Rooms were pretty small but not a big deal as we were hitting the winery's or restaurants and just needed a place to lay our heads. Read less

Good central position close to many wine farms, restaurants and local shops. We had requested a wheelchair friendly room and it was large and roomy with a walk in shower. The addition of a couple of grab rails and a plastic stool or chair would have made the room perfect for wheelchair users. Rooms were set on two floors around a patio/garden/pool area which was very pleasant but there was a lack of privacy on the ground floor with people walking past the room’s windows. The room (number 1) had all you might expect and a plus was a very comfortable king-sized bed. We had a problem with the flushing mechanism on the toilet and it took a couple of attempts to fix it but reception and other staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the usual buffet and was ok if not the best. Overall it’s a good place to stay in this fabulous little town. Read less

We had a great experience at Protea Hotel Franschhoek, great location, close to best spots of the city, good to stay with kids, excellent staff, the manager Mrs Shericka Smith helped us a lot, making reservations for the Safari tours, the rooms are big and the breakfast is great. Thank you Protea staff for the great days we had !!!

Despite being part of a large group this is a really nice individual hotel in Franschhoek. It’s only on 2 storeys and feels like a classy boutique establishment. Breakfast and staff were excellent. Strongly recommend.

This is a faux colonial-style two-story property with a small internal patio and a small pool in the middle of it. The rooms are quite spacious. Nothing special, but the design is fairly contemporary. If you are on the ground floor, the patio floorplan may make you a bit uncomfortable as the rooms are facing the internal patio, and so you'll need to have your drapes drawn to ensure some privacy (it's a glass wall - which is nice, of course, as long as you don't mind being exposed to everyone around). The service is good, all people we've come in contact with were very friendly and willing to help. The restaurant is ok, nothing impressive, but nothing to complain about, either. If you go for breakfast, be prepared to pay extra because a number of items are charged separately. The selection included in the buffet price is rather basic. They make good coffee, btw. The hotel does not have a gym on its premises - however, they have an arrangement with a Franshhoek Health Club which is literally within a 5-min walk - although rather basic/small by US standards, it's an excellent facility by SA standards (for all I have seen), packed with equipment and even featuring a two-lane swimming pool. Just pick up your pass at the hotel's front desk. The hotel has a fenced, secured parking lot. Probably the best feature of this hotel is its location right in the middle of Franshhoek's main "touristy" street with plenty of shops, cafes and other tourist attractions around. Read less
