The Victoria Falls Hotel

Victoria Falls, Zambia

The hotel

Tantalisingly close to Victoria Falls, this grand hotel has views of the waterfall’s spray, the dramatic gorge, and Victoria Falls Bridge, with a private path leading you to the falls themselves in just ten minutes. And this means you’re also close to the attractions of Victoria Falls town. The falls’ inaugural hotel, it has a deep-rooted history dating back to 1904 when it was built for British railway workers. It’s a history still played out in its Edwardian décor and pool, in the High Teas on Stanley’s Terrace (accompanied by views of the bridge and fall sprays), and in the elegant dining of The Livingstone Room, dressed in white tablecloths and sparkling silverware. Victoria Falls Hotel hasn’t forgotten its local roots though, with African feasts and entertainment at Jungle Junction, and braais and beverages served under its thatched gazebos and around the pool.

Very English old world decor with lovely views and great service. The room we had was in a newer wing and it was nice size with spacious bathroom with soaking tub. Great breakfast and lovely afternoon tea. Wonderful art work and great if you enjoy history

My boyfriend took me to the falls for my birthday and we spent 1 beautiful day and night at the falls. The location and service is brilliant. Already recommended to our friends. A short walk from the falls themselves with a gorgeous view of them from the hotel. Careful of the monkeys!

I had the most memorable time staying at The Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe in February last year. I experienced the true Zimbabwean hospitality at its best and I cannot compare it to other tourist destinations in Zimbabwe. I stayed 2 nights in the Stables wing and the customer service was par excellence. The welcome was fantastic, and I cannot fault a single interaction I had with the staff. The hotel was very impressive both in architecture, I love old legendary colonial style hotels and the facilities were just what I expected. The location was perfect for me, as it was a walking distance to the Falls and you also have the amazing views of the bridge from the gardens. The only downside, February is the rainy season, so it was very wet. Helicopter rides were cancelled on short notice. However, I took advantage of the dry moments and took amazing photographs of the Falls. It was amazing to see the falls at their best and most powerful when full of water. Read less

We stopped here for afternoon tea at approx $25 pp plus extra for some fizzy wine. The scones and cakes were nice, but the sandwiches were a little dry. The real highlight was sitting on the terrace overlooking the lawns with the bridge and falls in the distance.
