The one glaring absolutely horrid experience was at Primo restaurant. Although the food was good, the service was slow and rude. We visibly saw the waiter mocking us as he walked away. When asking the GM to do something about it she apologized vaguely and sent over donuts. The slow rude service continued and was absolutely unacceptable. - both the server's absolute lack of decorum or service of any kind as well as the incompletely inept management staff. Read less

This a very beautiful property with updated rooms as well as access to tue connected property The Riz Carlton! The breakfast was excellent and the hot breakfast 9 dollar up charge was well worth it. Staff are very cordial and professional. 18-22 % gratuity is automatic for pool, restaurant, and spa bills. Sometimes, when gratuity is automatic at resorts, your service can be compromised! The restaurant and spa staff did not disappoint. The hotel is transparent about their nightly resort fee, so read what it covers and take advantage of the offerings! My only gripe was with the fitness classes: although this is part of the resort fee (limited to one class per day), it was awkward when you’d sign in and there was a gratuity line immediately asking you to tip! This bothered me for several reasons: It was asked prior to the class starting and there was definitely a feeling of “Guilt Tipping” that was imposed upon me, which made the experience feel more anxiety ridden and not relaxing. I’m a fitness instructor at a luxury gym and I have never been tipped: my gym pays my wage. Fitness professionals are not service industry workers so this just seems very foreign to me, almost slightly unethical. My advice to Marriot or whoever else is in charge of this policy: eliminate it or change the structure so if people do want to tip their instructor, it should be done at the end of service and more discreetly. Five days ago, I made a reservation for my birthday. Unfortunately, I fell ill shortly after booking and felt incredibly weak. The day before and on the day of the reservation, I contacted the hotel to cancel due to testing positive for COVID. To my dismay, the hotel refused my cancellation request, citing their policy, and insisted on charging me. I requested to speak with a manager, but the person at the front desk, a young lady named Maggy, declined, claiming the manager was unavailable. JW Marriott was only concerned about getting their money and showed no empathy for my situation on my special day. I spent my birthday at home, feeling sad, still unwell, and deeply disappointed. Thank you, JW Marriott. Read less

We just completed a 5-night stay and loved every minute of it. This was my 3rd stay at JWM Grande Lakes, but only my first bringing my family (first two stays were for work conferences). We had booked and planned to stay in one room with 2 queen beds for me, my wife, and two kids. At check-in due to low occupancy we were offered a second, connecting king room for a price that seemed like a very good value to us. We took it, and were glad we did. The rooms were great, and the kids loved the (relatively new) water slides. This is not a simple pool slide like you'll find at some other hotels in the area. We're talking 3 large tubes from the top of a 5-story tower, similar to what you'd find at a true waterpark. The slides are well placed in a corner of the pool area so as to be close enough for lounging parents to keep an eye on the kids while not affecting the rather serene parts of the very large, very well done pool area. To us, these amenities justify the 'resort fee' you'll pay here, much more so than other hotels that are also charging a similar resort fee but lack the valuable amenities you find here. Being Platinum Elite I was entitled to free continental breakfast. The continental breakfast is served in Citron and costs $29 for guests that do not have Platinum Elite (or Titanium) benefits. It includes a very wide selection of delicious pastries, breads and bagels, excellent and diverse fresh fruits, yogurts, cereal, avocado toast, oatmeal, a wide assortment of charcuterie and cheese, fresh juices, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. $29 felt like a pretty fair price for this elaborate continental breakfast, at least as far as high end hotel pricing goes, and this hotel played no games in providing it (inclusive of 18% service charge!) complimentary to Platinum Elite (or Titanium) members. While more Marriott hotels seem to be playing games with the breakfast benefit for elite members, that wasn't happening here at Grande Lakes. In fact, elite members are even free to pay just the $9 difference to upgrade to the full hot buffet, which we did on several occasions. That too was well worth it, and includes made to order omelets, waffles, and pancakes with various toppings, as well as sausage, bacon, potatoes, etc. The service was also tremendous at Citron. Each of the servers we had on all 5 days were kind, attentive, and professional. Similarly at the check-in desk, the pool side restaurant, and Whisper Creek Farm Kitchen in the lobby area. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We visited Disney parks for part of 4 of our 5 days at the hotel. The hotel offers a shuttle, but it is infrequent and the times didn't work for us. Driving was fine, as the parks are around 20 minutes away. Frankly, after a tiring day at a Disney park we actually appreciated getting a little ways off Disney property to a more relaxing hotel/resort, and not needing to both with a shuttle. As you probably already know if you're reading this review, this resort is not 'cheap' but in our experience is a good value that meets my expectations for a JWM. We did not have any complaints and enjoyed our stay, and we look forward to returning next month for a 3 day stay on the way to our cruise out of Port Canaveral for Thanksgiving. Read less
