The Victoria Falls Hotel

Victoria Falls, Zambia

The hotel

Tantalisingly close to Victoria Falls, this grand hotel has views of the waterfall’s spray, the dramatic gorge, and Victoria Falls Bridge, with a private path leading you to the falls themselves in just ten minutes. And this means you’re also close to the attractions of Victoria Falls town. The falls’ inaugural hotel, it has a deep-rooted history dating back to 1904 when it was built for British railway workers. It’s a history still played out in its Edwardian décor and pool, in the High Teas on Stanley’s Terrace (accompanied by views of the bridge and fall sprays), and in the elegant dining of The Livingstone Room, dressed in white tablecloths and sparkling silverware. Victoria Falls Hotel hasn’t forgotten its local roots though, with African feasts and entertainment at Jungle Junction, and braais and beverages served under its thatched gazebos and around the pool.

Yes-like going back in time in a good way. The property itself is gorgeous with great views , animals roaming across the well manicured lawns and a pool that looks like something out of an old Hollywood movie . The room we had was a bit small but it was all we really needed since we didn't spend much time in it. Service and food were excellent in… Read more

The room we had was a bit small but it was all we really needed since we didn't spend much time in it. Service and food were excellent in all of the restaurants. Sitting on the porch with a gin and tonic was especially nice. My first time tasting an amber gin. Lovely! It was very interesting to read the history of the hotel and of all of the VIPs that have stayed there. A gem! Read less

High Tea at the beautiful Victoria Falls Hotel, the oldest hotel in Zimbabwe is a must! Excellent service, and selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones, was very decadent. An excellent pianist plays a selection of well known tunes which was just lovely background music. We had tea on the terrace with gorgeous views, wart hogs wondering around,… Read more

An excellent pianist plays a selection of well known tunes which was just lovely background music. We had tea on the terrace with gorgeous views, wart hogs wondering around, but you cannot ignore the baboons who are ready to pounce, however, the staff are way to quick for them! There was no sharing my afternoon delight with any wild creatures. We also enjoyed an glass of bubbly, and overall this is a very reasonably well priced must do at $20 per person. Read less

Have stayed at the hotel a few times over the years, expensive as you would expect, service and attention to detail second to none, a real gem from yesteryear. A real must for a trip to Victoria falls.

We enjoyed our dinner at the Livingstone room. I'm glad they relaxed the dress standards a bit, so we don't have to cart a suit all over the world while on a leisurely holiday. We had a standard room which at $450 a night was a bit steep. Room was very small. Opt for something bigger if you can. Hotel was fully booked when we were there, so that is a big positive. We feel for the people of Zimbabwe and hope things start improving there. Enjoyed our stay. Read less
