The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota

Sarasota/Bradenton, Sarasota

Virgin rating

The hotel

The VIP vibe at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota comes from indulgences like its bay-side location, its palm-dappled pool, and its celeb-worthy dining venues. Overlooking Sarasota Bay, you can watch the water as you laze by the chic outdoor pool and whirlpool, and as you tuck into coastal cuisine, cocktails, and craft beers at Jack Dusty. Venture across the John Ringling Causeway to Lido Key, where you'll find the hotels beach club, in the form of a tiki bar, alongside seaside-styled Ridley’s Porch restaurant, right on the soft sands (you may even get to enjoy it from your private balcony, as some have marina views). The luminary luxuries continue back at the hotel with opulent spa treatments - in a newly renovated spa might we add - and access to the exclusive Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

Nice place. Pricey yes, but well worth it. The beach club is by far the best. Ethan hooked us up with chairs umbrella, ice waters and anything we needed. He was super friendly and attentive. Go get there it was an easy shuttle. The food and drinks were pricey, but overall very good food. Great place.

Because of hurricane Beryl our group of couple friends had to pivot with a few days notice from the Ritz in Grand Cayman to the Ritz in Sarasota. We had great expectations for Grand Cayman and truly expected something similar in Sarasota. What a disappointment! We get that it was a holiday weekend and half of Florida seems to have descended in Sarasota, but the hotel seemed completely unprepared. From the point of check in when the system was down to overloaded elevators that weren’t working for parts of our weeklong stay to too small pools overrun with people, this was not a great experience. Our room 933 (AVOID AVOID AVOID), had an AC system that wasn’t working, but managed to soak the surrounding carpet with condensation, as well as a completely lopsided mattress. I called to ask for a new mattress the first day (a big ask on a holiday weekend, but this is a Ritz) and was told it would be taken care of, but it never was. I will admit I didn’t make a second request since I could tell from early on the hotel staff was not prepared to give the level of service expected at this type of hotel. Housekeeping was sporadic at best, some days 2 towels and no washcloths, some days 3 and 1, some days 3 and 3. Turndown happened the first two days then never again. Bags not replaced for the ice bucket. As I mentioned previously, the pools were overcrowded, but the staff at the Beach club (and the shuttle drivers) were great! Shout out to Natasha at the Beach Club. She was awesome! Food at drinks were delivered in timely fashion. Now at the Ritz pool the opposite was true. Service was spotty and poor. You had to practically accost attendants to get a drink or food and then would be subject to long waits for both. My husband did speak to management on the last day and we received a small credit, but I can safely say, we will not stay at this hotel ever again (and we are in Sarasota a few times a year) and it definitely will give us pause to book at other Ritz properties in the future. The staff and service is a 10! The hotel is extremely clean. The facilities including hotel rooms and public spaces need a total gut renovation…. The pool umbrellas are broken….the carpets are threadbare….it is sad the owner’s do not want to gut renovation the property…Staff 5 star Facility 1 star.

As world travelers, my husband and I have a taste for luxury, and know the most reputable hotels with the best reputations. The Ritz Carlton is a well known brand that we have always loved and had the best experiences in all areas of the property..from the rooms to the service. This is our 10th trip at this location in Sarasota, and what a HUGE disappointment !!! From the moment we checked in when the rude front desk person said our reservation didn't show that we requested a room away from the elevator and challenged me because he said it wasn't in his notes, to the bad food and service in the one restaurant, to the old and tired quality of the room. This is definitely NOT the experience we expect and have always received from Ritz Carlton properties. We realized it was July 4th weekend, but having a DJ blasting music from both levels and a tiny pool overcrowded with people, to having to wait at leasts 30 minutes for a server to acknowledge that we were even seated, made for a terrible birthday trip for my husband. It was a 10 hour car ride because of a flat tire, so by the time we arrived, we expected a lovely and relaxing experience. We got just the opposite and said to each other that we will never return to this property. I can't believe that this is the way RC wants to present itself, but we left knowing that this will be our last time there. Come on Ritz Carlton, someone needs to take notice and make the changes you so desperately need here. Read less
