Moose Hotel & Suites

Banff, Alberta

The hotel

Its chalet-styling, reclaimed wood, and Rocky range views give Moose Hotel & Suites that authentic mountain lodge feel most dream of finding when travelling to Canada. On Banff Avenue, this luxury take on a ski cabin is a minute’s walk from the resort’s downtown attractions — but it has plenty of its own too. Alongside handy free treats like WiFi access, parking, and Roam bus passes, it hosts indulgent spaces for relaxation — like its Meadow Spa & Pools where, alongside treatment rooms, you’ll find an indoor pool and a rooftop relaxation zone with two ‘hot pools’, a fire pit, and views of the Rocky Mountains. Back downstairs, the hotel’s Pacini restaurant is just as relaxing, setting you up for the day with breakfast favourites like Eggs Benedict, before cooking up a storm of gourmet Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner guests.

The Moose was excellent. The set up of rooms was great. Food was excellent. The only setback was that we had to go out in the cold to go from the rooms to the main lobby. I would love to visit this place again.

We have stayed in several different hotels in Banff during our many trips to beautiful Canada and this is definitely one of the best! We had a superior 1 bedroom room which was super clean, very well appointed, comfy bed, great linens and lots of nice amenities in the room. We didn't use the hot tubs or pool as at the times we wanted to these areas were really really busy with everyone who had come back from skiing but we did have a look there in the mornings and early afternoon and it was significantly less busy - it just didn't suit our plans to have a soak at that time. Our room had a lovely open fire which really kept us warm as well as air-conditioning heat if you need it. It was so warm on our third day that we were happy that we had windows that opened and let in the lovely air of the mountains. The hotel is very, great lobby area with a huge warm open fire, business area if you need it, guest laundry and underground heated parking which was great. We initially were only going to stay for 3 nights but extended by one and the front desk staff were very happy to oblige and let us stay in the same room. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are staying in Banff, close to everything. We had a room which was facing the back, great views of the mountains and I am guessing it was very very quiet compared to being at the front of the hotel facing on to Banff Ave which of course can get very busy. My only suggestion would be that the hotel upgrade the television options to include PPV movies and Netflix - especially good in the winter when you might just want to chill in front of a movie after a full day out in the mountains. On arrival we were greeted promptly by the courteous Front desk personnel. Check-in was smooth and they noted we prepaid for the stay. They offered to help us with our luggage but we opted to park in the garage and use one of the luggage carts ourselves. Getting the luggage upstairs to room 319 was not a problem. Elevators are secure in that you must use your room key card to access the guest room floors. Parking was easy in the underground garage. The Hotel has a ski storage area in the garage but we just left our skis in the car rather than bother with storage or carry them up to the room. The room itself was clean, and quiet. In the bathroom, the rain shower was excellent. Plenty of quality soap, shampoo, conditioner and skin lotion was provided in the bathroom. There were enough towels in the bath and housekeeping replaced dirty towels when needed. We used the in-room safe near the door every day without any issues. The Phone, Samsung Flat Screen TV and remote, all worked. In room lighting was good especially the gooseneck night reading lights. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. This hotel had one of the best heating/ventilation systems we’ve experienced. We turned the temperature down to 68 degrees at night and back up to 72 degrees during the day. The fan/heater response was immediate. A make-up mirror is in the bathroom was good but I’m not sure if it can be moved out of the bathroom or a second mirror provided in the bed area which would be convenient. Both the coffee maker and hot water heater worked as expected. Bold Instant coffee and Black tea were provided in a basket along with cups and couple of “Kind” energy/protein bars. Housekeeping kept this stocked so we never ran out of tea or coffee. We enjoyed the hot tubs on the 4th floor every afternoon after a day of skiing. Like most guests we wore the Moose Hotel provided robes from our room on our trips upstairs to the hot tub. The tubs were clean and not too crowded. The water temperature was about 100 degrees so not too hot. Whether the sun was out or it was snowing we always enjoyed a fifteen minute soak. Towels and drinking water are available inside on the same floor. We used the gym on the fourth floor on two different days. The Startrac Stationary bike, and the rowing machine worked as expected. Treadmills, ellipticals and a recumbent stationary bike are also there. The gym has dumbbells (up to 25lbs), kettlebells (up to 20lbs), one bench, several mats, medicine balls, an ab wheels, several inflated balls, and stretch bands. The computer and printer in the business center on the second floor allowed me to easily print our boarding passes for the flight home. Front desk personnel were very helpful and provided a complimentary “ROAM” daily bus ticket when we decided to take a day off from skiing and travel to see the famous Banff upper springs/spa. The Moose is in a great location just one block from the IGA store, and within three blocks of most Banff restaurants and shops. Also, both the ROAM bus stop and Ski Bus Shuttles (for Banff, Lake Louise and Norquary) are just a few steps away in front of the next door Ptarmigan Hotel. We decided to leave the car in the garage rather than drive to Banff or Lake Louise. We only chose to get a rental car for the flexibility to drive back to the Calgary Airport on our schedule. We recommend the Moose for anyone staying in Banff. Read less

My overall impression of the hotel was positive. It is an attractive structure, well presented throughout. We were offered to upgrade to a suite for a reduced fee, which we did. The room was lovely, spacious, modern and the kitchen useful for anyone wanting to stock up on snacks. The bed was huge and really really comfortable with the best pillows. A few things surprised/ annoyed us. None of the light switches for the rooms seem to be in very obvious places. There is only one for the main hall and kitchen which is located at the front door. When you shut down for the night you have to walk to the front door to turn out the lights. The bedrooms are in need of softer more ambient bedside lights. The ones in place now are bright white light reading lamps which gives a similar light to a torch. They are also located to high on the wall. If you have snuggled down in bed to read you then have to sit up and really stretch to turn the light out. The coat hooks have been hung upside down and the toilet has been installed wonky. I suffered with jet lag and was awake at 3am every morning. Unfortunately the gym and pool don’t open until 630. I can understand that with the pool if you are waiting for staff but I would have thought it less of an issue for the gym to be open earlier / at all times? It certainly would have been helpful to me. These things probably sound ridiculous but the room fee isn’t cheap and I just found these details to be a little annoying. As I said, overall it is a nice location, good spot in Banff next to everything and beautiful hot tubs! Read less
