National Hotel

Miami Beach, Miami

The hotel

A cool cocktail stirring up the best bits of Miami, National Hotel Miami Beach throws in a dash of Art Deco (thanks to its Collins Avenue address); a shot of Miami’s swanky beach scene (thanks to its sand-skirting spot); and a splash of chic poolside glamour (thanks to its headline-grabbing pool). The longest infinity edge pool in Miami Beach, it’s flanked by graceful palms, gorgeous bougainvillea, and serene spots for poolside libations from Aqua Club Bar & Grill. As evening draws in, you can switch to the fresh Med flavours of Tamara Bistro, the tapas and live sounds of Blues Bar, or the buzzing local hotspots along popular Lincoln Road, one block away, and Ocean Drive, two blocks away.

Before booking our hotel, I used a 3rd party company. Their descriptions of the room were not worded the same as the hotel's room descriptions. Just to be safe I called the hotel while I was online booking the hotel. The employee who stayed on the phone with me while I booked our rooms ensured me that yes, this is the room you're looking for (we needed 2 beds per room to accommodate our party). I once again called ahead of our visit to double check that there were 2 beds per room and the hotel ensured me, yes there was. We also requested an early check in when we called to confirm about the beds and they said it was noted in the computer and shouldn't be an issue since it was a slow week. I also called 4 x's and left a message to book a bottle of champagne sent to the room and nobody ever called me back. Fast forward, we check in with Charina and she handed me the keys at 4:10 pm (no early check in like we requested) and sure enough we open the door to both rooms and there is ONE BED. So I went downstairs to ask for a Manager (Luis). Luis listened to my story and just nodded his head and when I was finished talking he told me he can give me the room with 2 beds for $80 per room per night. I thought that good customer service means giving the customer the benefit of the doubt and maybe an apology that 2 employees that are under my supervision made a mistake.... But no, Luis wanted to just charge us more money for a tiny little room with a run down bathroom with smelly towels. He called or pretended to call the employee that I described and told me that yes, the employee remembers you calling but he never told you that there were 2 beds in a room. I wish i recorded the conversation because you really can't trust people's word or that this company would provide honest and good customer service. I ended up paying $40 per room per night, and was hit with an additional $470.00 worth of taxes and "resort fees" even though we still had to pay $20.00 for an umbrella and $20.00 per towel each day. Im not too sure what their resort fee covers since they don't treat guests like they are at a resort. Finally, I went downstairs to pay the additional scam fees at 9:00 am so we can check out and leave. My friends called me at 9:40 telling me that someone was banging on our doors kicking us out of our room. Check out is at 11:00. Our uber was ordered at 9:45 and we had another hour if we wanted in the room but we were treated like garbage. If you're looking to stay in a run down hotel who has to pay for every little thing you do, plus pay a fee for who knows what for... then this is your hotel!! Otherwise, most of the neighboring hotels on collins are pretty decent and we have never been treated this way before elsewhere! Read less
