We visited the JW Marriott with our 10 year son. The check-in process went smoothly and we were instantly provided an upgrade and room credit because of the credit card we used to pay for our stay. The pool side view allow you to the entire resort, golf course and parks in the distance. We even watch a few fireworks display from our balconies. The pool and lazy river were definitely the highlight of the resort. The construction was annoying but after day one we found a perfect location by the waterfall and the live music to drown out the noise. Pros: We fully expected to Uber to Universal to and from the hotel. Unbeknownst to us the hotel provided daily shuttles rides to and from the resort. That was a pleasant surprise. There appears to be a partnership with the Ritz Carlton which is attached to the hotel. As a result guest of the JW Marriott have access to their pool, spa, and gym. You can also visit the Ritz Carlton onsite restaurants and charge it to your room with no issues. Issues: The safe wasn’t working properly so we had to carry our valuables with us to the pool and to parks and dinner. After having gone to the pool, we all took showers and needed more towels. We called the front desk and said they would send someone up. When we returned from dinner the new towels were laid in the sink but the old wet towels were still in the floor. That may not seem like a big deal to some but if a place touts Itself as a luxury resort than those towels should have been removed. Lastly, most restaurants didn’t open until after 5 due to staffing issues . Fortunately, the poolside restaurant was open during the afternoon. Highlights: A member of the management team, Shane did a fantastic job assuaging our concerns that we had in the beginning of our stay. He listened, understood, and came up with a variety of acceptable solutions to make our stay as pleasant as possible Thank you Shane. You would be remiss if you don’t order a Bloody Mary from Heidy and the brunch location on the ground level. Absolutely superb. Read less

I recently stayed here with my husband for his company's awards conference. The property itself is beautiful. However, our bathroom in our room had an odor coming from it. We told the desk and they sent somone right up. When we returned, the odor was gone. When again left our room and when we returned, the odor was back. We asked the housekeeper in the hall about it, I asked if she could put bleach in the drains and she said she would clean with a scented cleaner. The issue was never resolved. On a second note, the food served at the conference was not the quality you would think for a Marriott. Many people were complaining about the quality and went to other venues for food. One main note was the awards dinner itself. I have certain dietary needs. I ordered steak. A gentleman came around the table and asked how we wanted it cooked. I said well done, no pink. When the steak came, it was medium, all pink. We told the server and he said he would fix it. After 25 minutes later and everyone else at the table starting their dessert, I finally received my main meal. My husband was very upset as was I. Any cook should know how to fix a steak. They didn't. Needless to say, I didn't eat it as it was the end of the function and everyone was leaving. I complained to who I believed was a manager and she said I could take a meal back to my room. Really. This hotel's concern for people with special dietary needs was a zero. I will say the restaurant called The Kitchen at this facility was excellent. The portions large and the service excellent. Read less

Very nice and in excellent shape. Also not overcrowded as many resorts especially within the parks are. Excellent gym shared with Ritz hotel. Also a quiet location with a golf course nearby. However they sell you the lazy river but the river doesn’t work due to construction nearby. Bit misleading!

My family stayed for a week at the JW Grande Lakes over Memorial Day. We spent several days at theme parks and looked forward to relaxing by the pool after long hot days at the parks. We chose the JW because of the big beautiful pool and lazy river. Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the experience. My biggest complaint is that the hotel staff was not honest about the status of the massive construction underway at the property. Once before booking and again before our arrival, I called to ask about the status of the construction, which I had read about in reviews. Both times I was assured that it was a non-issue, that everything was open and the only remaining construction was a small area off to the side of the pool deck. This description was misleading at best. While the pool is technically open, there are multiple areas of heavy construction around and in the middle of the pool deck. The pool bar/restaurant was surrounded by chain link fencing, construction noise, and stench. Walkways are blocked. I inquired at the front desk about the situation, wondering if this was some sort of temporary thing in light of what I was told prior to arriving. Incredibly, they told me they had no idea what I was talking about, and insisted that the construction was limited to a small area off to the side. This seems to be what they are trained to say. That said, we did enjoy our stay overall. The rooms were lovely and had ample space. They were clean and felt fairly new. The beds were very comfortable and have actual fitted sheets. The air conditioning worked well. The bartenders and waitstaff were awesome. The food at the pool bar/restaurant and Citron breakfast was delicious. Other than the construction, the property is beautiful. And while while the pool situation was far from ideal, we enjoyed the Ritz pool one afternoon. When we did brave the JW pool area, the kids enjoyed the lazy river. I realize that construction is sometimes necessary, that delays happen, and that it comes with inconveniences. But the hotel should be up front about the situation on its website or at least be honest about the extent of the disruptions when guests inquire. We might be open to retuning once we are able to confirm that the construction is actually done (but will know not to rely on the hotel for that confirmation). For now, if you’re looking at the JW for a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy lounging by the pool, you may want to reconsider. Read less

