Casa Marina Key West, Curio Collection by Hilton

Key West, Florida Keys

Virgin rating

The hotel

Opened on New Year's Eve 1920, Casa Marina Resort is Key West’s original grand resort, and it's just been newly renovated again! Boasting a dramatic 'water walk' that leads to the resort's two largest swimming pools and the largest private beach in Key West, Casa Marina is a tranquil oasis close enough to the action of Duval Street. Offered on-site is a booking centre for world-class diving, fishing and boating, and it also has the largest fitness facility in Key West, allowing you to work off those holiday indulgences! Guest rooms here are contemporary in style with whitewashed walls, textured tile floors and dark tropical hardwoods — a great place to retire to at the end of a busy day seeing the sights. For dining the hotel’s Sun Sun restaurant and bar, an open-air wood pavilion overlooking the pools and beach, is great for those seeking a casual atmosphere and plenty of that Floridian sun!! And as if all this wasn't enough, you can take advantage of the facilities at the sister property, The Reach, just one block away.

Beautiful property and great location. The reason I gave 2 stars is the staff. Actually it should be one star due to overall experience that we had. The front desk person Dayan was so so rude. I have never seen anyone behave like that at any of the hilton properties. I am a diamond member and I intended to pay for an upgrade. We usually get the best available room at all properties, esp for special occasions. They had availability but rudely said ‘we have to sell them’. I didn’t even want to interact or request anything more after that. The room we got had the dirtiest window to ruin the view. Upon requesting they were like we don’t think they’d be able to clean them during your stay. Another incidence, we were at the pool and asked the attendant to open an umbrella and he said ‘is the sun even out?’ Also, there was a wedding going on and was really loud till 11pm. They really need to work on their staff. I have been to over 100 hilton properties over the world and this was the rudest staff ever. Def causing a decline in our overall experience. Read less

Where to start... Booked a "Grand Terrace OceanView Room- King - checked into Room 280 - (basically a closet) , but ok. Stepped out onto our "grand terrace," which really fell short of what the pictures made it look like, onto a worn wooden deck covered with pigeon waste. Hilton and CasaMarina management, how could you even have the nerve to put a guest in this room? Deck was unusable and unsanitary, because you would have to track all that pigeon waste back into your room!!! Are we forreal here? The chairs and umbrella also covered in pigeon waste. Spoke w/front desk and they said "oh it wasn't cleaned ? No, clearly that's why I am here. They sent someone up to clean it, only to wake up next morning with the same situation. Pointless. We requested a room change with management. The agreed, but they could not put us in the same room category, as they didn't have one available, and we would also have to wait for the room to be ready. Ok. AT 4:45 pm, I received a text that it was ready. I agreed to view before accepting. Room #234 in the west wing "King Oceanview balcony." This room category is over $200 less than room booked. Ok, well at least we could sit outside. We started waking up w/ bug bites, a few more every morning. Hmm. Last morning, I checked the sheets, saw nothing and pulled back all the linens to find the MOST horrific stain (18" in diameter) on the mattress, that I had slept in for 3 nights. How is this happening in this hotel that is alleged to be one of the best on the island?? Back downstairs to management again; I showed the picture and he looked horrified. He said, we can change you room AGAIN. No thank you, we are leaving. He asked if I wanted him to have the room checked for bed bugs. Well sir, I think that maybe you would want to, as this is your resort. Also, the mattress??? How is this even in this room and not on the curb??? Deplorable conditions. Since, it was booked through a 3rd party and paid in full, he said he could not refund me anything but incidental room charges, which were very minimal, as we paid cash as we went. He refunded the daily resort fee too. You should have refunded me the whole thing after the condition of both of these rooms, never mind the difference in price of the rooms??? Property has great potential, but the hallways and elevators are just unkept and filthy, in addition to the condition of both of our rooms. Hilton, you need to step up here, very disappointed guest. While offering a private beach in the middle of Key West's most recommended snorkeling areas, the Casa Marina is also a perfect location to have the keys' most exciting sightseeing locations - like the Southernmost point in the continental United States and Duval Street - in walking distance. Our room was beautifully furnished with a colonial vibe, and - as a mom - I was grateful for the idea of separated kid- and adult-beaches. The only wishes I would have left are more working elevators and a swap of the kid- and the adult-beaches, as the former served also as the haven for the (at times incredibly fast) jet skiers, so that I was too worried for my kids to be run over to allow them to swim in the sea without me & my alert eye on their side. My wife and I had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Casa Marina in Key West. Before we finalized the hotel, I called Hilton corporate because we were nervous about the negative reviews that I had seen. We saw what looked like a wonderful hotel, but the reviews were not the greatest. Hilton put me in touch with a Key West based employee who addressed the past issues and eased my concerns. The hotel is full of history and the recent renovations have brought the hotel back to its original beauty, while at the same time upgrading rooms, outdoor spaces, etc. The common areas including the lobby, outside bar, pools and beach areas are those of a classic and historical luxury hotel. The staff provided a high level of service and went above and beyond throughout our stay. The staff the we interacted with were engaging, thoughtful and interested in providing guests with a great experience. My understanding is that there was a renovation period that resulted in some negative reviews and that the more recent reviews are more in keeping with the level of satisfaction that guests now receive. I believe that Casa Marina management has actively worked to improve the guest experience and that the hotel is worth visiting. Read less
