helpful. We didn’t realise the hotel closes in a weeks time for a month. Very quiet at the present time but it’s 25 degrees and we are being totally spoilt with food massages etc. We highly recommend this hotel

We were celebrating my husband's 60th birthday. The welcome was great. The breakfast selection was amazing, it catered for all tastes and nationalities. I got a massage by the poolside without leaving my lounger. Lovely setting awesome hotel but sadly the service at the pool was less than poor. We have small kids and wanted to sit close to the children play/pool area. Lovely setting awesome hotel but sadly the service at the pool was less than poor. We have small kids and wanted to sit close to the children play/pool area. One of the waiters called “immaculate” ( what a contradictory name ) point blank refused to assist us to move any chairs to the area. After an ongoing disagreement he basically told us to go and fetch the chairs ourselves. The managers is (red shirts) remained seated at the bar and did not intervene. The pool team then went on to refuse to serve us. We eventually ordered from another area with a asked a waiter to please help us. Read less

The decor, exterior and gardens are truly breathtaking. However once you get your room it is a bit of a let down. very old and tired with a terrible damp smell in the bathroom. I have been told that they are doing a revamp. Bed was lovely and service was fair, not what you would expect from such a place. Read less
