This was our second stay at this resort. It had been remodelled and painted since our previous stay 2 years ago. We chose it again due to location (out of the noise and busyness of the pier area) and being right on the beach. There was a huge conference going on the days we stayed and the lobby and restaurants were very noisy. You couldn’t even carry on a conversation let alone eat in the restaurant, we had to order to go one night it was so loud. The room upgrades were nicely done and fresh. We did find the beds to be very firm though. It was nice having a mini fridge in the room to store drinks and snacks for the kids. The bathroom is small and a very tight space with the door open there is not much room to move. There is no clothesline or hooks in the shower for hanging wet swimwear! Parking is also no longer free so make sure you look at what you are getting when you book here. Read less

I have formerly worked in the hotel industry, from Night Auditor all the way up to Assistant General Manager. I've worked at boutique hotels and 500-room resorts. So it blows my mind that the Sheraton Sand Key is apparently completely incapable of accommodating a special request for a king bed on a reservation booked 6+ months in advance. Upon checking in to our room, we found a dirty cleaning rag on the countertop in front of the TV and a broken lamp next to the bed. Not a great way to start your stay. But we dealt with it in hopes that we'd be moving to a new room the next day, as we've done on previous stays. The next day, when we asked a front desk staff member to be moved to a room with a king bed or at least a better view, we were told none was available and none would be available. When we asked to be put on a waiting list for a room should one become available, we were treated as an inconvenience. The staff member seemed annoyed that we didn't just go away. At all the hotels I have ever worked or stayed at - except this one - special requests were honored on a "first come, first served" basis. This one just doesn't even try, and it's so very frustrating. I'll never understand why it seems to be impossible to request a king bed for an August reservation that was booked in January. The new look of the rooms is nice. One of the clothes hanging hooks on the wall is poorly placed right above the thermostat. You really just can't use that one for hanging up anything, much less a wet swimsuit, because then it'll mess up the thermostat and your room won't be the temperature you want. I miss the retractable clothesline in the shower. That was the most convenient place to hang wet clothes. The shower is the best part of the newly redesigned rooms. The waterfall showerhead is (I believe) about 7 feet high, so as a tall person that was a welcome change. The addition of a handheld shower head was also amazing. The shower is the best part of the redesign, minus the loss of the clothesline for hanging your wet swimsuit. Love everything about it. At checkout, when turning in our keys, we met with the same front desk staff member who treated us as an inconvenience when we asked to be put on a waiting list for a room with a king bed. She was again rather unfriendly. We told her we were checking out, she asked what room, where we'd like the receipt sent, and that was that. No "How did you enjoy your stay," no "Was everything alright," not even a "We hope to see you again soon" or "have a nice day." We'll be back next year and are sincerely hopeful that the hotel will change its policy and begin honoring special requests, and also hopeful that front desk staff are less annoyed to have to interact with guests. Guy was awesome and went out of his way to accommodate us and always greeted us with a smile. We truly appreciated him making our stay here pleasant and we could not praise him enough and we look forward to seeing him next year at the conference!
