The hotel

Take a dip in the zero-entry pool, complete with stunning views over the beach and private cabanas you can rent for the day. You won’t want to miss the beach’s white sands, and what could be better than sitting, cocktail in hand, with your feet in the soft powder. Taste some local seafood in the restaurant, or you could have a night in with room service. But don’t just spend your days on-land, have a go at some water sports and have fun in the sun (and sea).

Where is it

On the beachfront, a short stroll to shopping, dining, and nightlife of Clearwater Promenade, and half a mile from Pier 60. Distance from Tampa International Airport: 21.5 miles.

230 rooms and suites. All with Gulf of Mexico views, private balcony, floor-to-ceiling windows, air-conditioning, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, coffee maker, safe and hairdryer. 

Spacious Gulf Front Rooms (previously named Premium Gulf Front) are 360 sq ft with large balconies that boast views of the Gulf, with either 1 king-size bed or 2 queen-size beds, plus sofa-bed, sleeping maximum 4 people.

One Bedroom Gulf Front King Suites offer views of the beachfront and the Gulf of Mexico, and feature a separate living room with queen-size sofa bed, dining table for four, kitchenette, bathroom with separate shower and tub, and master bedroom with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 people. 
  • Free night: Stay between 01Jan - 15Feb '24 or 11Aug '24 - 15 Dec'24 and receive your 5th night free. Any applicable offers have been calculated into the prices shown. Offers may not be combinable. 
  • Booking Bonus: For stays completed between 11 Aug '24 to 15 Dec '24 Virgin Holidays customers have free valet parking for stays of 5 nights or more. Please note that at all other times the parking charge is $40 plus tax per day and is payable locally (subject to change). 

Clearwater's 'Jolley Trolley' goes around all of the hotels in Clearwater, show your hotel room key and ride for free. Self-parking $25 plus tax per day, and Valet parking $40 plus tax per day (payable locally, subject to change).

Please note: There is currently a new hotel being built across the street from Opal Sands. The project is anticipated to be finished towards the end of 2024, and work will take place between the hours of 7.00am-4.00pm Monday to Friday. There may be some minor disruption, but no significant noise should be heard. All of the Premium King and Queen rooms face the Gulf of Mexico and do not look over the construction site.

Please note: An additional rollaway bed is charged at $25 per night plus tax, payable locally.

We had such an enjoyable time here at the Opal Sands on Clearwater Beach. Yes, the accommodations were expensive, but if you're looking to treat yourself for a special occasion, then spurge. We ended up with a corner suite on the tenth floor (Room 1019) that had views from three sides (overlooking the Pool and Gulf, and the Beach highway. We were able to spot dolphins easily from our room. Service was great. Each floor has it's own snackbar, and the hotel brings up fresh baked cookies every day. Rather than an ice machine, the floor has its own small freezer that the hotel keeps stocked with small bags of ice, just enough for your ice bucket. The pool was heavenly. Noye the deepest it gets is 4' and both ends of the pool are walk in at a casual, convenient slope. They have a nice large hot tub that could easily handle 12 people. Stairs lead down to the beach. Valet was expensive at $40 a night, but their service was fast and personal. We did eat at the hotel's restaurant for breakfast every morning. If you love grits, they have great grits. If you love avocado toast, my wife had it every morning and says that next to what she had in Amsterdam, these were the best. Read less
