Plantation Resort on Crystal River

Horrible stay, trust me! I wish I would have read reviews. Rooms are trashy and old. We let the front desk know several times are shower had a heavy leak! No one came to fix. We tried to get some sort of compensation and the front desk denied it saying they had no record of it. I also believe that locals stay here and party all night long. There are better options down the road...please beware and don't let a few pictures fool you into staying here for the night. Read less

Let me start the is review off on a positive note. The outside property is beautiful. The pool area looks nice, there are outdoor activities such as volleyball, corn hole, etc. Day 1: The front desk receptionist was nice and apologized because the room was not ready on time and we would have to come back later. Return at 4:30 and room was still not ready but by 5:30 they were able to check us in. We arrived to dirty floors, unclean surfaces, small ants trailing everywhere, no towels, made up beds but one with dirty sheets. If I didn’t have so many things scheduled for the next few days I would have just walked out but I couldn’t do that to my family. I went up to front desk and expressed concern, they said it would be taken care of immediately. I also asked for clean sheets and towels for the evening so we could at least shower. I was told there were no clean towels to come back up in a bit and the sheets would be brought to our room shortly. After having dinner we returned to our room and still had no clean sheets or towels. I went back to front desk and they gave me pool towels as they still had no clean bath towels. At this point I was annoyed, so I went and bought my own Clorox cleaner and asked for a dust pan and broom to clean myself since cancelling really wasn’t an option at the moment. Day 2: 7am still no sheets, no one from maintenance ever came. I ask again for sheets and for our room to be cleaned while we go out on a charter and the front desk says yes mam we sure will. Day 2: 1pm- we return from scalloping and still room not cleaned, no towels no sheets and I’m pretty irritated because we all needed showers. There are several other couple upset as well due to condition of their room. The Locals that we spoke to also said they knew 100s of horror stories from guests. Day 2- 2:30pm We eventually get our sheets and towels, room was never cleaned but I did sweep and sanitize the room myself and I was too tired to argue or even bring it up. Day 2: 7pm we go to the pool to swim and guess what… no towels lol, tiki bar was low on soda syrup so drinks tasted like club soda, the horseshoe and cornhole area had missing pieces. Pool area was pretty decent and seemed to be clean. Day 3 I was adjusted to the style of living and we just dealt with it because for the most part the location was ideal for our scalloping adventure. We were told we would get a 10% refund for our troubles however when checking out the front desk agent told me that wouldn’t be happening because I went through a 3rd party and my purchase was capital one travels issue not the plantation resort. Overall: It’s not the worst place in the world but the rooms are in bad shape and the maintenance people are not doing their job. Good luck to future visitors. I rarely write reviews on anything, but this place deserves to be highlighted as one of the most under kept resorts. The outside is very misleading!!!! We arrived around 3 and were told room was not ready. We were told room would be ready at 4. At 4 they said come back at 5. At 5 they told us to come back at 6. And so we waited hour after hour with no room. The other couples in our party were all given rooms. Yet we still waited. The staff were completely uncaring given the “we’re sorry” with a monotone blank stare like how dare we expect anything different. On top of this the building is very old and in disrepair. Every time we checked on our room we had to wait all over again in a long crowded line. The room was sweltering because the AC couldn’t compete with the constant opening of the front door. We have been to this property in the past and loved the location. That’s why we returned. This trip we were disappointed in the cleanliness and maintenance of the property. Although there was a good presence of staff, the room, halls, grounds and pool area was very dirty and unkept. There was mold present on both our bathroom door and our curtains. Read less

The city of Crystal River is such a hidden gem of Florida. The city is very charming and has alot of outdoor activities. However, we will not return as guests of this resort which is a shame since its so close to everything. It is in desperate need of a deep clean and upgrade. First, the rooms were disgusting. The desk chair had stains and food on it. The door to the room looked like someone kicked it in. The bed sheets were not changed from the previous occupants. The pillows smelled like sweat, and when I pulled the sheets back to go to bed, the sheets had hair, dirt and debris on it, and smelled like feet. We ended up sleeping on top of the sheets. I informed the front desk and housekeeping changed the bedding the next day. Fortunately, housekeeping did clean the room and changed our towels everyday after that. The room key deactivated everyday so we went to the front desk every day to get a new one. When speaking with the front desk, some were helpful. However, there was one lady who's tone made it feel like I was inconveniencing her when I had questions. The only saving grace is the adventure center. We had such a great experience and everyone was so helpful and pleasant. If we had not booked a manatee tour with them, the experience at the resort would have been completely unpleasant. Read less
