Casa Marina Key West, Curio Collection by Hilton

Key West, Florida Keys

Virgin rating

The hotel

Opened on New Year's Eve 1920, Casa Marina Resort is Key West’s original grand resort, and it's just been newly renovated again! Boasting a dramatic 'water walk' that leads to the resort's two largest swimming pools and the largest private beach in Key West, Casa Marina is a tranquil oasis close enough to the action of Duval Street. Offered on-site is a booking centre for world-class diving, fishing and boating, and it also has the largest fitness facility in Key West, allowing you to work off those holiday indulgences! Guest rooms here are contemporary in style with whitewashed walls, textured tile floors and dark tropical hardwoods — a great place to retire to at the end of a busy day seeing the sights. For dining the hotel’s Sun Sun restaurant and bar, an open-air wood pavilion overlooking the pools and beach, is great for those seeking a casual atmosphere and plenty of that Floridian sun!! And as if all this wasn't enough, you can take advantage of the facilities at the sister property, The Reach, just one block away.

Don't stay here. This hotel is pretty, and that's the only positive thing I can say about it. The management of this hotel is horrible and does not care one bit about the hotel or the guests. The maintenance team does whatever it wants to including operating saws and drills at 6am so they don't have to work in the heat. The room itself had numerous unrepaired or minimally repaired damages, bugs, and cigarette stubs on the patio that weren't cleaned up the whole week we were there. The walls of this place are also paper thin. On one side we got parents screaming at their adult kids (think 8 hours of Jerry Springer) followed by the next guest screaming at small kids. On the other side we got to hear loudly at 2pm (through the vents) to the guest having afternoon "adult time" on multiple occasions. While maybe not the hotels specific fault, it typifies the caliber of the other guests we experienced. This is not a place where people pay for service and luxury, this is a place where people use points for a free drunken vacation. So if it's free and you don't bring your kids, this might be worth it. Otherwise go somewhere else where your family, time and money is valued. Read less

I'm conflicted about this review. The property and the grounds are beautiful, and the renovated rooms are modern and pleasing to the eye. The management of the resort is another story! During check-in, we weren't told that the elevators were out of service and ended up carrying our suitcases up 2 flights of stairs (ps: we weren't offered bell service nor even told how to get to our room, so we wondered about dragging our stuff with us). When we finally arrived at our room, we were greeted by an empty body wash container and missing hand soap, along with a stench that got progressively worse over time. We should never have been given that room (#246). After day 2, we called the front desk and maintenance arrived a short time later. Maintenance could not identify the foul odor (it smelled like a dead animal) but concluded that the room was unfit and we needed to leave. We went into town for the morning and when we returned were surprised to find that nothing had changed and the front desk claimed to know nothing about the maintenance assessment. We had to initiate the room change ourselves and this time insisted upon bell service to help with our move. To our dismay, we were assigned a new room that was a downgrade to our original reservation! When the hotel manager finally contacted us, he provided us some resort credits but was arrogant and dismissive about the inconvenience, the downgrade and disruption to our stay. Overall, this is a lovely resort filled with rich history and nostalgia that is palpable from the moment your enter the lobby. The beach is very nice and the workers on the ground seem pleasant and eager to make you happy. Unfortunately, the resort is poorly managed and Hilton can do better. If you're willing to overlook the inexperience and ineptitude of the management team, you can have a nice stay at this resort. Our vacation time and dollars are too precious to us - so we won't be back. Read less

This hotel was closed down for six months due to significant renovations. Despite some of the lower reviews, the hotel has had, they have made significant improvements cosmetically. Which pissed me off. We looked outside at the beach that we were going to enjoy and there are signs. ‘ private event’ so now were looking for somewhere else to lounge! lol . Let’s go to the gym! So we walk over and the smell of mold knocks you down. This place is a complete disaster, 5 star hotel? No 2 at best. Read less