*Long Post* Summary: save your money and stay elsewhere. Jamaica is probably cheaper. The Bahamas is cheaper. I saw the trip advisor reviews about some construction, but assumed it was completed because there was no mention of construction on the website or app. I received a text the morning of my arrival, after I had arrived at the airport stating that some of pool area is not available and alternatives were available. This was not mentioned at booking. Not only is a lot of the pool area being dug up, but there are no lights and the pool closes at dusk. The lazy river is extra lazy (meaning there is absolutely zero current). This was not mentioned at booking or check-in. Outside is insanely dark and security will not allow anyone in those areas after dark. Food: While waiting on our room we noticed a few food delivery drivers and guests bringing in cases of water, soda and beer. Kind of odd (so I thought) but everybody vacations differently. (See food delivery) Breakfast: buffet for about $30-35/pp typical breakfast food or al a carte. Piecemealing breakfast may run you about the same amount. Breakfast is standard breakfast items. Starbucks: drinks and pre made sandwiches Bodega: drinks, premade sandwiches/oatmeal. When breakfast hours are over you may have to hunt for food or snacks (which is why food delivery is so popular). Montage: a store with clothing and a few chips, nuts and ice cream and sundries. It closes at 10pm. No vending machines anywhere for soda, chips, coffee, anything. Except for CVS vending machines and these only contain toiletries and Covid tests. Lunch: poolside restaurant. It has a very limited variety. The drinks are good though. Last call is about 5-5:30 because pool closes at dusk. Dinner: Primo: Italian/limited options Kitchen: farm fresh/limited options EVR bar: seafood/limited options *enter food delivery* Most non-conference guests either leave the property to grab dinner or the lobby/front entrance is slammed with guests waiting for delivery or delivery drivers waiting for guests. Regularly saw guests sitting in the lobby, outside or wherever they can find seating eating delivered meals. Outside food is not allowed in restaurants/bars, but there are very few places to eat on the property after dark. There is nowhere to get a late night/evening cup of coffee when Starbucks closes, except in your room. Check in: as Bonvoy members you can adjust check-in time on the app. That means absolutely nothing. I knew we had an early flight and check out is typically at 11, so we requested a noon check-in. We arrived at 10:30. Room wasn’t ready to 3:35. The bellman stored bags from arrival until room was ready. This is always a huge benefit (except our luggage should've been taken to our rooms or at least offered). Because JW is having pool area renovations, I was advised that I could use the pools at the Ritz. There are two: spa and main. As a ventured to the spa, I was conveniently reminded that spa pool is only available for guests receiving spa services. (There was NO ONE present).and "The Ritz Carlton Pool and The Ritz Carlton Spa Pool are open for your enjoyment" according to the Marriot website. (clearly false advertising). Hotel has changed since I was last here. It appears to cater to/prefer corporate guests for conference room use (There were four conferences during my stay and a 5th was beginning when we were leaving) rather than individual guests. Pros: the staff: wait staff/hostess in the Citron, pool wait staff and bartenders. These people have all been phenomenal! Cons: the construction that is not on the website/ or app or failing to notify of prior to date of arrival. WORST vacation experience ever, I did not expect this from a Marriot! Read less
