The Victoria Falls Hotel

Victoria Falls, Zambia

Virgin rating

The hotel

Tantalisingly close to Victoria Falls, this grand hotel has views of the waterfall’s spray, the dramatic gorge, and Victoria Falls Bridge, with a private path leading you to the falls themselves in just ten minutes. And this means you’re also close to the attractions of Victoria Falls town. The falls’ inaugural hotel, it has a deep-rooted history dating back to 1904 when it was built for British railway workers. It’s a history still played out in its Edwardian décor and pool, in the High Teas on Stanley’s Terrace (accompanied by views of the bridge and fall sprays), and in the elegant dining of The Livingstone Room, dressed in white tablecloths and sparkling silverware. Victoria Falls Hotel hasn’t forgotten its local roots though, with African feasts and entertainment at Jungle Junction, and braais and beverages served under its thatched gazebos and around the pool.

The Victoria Falls Hotel gets a lot of hype. And the grounds are admittedly stunning at this grand facility built in 1904. It's a five-star accommodation, on paper. However, the food is awful, the Internet is unreliable, and you won't see the falls from here (only the mist). While the customer service was pretty good (Christian is incredible,… Read more

However, the food is awful, the Internet is unreliable, and you won't see the falls from here (only the mist). While the customer service was pretty good (Christian is incredible, others were lacking), it's better at other African hotels. But it's the food that needs major improvement. Read less

We stayed at the Victoria Falls Hotel for two nights in a Premium room which had a lounge, a bathroom and a bedroom all of which were spacious with lovely decor. There was also a separate toilet and two TVs. A champagne breakfast was included in our package. We dined at the Livingstone restaurant where the food was superb and the service immaculate. During dinner we were entertained for 2.5 hours by Tapiwa, a brilliant pianist. Our Premium booking had private check-in with drinks and Judith, Edson and Christian from the Guest Relations Office were friendly, courteous, efficient and most personable. All the staff were friendly and helpful. A truly five star experience! Read less

The staff are all so lovely & helpful, polite, engaging & nothing is too much trouble. The food was fabulous too & I had my first taste of crocodile here which was really very nice. I wish I could remember all the names of the staff we encountered but one in particular stood out; Beatrice is a young member of staff that we thought fondly of. This young woman is going to do well & go far, that we are sure of. Thank you all for such a wonderful & memorable few days. 🥰 Read less

We had an executive room that gave us access to the premium lounge. The service there was almost non existent. We had the feeling of being looked down upon by the staff a few times. I have never felt that in a hotel. It’s a nice place to visit for the day but I would not stay again due to the lack of care by the staff. Read less
